Little United's reserve goalkeeper could do about Whitehead's equaliser as it was glanced into the side netting. No other attempts of note on target but decent distribution.
Relatively untested but shades of Rio Ferdinand in another classy performance at the back. Reads the game superbly and always looks to play the ball out of defence.
Comfortable in defence and constantly made runs up the left flank in the first half when United were in attacking mode.
Enjoyed his battle with Jones but caught under the ball for Whitehead's equaliser. A rare slip-up from the United captain.
Evergreen performance from the veteran Welshman as he drifted off the left flank and into space in central positions. Clever intricate passing and seems to combine well with Berbatov.
Shot at every opportunity and went close with an early effort from long range that fizzed just wide. Tidy passing but lack of mobility slowed the pace of United's attacking play.
Returned from injury and picked up where he left off in 2010 with a beauty for United's second, curled into the corner with his weaker left foot. The Portuguese winger always looked capable of making something happen with his direct running and array of tricks.
A typically solid performance from the central midfielder as he made himself available for the ball and played at high intensity. Played with excellent defensive discipline, particularly in the second half as United closed the game out.
A brilliant flicked finish provided the moment of class needed to break the deadlock. Like any good goalscorer, was always lively in the penalty area and passed to Nani for United's second goal.
Not at his best but the Bulgarian was still a focal point for the hosts' attacking moves. Held the ball up well and played intelligent passes as United probed in the final third.
Beaten by two wonderful finishes but reliable when called upon. Seemed to take a little too long on his kicking when the scores were level.
Launched into tackles and forced Giggs inside with his aggressive defending. Made a couple of surging runs but final delivery was lacking.
Won his fair share of headers but could not match Hernandez's sharpness as the Mexican turned in the opener.
Tough task against the skill and trickery of Nani, perhaps allowed the winger to fire off his shot for the winner too easily. Solid enough when the score was goalless but awkward in possession of the ball.
Impressive performance back at the club where he started his career. The big central defender stuck tight to Berbatov and won some vital challenges when his judgement was tested.
Combative in the holding role for the visitors and one of their best players as he hassled, harried and won headers. Particularly impressive in the first half.
Excellent glancing header five minutes after the break to equalise and always a calm presence in the Stoke midfield.
Looked to run at Rafael when he could but got little change out of the Brazilian full-back. Had a couple of opportunities to cross from dangerous positions but fluffed his lines.
Only had a couple of chances to launch his famous long throws and despite working hard found it difficult to influence the game. Replaced by Walters in the 69th minute.
The Turkish forward was in the wars in the first half but kept plugging away and always looked Stoke's most dangerous player in attack. Picked out Whitehead for the equaliser with a perfect cross from the left.
Often isolated as the lone frontman but performed his role as a target by holding up the ball and winning headers, but with no support from midfield. Never looked a goal threat and subsequently replaced by Fuller 15 minutes from time.
- 29 T. Sørensen
- 3 D. Higginbotham
- 14 D. Pugh
- 6 G. Whelan
Replaced Etherington in the 68th minute but could not get the ball in deep enough positions to deliver dangerous crosses.
Looked reasonably sharp after coming on for the final 15 minutes but had no sight at goal.
Replaced Delap in the 69th minute but fared no better on the Stoke right.
