Liverpool - Swansea Preview: Dalglish's men hope to find winning formula at home

The Reds face a Swans side who have just one point in five away games and are unbeaten in five fixtures at Anfield this season, but have won just two of those clashes

PROBABLE LINEUPS

LIVERPOOL

Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique
Henderson, Adam, Lucas, Downing
Suarez, Carroll
SWANSEA

Vorm
Rangel, Monk, Williams, Taylor
Gower, Britton, Allen
Dyer, Graham, Sinclair
Liverpool go into the game without injured captain Steven Gerrard after manager Kenny Dalglish revealed the midfielder would miss this clash along with the upcoming England friendlies due to his ongoing ankle trouble.

That means a pairing of Lucas and Charlie Adam, which was so effective for the Reds against West Brom, should continue in the middle.

Centre-back Jamie Carragher may yet recover from his calf injury but a pairing of Agger and Skrtel, could continue after keeping what was only Liverpool’s 3rd league clean sheet this season in their last outing.

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers may well choose to trust the same lineup used for the Swans past two games after recent positive results.

That side yielded an away point at Wolves, their first all season, and an impressive home win over Bolton Wanderers.

The attacking triumvirate of Joe Allen, Scott Sinclair and Danny Graham have three quarters of Swansea’s league goals between them this season and will hope they can finally bring that cutting edge to an away ground in order to build on their first away point.

Buoyed by his goal against West Brom, the Geordie forward is starting to show all the signs of a developing partnership with Luis Suarez.

The former Newcastle man had been criticised for encouraging his teammates to play a long game but showed enough neat touches on the ground against the Baggies to silence the critics.

A goal here, which would be his first at Anfield this season, may just kick start his year.

The 21-year-old midfielder has garnered high praise for his performances in helping newly-promoted Swansea into the top half of the Premier League this season.

His eye for a pass has seen manager Brendan Rodgers compare him to current Barcelona midfield greats and earned him the nickname ‘The Welsh Iniesta’.

The Swans will have to deprive their hosts of possession if they are to have a hope here and the young midfielder will be a big part of that plan.
Prediction
Liverpool’s last Anfield outing saw them draw disappointingly against Norwich but they have since picked up away wins at notoriously difficult grounds in the Britannia and the Hawthorns.

The Reds will be full of confidence having achieved those results without the influential Gerrard and face a Swansea side whose away record is less than impressive.

Given the increasingly clear chemistry between Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, this could be a difficult trip for the Welsh side.
