  • That's it from me - @HushKerai - for today. I hope you've enjoyed the action, as ever stick with Goal for all the reaction and analysis. Until next time, it's goodbye and good night from me.
  • Next up for Manchester United is a mouthwatering game against Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League. While Jose Mourinho's men gear up to face Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich in the European Super Cup.
  • No real hint as to where the Premier League title is heading after tonight's stalemate. David Moyes' was bold in picking Wayne Rooney but that's where the brave decisions ended for both sides. Neither manager was prepared to risk a draw in order to go for the win, as both adopted cautious approaches.
  • Liverpool and Tottenham are the only two teams with a hundred per cent records but it's Chelsea who sit on top of the Premier League, having played a game more than their rivals.
  • FULL-TIME: Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea
  • 90' + 4'
The corner is swung into the box but Chelsea manage to get the ball out of the danger zone at the second time of asking.
  • 90' + 3'
    Substitution Eden Hazard César Azpilicueta
  • 90' + 3'
CHANCE! Manchester have one last surge forward as Wayne Rooney comes away with the ball in midfield. He turns one way than the other before laying the ball out to Ashley Young on the right flank. The winger's cross is cut out at the front post. Corner to United...
  • 90' + 1'
If things stay as they are it's Chelsea who will move to the top of the table having played a game more than everyone else, apart from Aston Villa.
  • 89'
Chelsea look happy with a point as they casually knock the ball about in deep areas. There will be three minutes of added time.
  • 87'
Substitution Andre Schürrle John Obi Mikel
  • 87'
SCRAMBLE! Phil Jones crosses into the box, Cahill gets his head to hit but it only falls as far as Van Persie. His volley hits Mikel's arm at point-blank range before Patrice Evra flings his volley well wide of the far post. Heart in mouths on the Blues bench.
  • 85'
Fernando Torres and Oscar try to combine in attack for the Blues but the pair are heavily outnumbered by Manchester United defenders. The tempo has seeped out of this affair following Evra's injury.
  • 83'
There will be a lengthy delay in the proceeding as Patrice Evra lays on the deck and recieves treatement from the United doctor. A chance for the players to catch their breath and prepare for a push in the final ten minutes. Plenty of time should be added on.
  • 80'
    Yellow Card Fernando Torres
  • 80'
STAT ATTACK: Juan Mata has scored in each of the last three Premier League games between Chelsea and Manchester United. He remains on the bench tonight though.
  • 78'
    Substitution Danny Welbeck Ryan Giggs
  • 78'
STAT ATTACK: Ryan Giggs comes on for his 50th Manchester United appearance against Chelsea alone.
  • 77'
SAVE! Wayne Rooney fires a trademark right-footed cannonball from 35 yards out at Petr Cech but the Chelsea goalkeeper gets across well to palm it away for a corner, which results in nothing.
  • 75'
Wayne Rooney tracks back right the way into his own half and makes a superb sliding challenge on Ramires before finding Van Persie with a long ball which gets United on the attack. Ashley Young strays offside when he recieves the ball a moment later to end the momentum.
  • 73'
SAVE! Ashley Young delivers two dangerous crosses into the box, the second of which causes Petr Cech to come out and parry away the ball. Manchester United look a better attacking proposition following the introduction of the England winger.
  • 72'
PENALTY SHOUT! Ashley Cole nutmegs Phil Jones right on the edge of the area and then goes down as he flys past him and into the box. Jones' hand did come out in Cole's direction but the referee again waves away the protests.
  • 70'
The passing in the final third from both sides is horrendously below their usual standards. Both sides are struggling to fine any sort of rhythm.
  • 68'
Antonio Valencia saw plenty of the ball in this game but was beginning to draw some moans and groans from the home crowd. David Moyes does what he is paid to do and hauls him off for Ashley Young.
  • 66'
    Substitution Antonio Valencia Ashley Young
  • 66'
Manchester United are pressing and probing in the final third but as of yet are finding it very difficult to carve this resolute Chelsea defence open. Replays suggest the earlier penalty shout would have been harsh.
  • 64'
First Fernando Torres bursts into the Manchester United half before tamely surrendering he ball to Rio Ferdinand. He then launches Manchester United on to the attack via Valencia. Significant increase in noise and tempo inside Old Trafford now.
  • 62'
CONTROVERSY! Tom Cleverly hits a half-volley from the edge of the area and it appears to strike the arm of John Terry who charges down the shot. Referee Mike Atkinson is having none of it.
  • 61'
I have to say more of you asked for the introduction of Fernando Torres ahead of Romelu Lukaku over on Twitter. Your wish is Mourinho's command as the Spaniard replaces De Bruyne.
  • 60'
Substitution Kevin De Bruyne Fernando Torres
  • 60'
OFFSIDE CALL! Andre Schurrle is fed through on goal and rattles the crossbar with a shot but is flagged offside. A very, very narrow call it was, though.
  • 59'
SHOT! Gary Cahill strikes a vicious effort from about 35 yards with the outside of his boot but David de Gea watches it all the way and makes a fine save.
  • 58'
Antonio Valencia zooms past Ashley Cole but then casually prods the ball into the path of Phil Jones, who with his back turned, allows Gary Cahill to come and steal the ball away. Big chance for the visitors, that.
  • 56'
CHANCE! Welbeck again! Rooney feeds Welbeck inside the box and the striker has time to turn and settle himself as John Terry slips. Unfortunately he rushes his effort and and digs a shot over the bar.
  • 54'
SHOT! Michael Carrick sprays a ball out to Danny Welbeck on the left flank and the England striker is invited to cut inside by Robin van Persie's crossover run. Welbeck obliges but then only curls his shot, aimed for the top corner, high into the stands.
  • 52'
Eden Hazard crashes in a shot from distance that David de Gea saves comfortably. Good handling from the Spaniard. Chelsea beginning to edge back in terms of possession percentage.
  • 50'
Chelsea are being pegged back in their own half. Patrice Evra breaks through central mdifield and Chelsea back-off allowing him space to shoot. Instead, the left-back looks for Danny Welbeck and finds him, but the striker attempts to flick the ball back to his team-mate allowing Cahill to intervene.
  • 48'
CHANCE! Patrice Evra's cross into the box sails all the way to Antonio Valencia at the back post but the winger takes an age to decide what to do, in which time Chelsea get back in numbers and the chance dissipates.
  • 46'
Manchester United get us underway in the second half!
  • The teams are out of the tunnel for the second half and we are moments away from the beginning of the second half.
  • STAT ATTACK: Manchester Utd have lost five of the last nine Premier League games where they've gone in 0-0 at half-time (via OptaJoe).
  • Quick straw pall, if you were going to replace Andre Schurrle in attack for the second period, who do you go for - Romelu Lukaku or Fernando Torres? Send in your thoughts to @HushKerai.
  • @gonwudiwe: "Why are Chelsea playing without a natural striker? Are they trying to reinvent Jose Mourinho's negative football style?" This is a popular view amongst many Chelsea supporters.
  • @katangatimothy: "caution by both teams with the two defensive midfielders." - That could be one of the reasons behind that toothless first 45 minutes.
  • Not a lot in the form of goalscoring chances in the first half at Old Trafford. It's all been a bit tentative and cautious from David Moyes' and Jose Mourinho's respective sides. Chelsea need a striker and perhaps the introduction of Mata to shake things up. But that might just open things up for the hosts...
  • HALF-TIME: Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea
  • 45'
Chelsea have a throw-in deep inside the Manchester United half but they unadventurously play the backk all the way back to their defence. Ramires eventually goes forward with it but his cross into the area was a waste of time considering no team-mate had made an effort to get in the box.
  • 43'
SHOT! Oscar has another go at goal this time following a nice series of short passes from the visitors. Hazard's lay-off was met by the Brazilian at the edge of the area but the shot had no power or direction and David de Gea gathered easily.
  • 40'
Kevin De Bruyne looks to pick out Hazard on the right but plays the ball straight out of play. It's been that type of half for the Blues. Wayne Rooney then looks for Robin van Persie over the top but, he too, overhits his pass.
  • 38'
HALF CHANCE! Tom Cleverely eventually fires the ball over the crossbar from range after series of Manchester United crosses had Chelsea defending nervously for a bit. Terry and Cahill have been immense for the visitors so far.
  • 36'
This is a game which will delight those who you who are more inclined to appreciate team shape and tacitical defending. Not much in terms of excitement in terms of attacking action, yet.
  • 36'
This is a game which will delight those who you who are more inclined to appreciate team shape and tacitical defending. Not much in terms of excitement in terms of attacking action, yet.
  • 34'
STAT ATTACK: Jose Mourinho has lost just two of his seven competitive games as a manager at Old Trafford. That's including his time at Porto, Inter and Real Madrid, as well as his first stint with the Blues.
  • 32'
    Yellow Card Kevin De Bruyne
  • 32'
Kevin De Bruyne has blood flowing from his mouth following an altercation with Phil Jones but the Manchester United man gets the free kick. The match is beginning to open up.
  • 30'
CHANCE! Eden Hazard flies forward down the right-hand side before flashing a ball across the pitch. Kevin de Bruyne and Andre Schurrle both miss the ball as it whizzes past behind their runs.
  • 28'
SHOT! Wayne Rooney has his first effort of the game. It's a tame one from the edge of the area as he tried to guide the ball through the narrowest of holes. No question about the striker's commitment, though.
  • 26'
First ramblings of 'Jose Mourinho' eminate from the Chelsea supporters high up in the away end at Old Trafford.
  • 25'
Now Manchester United are piling on some pressure with Patrice Evra doing well to surge up the left flank. After some assured build-up the defender crosses into the box, looking for Van Persie, but his ball has just a bit too much pace on it. United on the up!
  • 23'
Half a chance as Robin van Persie does well to get a shot at goal under close attention from Ivanovic. The Dutchman worked an effort from a tight angle but could only send his strike into the side netting.
  • 22'
Finally, a flowing move from the Chelsea midfield. It all starts with some fine running by Andre Schurrle to salvage a lost caust ends with De Bruyne's first-time lay-off for Oscar. The Brazilian goes for  first-time effort himself but slices the shot wide.
  • 20'
No sign of the passing and interchange which was on show in Chelsea's opening game of the season. It's not very neat or tidy from either side at the moment, unfortunately.
  • 18'
Branislav Ivanovic gets forward from right-back and goes for a ambitous strike from range but only succeeds in earning a big ironic cheer from the home crowd.
  • 17'
That last move has finally injected some life into the Old Trafford crowd. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho can't find his pen on the touchline.
  • 16'
CHANCE! Robin van Persie finds Wayne Rooney on the right flank in acres of space before making a break to get into the area. The England striker whips a right-footed cross into the area but John Terry does just enough to prevent the Dutchman from getting on the end of it.
  • 14'
It looked promising for Chelsea as De Bruyne found Hazard in space on the left but the Blues midfielder hesitated for too long on the ball before sailing a cross high over his team-mates head. Should have done better from that.
  • 13'
Robin van Persie swings one into the box from the corner but John Terry gets up high, unchallenged, and heads the ball clear.
  • 12'
Danny Welbeck and Robin van Persie try to work a quick exchange on the edge of the area but Branislav Ivanovic intervenes in the nick of time. Corner to the Red Devils...
  • 10'
CHANCE! The ball luckily falls for Kevin De Bruyne on the right flank. He advances towards the byline before squaring a ball back for Oscar inside the box. The Brazilian's strike is scuffed, though, and he can only prod into the arms of David de Gea.
  • 9'
A long period of possession for the hosts ends in a wayward long ball out of the back from Rio Ferdinand. Chelsea's energetic pressing high up the pitch is denying Manchester United time on the ball.
  • 8'
Chelsea are sitting deep in their own half and are inviting pressure from Manchester United. The thinking from Jose Mourinho might be to play on the counterattack. All still a bit tentative in these early stages.
  • 6'
First Manchester United fans chant Wayne Rooney's name. Then Chelsea fans chant Rooney's name, adding "we'll see you next week". Banter.
  • 4'
Antonio Valencia feeds Wayne Rooney with a smart pass in midfield. Rooney manages to turn on the ball but then knocks it too far forward as he tries to skip past Gary Cahill. A bright start from the hosts.
  • 3'
Danny Welbeck brings down Valencia's cross high up the pitch but then looses the ball to Oscar as he tries to made headway. The England striker stays with the Brazilian though and makes sure he doesn't start a Blues attack.
  • 2'
Antonio Valencia tracks Oscar's advance into the Manchester United half and dispossesses him with a fine sliding tackle. Manchester United now have command of the ball in the Chelsea half.
  • 1'
Chelsea take the kick-off and we are underway!

  • David Moyes follows his team out of the tunnel and receives a great reception to the 76,000 or so inside the ground. His first league game at Old Trafford, what a challenge!
  • The sides are emerging from the Old Trafford tunnel to a cacophony of noise. This is the first heavyweight contest of the Premier League and kick-off is a matter of moments away!
  • All the pre-match talk has been about Manchester United's wantaway striker and Chelsea's lack of one. Something tells me the post-match discussion might surround a certain, forgotten, Robin van Persie.
  • Speaking to Sky Sports, Jose Mourinho had the following to stay about David Moyes' decision to start Wayne Rooney. "I'm not surprised", he said: "They have him so they are using him." The Blues boss expects to see him operate just behind Robin Van Persie. "We have to try and control him," he added.
  • Wayne Rooney jogs out onto the Old Trafford pitch for his pre-game warm-up and recieves a warm applause from those already in their seats in the ground.
  • So Wayne Rooney starts for Manchester United despite being heavily linked with the opposition tonight. Juan Mata, meanwhile, only commands a place on the Chelsea bench. His future at Stamford Bridge has come under question following the imminent arrival of Willian. Subplots aplenty.
  • Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Lampard; De Bruyne, Oscar, Hazard; Schurrle. Subs: Schwarzer, Azpilicueta, Essien, Mikel, Mata, Lukaku, Torres.
  • Manchester United (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Cleverley, Carrick; Valencia, Welbeck, Rooney; Van Persie. Subs: Lindegaard, Buttner, Smalling, Giggs, Anderson, Young, Kagawa.
  • TEAM NEWS: Wayne Rooney starts for Manchester United while Chelsea look like they will give Andre Schurrle a chance to lead the Blues' attack.
  • The game gets underway at Old Trafford at 20.00 BST. Send in all your thoughts, predicitions and questions to @HushKerai in the meantime as we build up to the action. Team news to follow shortly...
  • David Moyes, branded the 'The Chosen One' by Manchester United fans, takes charge of a league game at Old Trafford for the first time and comes up against stiff opposition in the form of Chelsea. Jose Mourinho, 'The Special One', could take his side clear at the top of the league tonight, if his side pick up their third straight win of this campaign.
