Malaga 1-4 Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain help Jose Mourinho's side climb to the summit of La Liga

Swift attack allowed the visitors to dominate...

Real Madrid climbed to the top of La Liga with a convincing demolition of Malaga.

After their early stutter, Jose Mourinho’s side are quickly finding form and having scored ten goals in their last two league games, Real are starting to convince fans they are able to attack and, more importantly, defend with ease.

Cristiano Ronaldo was in inspired form as he assisted both of Gonzalo Higuain’s goals, as well as scoring a brace himself. The hosts managed a consolation from Kris Stadsgaard, but Malaga never threatened to pose any danger to Mourinho’s men.

As you would expect Real Madrid had more of the ball and dominated Malaga in the opening stages of the first half.

Ronaldo, Mesut Oezil and Angel Di Maria were causing the Malaga defence problems with their constant movement behind lone striker Higuain. Oezil, in particular, was causing havoc when he cut inside from the wings.

Despite their opponents spending the majority of the match in their half, Malaga's defence seemed like it was going to hold firm, although they rode their luck as an effort from Higuain struck the base of the post and a Sami Khedira thunderblot rattled the crossbar.

The warnings were there and Real eventually made the breakthrough as Ronaldo crossed from the left for Higuain, who had peeled away from his marker Weligton, and tapped in past a stranded Galatto.

The second goal arrived just before half time as Oezil turned provider for Ronaldo. The German strode down the right, taking the ball easily past a backtracking Weligton, before cutting the ball back to the Portuguese forward, who finished from six yards.

Deadly duo | Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain were in lethal form for Madrid

It wasn't long into the second half before Real Madrid made it three. Edu Ramos fouled Oezil in the area and Ronaldo stepped up to convert the spot kick.

Malaga pulled a goal back immediately after, as Stadsgaard poked the ball home after an Alberto Luque corner was inadvertently directed to the defender.

But any hope for a comeback was soon extinguished as Higuain scored Madrid's fourth, five minutes later. The Argentinean collected the ball from Ronaldo and shot into the far corner past Galatto.

Real managed to comfortably see out the game and their display was an encouraging sign given last season’s defensive frailties on the road. Mourinho appears to have instilled discipline into his new side, while allowing the creative influence of Ronaldo to become a focal point of their attack.
