D. Ba 64'
Finally the whistle is blown and Newcastle fans can breath a sigh of relief as they hold out for the draw. Manchester United were desperately unlucky to concede the penalty in the second half and to have a goal disallowed in the dying seconds. What a game of football.
90' + 4'
Fabio Da Silva
90' + 4'
GOOOOAAAALLLLL!! No it's been disallowed! Hernandez sweeps home from a yard after good work from Giggs but he is flagged offside and replays suggest they may have been unfortunate.
90' + 1'
Vidic thinks he should have a penalty and it isn't a bad shout to be honest. Steven Taylor makes no attempt to play the ball and leans into Vidic as the United skipper tries to get his head on the ball. Newcastle survive once more.
90' + 1'
Four minutes of added on time to be played.
United go close again as Young's floated cross is met by Macheda whose free header goes wide. Should have hit the target really. How many more chances can they create?
What a save that is, from Danny Simpson. Hernaandez thinks he's scored the winner as he gets up high and heads towards goal. The ball beats Krul but Simpson comes across the clear off the line. Newcastle living a charmed life here.
Man Utd hit the post this time. Nani crosses deep from the right and Young chests the ball down before powering his shot towards goal but it strikes the outside of the post and bounces away. The home team are all over Newcastle here.
Another Man Utd chance and another excellent save from Krul. A corner is cleared by Ameobi straight to Evra on the edge of the area. The Frenchman drives the ball with the outside of his boot only for Krul to fling himself to his right and tip round the post.
What a save that is from Krul. A cross comes in and Vidic gets a powerful head to the ball but the Dutchman stays big and manages to shoulder the ball over the bar. He has been super for Newcastle today.
Hatem Ben Arfa
Yellow/Red Jonas Gutierrez
Newcastle have got it all to do now as Gutierrez makes a really poor challenge and gets himself sent off. He had already been booked but there is an argument it would have been a straight red. He lunged into Nani and the referee had no option but to send him off.
That is an absolutely brilliant tackle from Steven Taylor. Nani was in behind the defence and committed Krul before squaring for Young to finish from five yards but Taylor gets back to get in front of the winger to stop the goal. Excellent work.
Rooney is cutting an increasingly frustrated figure in the middle of the pitch. He gives a needless foul away to Newcastle and doesn't look amused at all.
Newcastle look like they will have an awful lot of defending to do in the final quarter of the game. They are still working incredibly hard though it must be said.
Ferguson leaves his technical area and he is absolutely fuming about what is happening on the pitch here. Meanwhile Rooney links up well with Nani to create a shooting opportunity on the edge of the area but the Englishman hits it over.
Yellow Card Danny Guthrie
United have gone from being comfortable ahead to having to chase a winner. Newcastle have breathed new life into their challenge today as well as we look set for a blockbuster end to the game.
Yellow Card Jonas Gutierrez
Assist Hatem Ben Arfa
Penalty Goal Demba Ba
GOOOAAALLLL!!!! Ba slots the ball home cool as you like but the decision to give a penalty is absolutely ridiculous. Ferdinand gets across to excellently tackle Ben Arfa and the referee points for what looks like a corner but after discussions with the assistant he points to the spot. Ferdinand got all of the ball and can feel very aggrieved.
Penalty to Newcastle!
Super save from De Gea this time. Coloccini gets the ball in the middle of the area after a corner and his volley is hit with power into the ground but the young Spaniard shows his reactions by tipping over.
United are absolutely swarming all over Newcastle here as Young works well down the left hand side before trying to thread a ball to Hernandez to finish from a yard but Krul gets across to block the ball very well.
It should be 2-0. Evra does brilliantly on the left hand side and manages to find Young free just inside the area but his shot is inches wide. He decided to go for power rather than placement and will be disappointed not to have scored.
Yellow Card Fabio Da Silva
Another half chance for United as a corner is flicked on towards the head of Rooney who flashes his header over the bar from eight yards. Newcastle need to stem the flow a bit.
Yellow Card Yohan Cabaye
Goal Javier Hernández
GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! You're aren't going to see many more fortunate goals than that this weekend. Rooney's left foot volley is blocked by Steven Taylor but his clearance bounces of Hernandez and rolls into the net from six yards. Difficult task for Newcastle now!
Newcastle gets the second half back underway. No changes to report.
45' + 2'
The referee calls a halt to a very even half of football as Newcastle look very much like they belong in the upper echelons of the Premier League, while United continue to be goal shy.
Into the final minute of normal time here then as the game looks as if it will be level at the break.
Obertan does well on the right hand side and plays a ball into the area that would have gone straight to Ba had Vidic not intervened. His clearance went straight to Cabaye whose volley is saved by De Gea.
Super run from Fabio, who takes the ball on the halfway line and drives towards the area before trying to play in Hernandez and getting too much on it. Probably should have shot really.
Newcastle switch off at a corner and Nani drives into the area before unleashing a fearsome drive that goes nowhere near the goal. Poor shot from the Portuguese winger.
Newcastle's high pressure tactic seems to be working thus far, they are rushing the home team here but whether they can chase for 90 minutes remains to be seen.
Super save from Krul. Fabio's cross finds Giggs free in the area and the Welshman flicks a leg at the ball which was headed for the bottom corner before Krul gets a big hand to the ball to deny him. The game has come back to life.
What do I know? Nani plays a great ball through the middle for Hernandez who blazes the ball over from ten yards. The Mexican really should have hit the target there.
Newcastle just shading it out there right now as they work ever so hard to win the ball and then keep hold of it. United, after their bright start, have created very little.
Yellow Card Hatem Ben Arfa
He may be in the twilight of his career but Giggs can certainly still play. The midfielder runs from deep, taking on three Newcastle players before crossing. A magnificent run reminiscent of the famous goal against Arsenal in FA cup semi-final in 1999 - without the goal that is.
Little in the way of chances in the past ten minutes or so. Newcastle have come to the game full of energy and are giving this a real go. Both teams have success taking on the full backs.
The pace of the game slows down a bit as both teams cancel each other out. A lot of probing taking place but little in the way of end product.
The Newcastle fans are making one hell of a racket in Manchester as they tease the home support about being behind their rivals City in the league.
Newcastle starting to have the better of proceedings at Old Trafford at the moment as they have some joy attacking Fabio at right back.
That's a very decent chance for Newcastle. Ben Arfa plays a wonderful through ball over the top and Ba volleys first time but De Gea manages to get across and save the ball. If the striker got a better connection on the ball it could well have been 1-0.
Newcastle just getting themselves into the game now as they look to try and pen Man Utd back in their own half. Hernandez is looking particularly sharp for the home team though.
It's a really open game here as Obertan has a shot blocked on the edge of the are and Man Utd quickly break getting to ball to Hernandez who skipped past Taylor before shooting at Krul who holds onto the ball.
Bright start from the home side as they look to play with some pace that, at the moment, Newcastle can't do anything to stop. They will want to get on the ball and get a foothold in the game.
Super early run from Nani as he bamboozles Taylor down the right before trying to pull it back but Coloccini gets across to block. Good start from the home side.
The game gets underway with the away fans in fine voice.
Newcastle are into the second game of their nightmare run of games against the Premier League's best teams which could prove whether they are genuine contenders for Champions League qualification or not. Despite losing last week to Manchester City the club had enough chances to get something out of the game and will have no fears about playing at the Theatre of Dreams.
Manchester United come into the game off the back of a disappointing midweek draw with Benfica and news that industrious midfielder Anderson will be missing until February with a knee injury. They are boosted by the return of Wayne Rooney while Phil Jones has been left out of the 18-man matchday squad.
Newcastle line up: Krul, Simpson, Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, Obertan, Cabaye, Guthrie, Gutierrez, Ben Arfa, Ba. Subs: Elliot, Santon, Lovenkrands, Perch, Gosling, Shola Ameobi, Sammy Ameobi.
Man Utd line up: De Gea, Fabio Da Silva, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Giggs, Young, Rooney, Hernandez. Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, Smalling, Park, Valencia, Macheda
