Right, that's it from me - I've been Tom J Doyle, and thanks for joining in the debate on Twitter (@TomJDoyle). What a day, and what a Manchester derby - bye for now.
Wayne Rooney struck late on to become the all-time top scorer in Manchester derbies, but City fans won't care one jot as they have emphatically beaten United today. It was a demolition to be honest, and while the visitors improved in the final 30 minutes, it could well have been worse than the famous 6-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
That's it - what a day for Manchester City! They've beaten Premier League champions and city rivals Manchester United 4-1, and looked so, so dominant. Yaya Toure and Vincent Kompany starred, while Sergio Aguero netted twice to stun David Moyes' men - where do the Red Devils go from here?
90' + 2'
So close for Dzeko! The big striker almost makes it five as he unleashes a low drive from 20 yards, but the ball swerves a yard wide of De Gea's post with the keeper static/not bothered.
90' + 1'
Blue Moon is ringing out around the ground - it's been a near-perfect day for City fans...
Three minutes of injury time left - it's been a chastening start for Moyes. Surely he will look to the likes of Kagawa, Wilfried Zaha and even Adnan Januzaj in the wake of performances from the likes of Young and Valencia. There's even Jesse Lingard, who scored four on his Birmingham debut on a one-month loan deal.
United have been better in the last half hour, but that's an easy thing to achieve when you've let in four in the first 50 minutes.
Rooney is trying to do it all himself as he curls another effort over from 20 yards. To be fair, his team maes don't really deserve to get a pass from him today - barring the striker, United have been awful.
Goal Wayne Rooney
STUNNER FROM ROONEY!!! It's another wonderful free kick from the striker who becomes the top scorer in Manchester derbies with 11 goals as he curls the ball up and over the wall into the top corner of Hart's goal. What a strike - but it's too little, too late.
"If I'm shocked, Moyes must be having a nightmare - and in daylight too..." - it's not looking god for the United manager, according to @JuliusOmokhunu.
Chance for Rooney from a free kick from 30 yards now...
Aguero is rolling around now under a challenge from Vidic, who looks back disdainfully. The Argentine quickly recovers and smirks behind Vidic's back like an evil villain - all he needs is a big white cat.
Cleverley is down and clutching his face as Ferdandinho catches him in the eye with his fingers - that looked painful.
United go close! It's havoc in the City box as Evra heads a corner against the near post. Rooney picks up the loose ball and slams an effort in at goal from the right, but Hart is up and alert to save with a foot before Fellaini gives away a free kick. That was more clown college than Premier League.
It's almost blooper time for David De Gea as substitute Dzeko toe-punts a strong effort from 20 yards whips dips just before the Spaniard, and the balls almost squirms out of his hands and into the net before he slides back to recover. That would have been truly horrific.
A whole raft of substitutions have gone on, with Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo getting great ovations from the home crowd. Negredo did fantastically hplding the ball up today, especially for Aguero's second goal.
Jesús Navas González
Negredo wants five as he bears down on goal, but wastefully slices a shot wide fom 25 yards with team mates better placed.
Yellow Card Antonio Valencia
Valencia beats the ground in frustration as Kolarov grabs his shirt and the Ecuadorian goes down on the edge of the area, but Webb gives nothing - and the winger gets a booking for his reaction. That sums up Valencia's day.
Hart saves from Fellaini! The big midfielder finally does something right as he collects a pass from Smalling and tries to whip in a fierce effort to the near post, which the keeper does well to tip over for a corner.
Welbeck is another one having a bit of a nightmare, as he lines up a shot from 16 yards before finding a delighted City fan high up in the stands somewhere. United have been outplayed all across the field.
Fellaini gives away a free kick in the area now, using his arms unfairly against Pablo Zabaleta. The former Everton man has struggled with the pace today, and will have to step up his game in the coming weeks.
When it'snot your day, it's really not your day. Rooney lines up the shot, and...punts the ball into the wall. An atrocious effort.
A rare chance for United now as Fernandinho trips Welbeck five yards outside the srea, and Rooney can hit a tradmark free kick...
Smalling gets down the right wing and is fed well by substitute Tom Cleverley, but the right-back is offside. He's looked out of his depth today, but hasn't gotten any help from his more experienced team mates.
Carrick plays a wonderful pass through to Welbeck on the left, but the forward has got few options and has to eventually shoot. Nastasic gets a late block on the ball and almost scores an own goal, but Hart is alive to the danger.
Toure goes on another barnstorming run and forces a corner - he really has been on another level today.
"Man Utd are not looking like defending champions. Top 4 also looks a bit dicey.. Will Moyes be retained if they finish below 4??" - a little early to be saying that @riyanvatcha, but 4-0 against your main rivals is never good.
STAT ATTACK (via @OptaJoe): 3 - Man City have now scored 4 goals against United in the PL three times, more than any other club (Newcastle have done it twice). Noisy.
A big miss from Rooney here as he curls a free shot over the bar from eight yards out. It's been an abysmal day for United really, and could well get worse.
Negredo nearly makes it five but Vidic denies him from around three yards out - it could be more than a 6-1 if things carry on the same way.
Assist Jesús Navas González
Goal Samir Nasri
FOUR FOR CITY!!! This is now a drubbing, as Navas runs about 80 yards down the right completely unchallenged and crosses to the back post for Samir Nasri to confidently volley back across De Gea from 10 yards. What a performance from the hosts.
Goal Sergio Agüero
AGUERO MAKES IT THREE!!! That's surely game over as City work the ball down the left and Negredo has the ball on the left of the byline. The Spaniard shows superb strength and stands the ball up into the centre for the onrushing Argentine, whose finish is too hot for De Gea to stop.
That goal was shocking for United to concede - barely a minute after the restart, Aguero ghosted in between a triangle of Fellaini, Vidic and Ferdinand, with no communication whatsoever. Completely amateur from the visitors.
The second half kicks off - can United find a way back into the game?
"Hopefully, Man Utd could revive this game in the second half if crucial subs like Nani and Chicharito are introduced" - wise words from @Hormorthorshor. How long before we see some changes from Moyes?
"ManU not missing RVP, #MCFC have simply been at home and brilliant!" it's hard to argue with @JuliusOmokhunu there. It's hard to think of one United player that has turned in a good performance so far.
STAT ATTACK (via @OptaJoe): 8 - Ashley Young made only eight successful passes in the first half against City. Peripheral.
Well, those stats suggest it may be a tad difficult for the visitors. Still, it should make for an intriguing second 45 minutes.
STAT ATTACK (via @OptaJoe): 21 - Since the start of 2012-13, no side has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League than Manchester City (21). Drilled.
Manuel Pellegrini meanwhile will be beaming from ear to ear - that was pretty much a perfect 45 minutes from his side. Can United find anything at all to make this a proper game?
STAT ATTACK (via @OptaJoe): 3 - Sergio Aguero has now scored in three of his five Premier League appearances against Man Utd. Nemesis.
What can David Moyes do to turn things around? Well for starters, replace both his wingers and tell his side to get forward more. There's no legislating for that injury to Van Persie, but this is currently a shadow of a normal United side.
That's half-time, and Manchester City look so comfortable as they lead Manchester United 2-0. It's been a frenetic derby but the hosts look right at home, while the likes of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have well and truly floundered.
45' + 1'
45' + 1'
Goal Yaya Touré
TOURE MAKES IT TWO!!! The corner comes in from the right and Negredo beats both Smalling and Vidic in the air, and that man Yaya is first to pounce on the loose ball to finish from two yards out. City are firmly in control of the Manchester derby.
One minute of injury time left and City have a corner - can they make it count?
Ashley Young thinks he's playing golf here as he hoists an aimless pass into the box and out of play with team mates running into the area. A truly terribe ball, and he may well be sacrificed at half-time - not literally, of course.
STAT ATTACK (via @OptaJoe): 9 - There were nine shots in the opening quarter of the Man City v Man Utd game, all of them coming from City. Dominate.
Valencia picks up the ball on the right and drives at goal, but hits a disappointing shot well wide of Hart's right-hand post. Not quite in the same vein as his Champions League strike against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night.
"harrassed off the ball, headband off, now booked - must be Roo's bad hair day" - not bad, @JuliusOmokhunu. Not bad at all.
Young tries to float in a cross for Welbeck to run onto here, but his delivery is far too strong from the left and Hart has an easy collection. Nani and Shinji Kagawa are waiting on the bench if Moyes wants to change things up.
Better from De Gea now as he comes out into the crowd to punch away the next corner.
Kompany almost gets his head to a near-post corner now, with De Gea ending up in a heap on the floor. They have to keep it at 1-0 before half-time.
Welbeck gives away a free kick for a barge on Hart beside the goal now - that's the most trouble the England keeper has had to deal with in the first half.
"Between Fellaini and Toure, Fellaini is still amateur #outmuscledeverytime" - Marouane hasn't had the best of starts, according to @JuliusOmokhunu. What do you think of the Belgian so far?
Negredo and Aguero are looking really sharp in and around United's defence, and while they can't quite link yet, it'll only be a matter of time if they keep this much of the ball throughout.
"Utd is kinda jittery and letting city do all the balling.. but we are the best counter attacking team in England" - so says @_aces8. There's plenty of time left for the visitors to get back into this one, but they've looked poor so far.
Yellow Card Wayne Rooney
An absolutely predictable booking for Rooney now as he fouls Toure, with Webb stating it was due to it being his fourth offence. The striker will have to calm down to have a more meaningful impact today.
Better from Valencia now - he collects the ball on the wing and beats Kolarov before getting into the box, but Kompany blocks the ball away well to stop the danger.
City almost slice United to pieces here with Nasri and Aguero enjoying themselves, but they can't quite find a way through United's back line.
Fellaini gives away a free kick out on the right now, and City almost work a lovely routine of passes that Evra blcoks back to De Gea. Valencia tries to break down the right but Toure muscles him out and retains possession - the Ivorian has been comletely dominant so far.
Is this a penalty? Kolarov goes down in the box after clattering into Smalling and the hosts want a spot kick, but Howard Webb waves away the appeals and City only have a corner.
One of the first chances for United to counter here as Welbeck is clear in the centre, and he waits for options before sending Rooney through. The striker is offside though, and his attempted chip is clawed wide by Hart anyway.
Rooney gets involved wth Kompany here and neither man will give up as a high ball comes in - they struggle so much that Rooney's headband flies off, but it's the striker that conceded the foul.
Moyes will be disappointed with Valencia for his part in the goal - the winger failed to track Kolarov's run from deep as he and Nasri played a one-two around a helpless Smalling. On such moments games like these can swing.
Abolutely no let-up here as Kompany has to be alert to see out a Young cross, while City break forward in nubers and Negredo goes close with a fizzed effort just over De Gea's bar. Wonderful stuff.
Assist Aleksandar Kolarov
Goal Sergio Agüero
WHAT A GOAL BY AGUERO!!! That is simply sensational from the City forward, who twists to meet Kolarov's cross from the left and volley the ball past a static De Gea from eight yards. An outstanding strike that is fully deserved for the hosts.
A potential flashpoint here as Rooney fouls Aguero on the wing, before clearing the ball against the Argentine's head. The home crowd are furious, but the referee sees it isn't intentional - a let-off perhaps?
Toure shapes up to unleash a rocket from distance, but Vidic again gets in the way to deflect it for a corner...
Navas acrobatically rescues the ball from going out for a throw, much to the home crowd's delight, and Toure fashions the ball for Nasri in the centre, who can only blast against a United body. Great stuff from the hosts - though they'll need to watch the visitors on the counter.
Kolarov really wants a goal from the wing - he works the ball inside and sets it upon his weaker right foot, but Valencia gets the block in. Evra heads the ball away, but it's City who are showing the early willing.
De Gea deals well with the corner, punching clear, and Nastasic can only head harmlessly over from the resulting cross. A frenetic start, but there's been no real quality in the final ball so far.
Nasri and Toure link beautifully for the Ivorian to pass to Negredo, who lets the ball run to Aguero - he feeds Kolarov, whose low cross is well cleared by Vidic for a corner.
Kolarov now lunges in rough Antonio Valenciaand the referee waves play-on, but United can't make anything of the advantage. The ball comes back to De Gea, who shanks the ball out of play to the home crowd's delight. He may have to calm down a little.
An early booking for Matija Nastasic here as he clatters into the back of Chris Smalling in an aerial battle, leaving the England defender in a heap. It was clumsy but the yellow is harsh this early on, and he'll have to be very careful for the next 85 minutes.
Yellow Card Matija Nastasic
United win the ball in their own area and Fellaini feeds Vidic, who plays a loose ball out of the box which Navas collects. The winger tries to curl one past David de Gea from 25 yards, but it's far too high.
The ball comes in but United get it away - both sides have plenty of height today, so it'll take something special from a set piece to decide it.
This has started so quickly - Yaya Toure shows fine feet but can't pick a pass for Negredo, while Rooney slots Welbeck in through the centre but the youngster loses his footing at the vital time. Now Aguero wins a corner from Vidic - what a start!
Welbeck is almost in after seven seconds! Kompany dallies on the ball and his clearance hits the United forward, who bears down on Joe Hart's goal - but the City captain does just enough to force it out for a goal kick.
We're underway at the Etihad - titles aren't necessarily won on days like this, but any sort of win would send out a big statement for both new managers.
The sides are out and the atmosphere is electric - there's so much quality out there today, so we should have a top game in store.
We're about five minutes from kick-off now. It's fair to say these derbies have featured a few goals of late - who could ever forget a 6-1 away win at Old Trafford? - so let's hope for plenty today.
If you want to get involved with debate on the game, join me on Twitter on @TomJDoyle to get the ball rolling and I'll feature the best answers.
One of the more intriguing battles today will be Evra against Jesus Navas. The Spaniard lines up in his first Manchester derby against the experienced Frenchman, though the left-back is liable to get caught high up the field. Expect fireworks.
Further back the field meanwhile, we're set for a mouth-watering midfield battle between Yaya Toure & Fernandinho and Michael Carrick & Marouane Fellaini. The big Belgian was signed to provide a presence in games like these, and it'll be a fascinating clash in the centre of the park.
It's hard to overstate just how big a miss Van Persie is for United today - besides his goals, he does so much off the ball, and it'll be a tough task to replace him today.
STAT ATTACK (via@OptaJoe): 1 - Today will be the first time Robin van Persie has missed a PL game since March 5 2011; a run of 90 matches. Absent.
Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo are the forwards entrusted with defeating United today, with Edin Dzeko relegated to the bench. Shinji Kagawa again misses out for the Red Devils, with Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young presumably selected for their defensive work rate.
Vincent Kompany returns to the City back line in a big boost for Manuel Pellegrini's side - and he told Sky Sports his side are more than ready for the visit of the Premier League champions: "We've done all the right things to prepare for this game."
Patrice Evra just revealed to Sky Sports that he was sick before his first Manchester derby before being subbed at half-time after a horrible 45-minute showing. Needless to say he's gone from strength to strength, and he says experience like those have 'made me the player I am now.'
Man Utd subs: Amos, Buttner, Evans, Cleverley, Nani, Kagawa, Hernandez.
Man City subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Richards, Garcia, Milner, Jovetic, Dzeko.
The big news for United fans is that star striker Robin van Persie misses out today with a thigh strain - that's a huge blow for David Moyes. The silver lining is that Wayne Rooney is in fine form, and will be desperate to prove he's the main man in the Dutchman's absence.
Man Utd starting XI: De Gea; Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling; Young, Carrick, Fellaini, Valencia; Rooney, Welbeck.
Man City starting XI: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolarov; Nasri, Fernandinho, Toure, Navas; Aguero, Negredo.
Good afternoon and welcome to the LIVE commentary of Manchester City v Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium. I'm Tom J Doyle, and Premier League games don't get much bigger than this - so without further ado, let's check the team news...
