Commentary

Sadly we're all out of time in this one as both sides split the points in an enthralling 3-3 draw. Arsenal were so close to seeing out a massive result after Giroud's second-half goal, but a late hammer blow from Allen rescued a dramatic and deserved point for Liverpool. Another Premier League classic between these two sides. Arsenal now top the league only on goal difference ahead of Leicester. That's all from us, see you next time!
90' + 2' Now then, there's still a little bit of time left here in the added period, is there more drama to be had? This stadium is rocking from root to crown. Firmino tries to angle one in for Benteke, but it's too close to Cech.
J. Allen
Goal
Liverpool
90' ALLEN HAS DONE IT! Benteke wins a header with a towering leap, and the substitute runs onto it, smashing the ball in at the back post just ahead of Bellerin! What a game!
C. Benteke
Assist
Liverpool
90' The big man finally wins a header, and what a crucial time to do it! Great assist.
88' The Kop is getting animated every time a ball comes into the area, but Benteke and Co. haven't been able to profit against a suddenly stubborn Arsenal backine. We're approaching injury time.
S. Caulker
A. Lallana
Liverpool
88' Lallana is withdrawn for the new signing Caulker, who has only a few minutes to make an impression.
Arteta
M. Özil
Arsenal
87' Ozil departs for Arteta as Wenger looks to shore things up in midfield.
86' This will be a monumental character test passed by Arsenal if they manage to see out the remaining minutes. The Gunners have really stood up to be counted in big domestic games this season, and are close to another massive result.
84' Time is not Liverpool's ally at the moment. They continue to keep the ball camped around the box, but Arsenal are repelling everything that has been hoisted into their penalty area.
J. Allen
E. Can
Liverpool
82' Allen is thrown on for the closing stages in place of Can.
82' Commanding play from Mignolet, who deals with a high ball with more confidence than at any other point this evening. Ozil's cross is headed towards Ramsey at the back post, but the keeper races off his line to punch clear.
80' Wasted by Oxlade-Chamberlain. Benteke's shot is blocked, and the substitute charges down the right on the break. He's got options in the centre to cross to, but he runs right into Toure.
78' Anywhere will do for Arsenal at the moment as Koscielny hacks it clear ahead of Benteke, but they're allowing Liverpool to have the ball too easily. You can sense the tension growing around the ground by the second.
K. Gibbs
T. Walcott
Arsenal
76' Walcott follows Campbell off the field, as Gibbs enters in his stead.
A. Oxlade-Chamberlain
J. Campbell
Arsenal
75' Oxlade-Chamberlain is introduced in place of the impressive Campbell.
74' Testing period for Arsenal to navigate as Liverpool pile the pressure on them. Benteke lets fly from around 18 yards, but Cech manages to keep a hold of it in these difficult conditions.
72' GREAT OPENING! Liverpool continue to push forward, as Ibe exchanges passes with Firmino, which frees him down the right flank. He's right at the byline inside the area, and squares it across goal for Lallana to do the rest, but Koscielny boots it into row Z!
70' Moreno takes aim from long range after a shoddy clearance, but a deflection helps that one out for a corner. The full-back gets on the ball again and plays one in for Firmino, but he glances his header wide of the mark!
68' Liverpool are starting to turn the screw again, and Arsenal are getting more men back to defend. Once again, the Reds are opting for the wide route to get the ball into the box, but so far, the Gunners are just about dealing with it.
C. Benteke
J. Milner
Liverpool
66' First change of the game from either manager, and it's Benteke who makes his appearance at the expense of Milner. It's an expected change from Klopp. With Giroud so effective as a target man at the other end tonight, the German manager will hope for some of that effectiveness from his Belgian striker.
65' Liverpool are starting to lose their bearings a little in attack. A few crucial passes have broken down to the frustration of the crowd. By contrast, Arsenal are starting to look very slick on the counter-attack.
63' Campbell has had himself quite an accomplished game in terms of his playmaking. He once again gets the telling pass into Giroud inside the area and, in typical fashion, the Frenchman goes for goal on the turn. However, this time, his shot is blocked.
61' This is an encouraging period of Liverpool pressure. They've not hesitated to get the ball into the area, but the lack of a Benteke-like figure has hurt them in that regard. As good as Firmino has been, he's not the greatest asset in the air.
59' Moreno gets to Can's threaded pass down the left and hooks a cross into Firmino right inside the box, but the defence gets it clear. However, Ibe picks up the pieces just inside the area, but his strike is blocked.
57' What next in this tremendous match? Arsenal complete the fightback, but it would be a fool who suggests that the scoring is finished in this game. Arsenal win a dangerous free-kick, but ozil can't get his ball over the wall, despite the suggestions of a handball.
O. Giroud
Goal
Arsenal
55' MAGNIFICENT FINISH FROM GIROUD! Bellerin starts the move by skipping past his man down the right after winning a challenge. he plays the ball into Campbell, who threads in Giroud inside the area. The Frenchman then takes the ball on the turn before hammering an accomplished effort into the bottom corner!
N. Clyne
Yellow Card
Liverpool
53' Monreal challenges for the ball with Clyne, and the Liverpool full-back used his hand to win it. The refere spots that one and books him for the infraction.
53' There's another good chance for Arsenal to break as Ramsey threads in Walcott down the right. He's got options peeling into space centrally, but once again decides to take responsibility for the chance himself, but he's tackled cleanly right at the edge of the penalty area.
51' After a good chance for Ibe breaks down, Walcott leads Arsenal on the break. He's got Campbell trying to position himself in support, but the forward goes for it all on his own. However, his shot from the edge of the area is poor and dragged wide.
49' OVER THE BAR AT THE OTHER END! Like Campbell did moments ago, Moreno misses a good opportunity for Liverpool as a cross is flicked into his direction at the back post, but he lashes his finish well over the top.
47' Right away the Gunners attack! Ozil picks up possession on the left side and hooks a great early ball into Campbell at the back post, but the Costa Rican can't keep his effort down on the half-volley!
46' Here we go again.
And that will do it for the first half from Anfield. We all need to catch our breath after 45 minutes of continuous action. Liverpool got off to a fast start and took the lead through Firmino, but Remsey drew Arsenal level within minutes. A stunner from the Brazilian sent the hosts back in front, but once again, the Gunners hit back, this time through Giroud. Let's hope for more of the same in the second half. Stay tuned.
45' + 3' SO CLOSE TO ANOTHER! Firmino comes within inches of completing his hat-trick and sending Liverpool back into the lead after picking up a soft Koscienly clearance and shooting on the turn, but he can't convert!
45' + 2' Cech is forced to earn his corn again as Can takes aim from long range, but you would never expect the keeper to be beaten with that sort of strike. He positioned himself well to make that stop.
45' The referee calls for a drop ball after an incident near the touchline, which is not greeted kindly by the Liverpool fans. We're just about to enter stoppage time here after what has been a whirlwind first-half.
43' DEFLECTED! Koscielny starts a solid Arsenal move with a through pass to Monreal on the left flank, who eschews the crossing option of Giroud at the back post for a square ball into Walcott. The England international cuts onto his right boot and has a crack on goal, but a touch off a Liverpool defender takes it away from danger.
41' Liverpool get on the attack again, with Cech called into action this time. Firmino finds himself in space and tries to square one in for Lallana to finish, but the Arsenal goakeeper reads the situation well and makes a crucial interception.
39' The tempo of the game seems to have finally slowed down, giving us a chance to catch our breath. Firmino somehow manages to squeeze in a cross from a tight area on the byline, but it goes nowhere.
37' Moment of concern for Arsenal as Moreno keeps possession of a high ball and tries a clever and ambitious curler into the heart of the area. It's Henderson making the run to connect, but the ball doesn't cooperate and Cech is off his line to smother that one.
35' Once again, Liverpool are left thanking their lucky stars from a set-piece. An Arsenal corner goes towards Mignolet, but the Gunners win two flicks, with the ball just failing to reach their man at the back post. Could have easily been another.
33' Whereas Arsenal were the side looking nervy in the opening exchanges, it's now Liverpool who appear to be vulnerable as the Gunners probe around their penalty area. The set-piece problems that have haunted the Reds all season are on full display today - Mignolet and his defence are wobbling whenever the ball is in the air.
31' We got a treat last night with Newcastle's 3-3 draw with Manchester United, and it appears that we're set for another thriller here at Anfield. Any sort of defensive agenda has been thrown out the window, as both sides have had a soft underbelly exposed regularly.
29' THIS IS COMICAL! Shoddy defending from Liverpool allows Giroud space inside the six-yard area for a tap-in, but he produces an even more head-scratching miss on a chance that seemed destined to make this game 3-2!
27' Liverpool will be kicking themselves at the ease with which they allowed the Gunners back into the game. It was terrible defending on that corner all around, from Lallana's marking to Mignolet's covering of his near post.
A. Ramsey
Assist
Arsenal
25' A goal and an assist now for Ramsey, who delivered the telling corner.
O. Giroud
Goal
Arsenal
25' ARSENAL ARE LEVEL AGAIN! From the resulting corner after that Ramsey chance, the Welshman lifts one into the danger area, where Giroud sticks a leg out to convert! Too easy for the Gunners.
23' SMART COVERING FROM SAKHO! Campbell again links well with Ramsey, flicking the latter in behind the defence and he hooks the ball over the onrushing Mignolet. However, the ex-PSG defender is back on the line to head clear the danger!
21' Arsenal continue to wobble at their core as Liverpool carve them apart once again. This time, it's Moreno who breaks free and cracks an effort off the crossbar, but the offside flag is up quickly.
J. Milner
Assist
Liverpool
19' Milner beat Campbell to the ball at the top of the box and quickly squared for Firmino to do the rest.
Roberto Firmino
Goal
Liverpool
19' WHAT A GEM FROM FIRMINO! He picks up possession on the edge of the area and curls a stunner into the top corner! Cech could have done better for the opener but this time, he had no chance!
18' That equaliser appears to be little more than an anomaly as Liverpool are right back on top of this game. Play is centred around the Arsenal area once again as the visitors are forced to defend. The good news for the Gunners is that Giroud is back with us.
16' Some patching up required here for Olivier Giroud, who won a crucial knock-down in the buildup to that goal but took a blow to the back of his head for his troubles. He's up on his feet though and early signs appear that he'll be alright to continue.
J. Campbell
Assist
Arsenal
14' Campbell with a reverse pass that Mesut Ozil himself would have been proud of.
A. Ramsey
Goal
Arsenal
14' ARSENAL RIGHT BACK IN THIS ONE! Ramsey is the man with the Midas touch, as Campbell slides in a tremendous pass down the blindside of two defenders, with the Welshman running onto it and arrowing it home at the near post!
12' Liverpool are hounding Arsenal at every opportunity, and there's no rest for the Gunners as the home team keep attacking. Looking at that goal again, you could certainly argue that Cech could have pushed that into a less dangerous area.
Roberto Firmino
Yellow Card
Liverpool
10' The goalscorer was booked for whipping off his shirt in celebration.
Roberto Firmino
Goal
Liverpool
10' FIRMINO GIVES LIVERPOOL THE LEAD! Arsenal are left dumbfounded as Milner cuts in from the left flank to hammer one on goal. Cech pushes it away, but it falls right to Firmino, who smashes home the rebound on the turn!
9' Arsenal are struggling to get a toe on the ball as Liverpool swam all over them. Ibe is the next player to go to ground inside the penalty area, this time under pressure from Koscielny, but the referee once again waves play on.
7' It's Liverpool in the ascendancy here and the home team have a penalty shout after seven minutes, as Lallana ghosts past Mertesacker but appeared to be impeded as he went down. No call from the referee though.
5' Some decent possession for the home team here as Arsenal are the ones struggling to connect with their more ambitious passes. Campbell has already been caught offside though, showing that the Gunners want to play a little directly.
3' Rainy night here at Anfield, and will that affect the type of football that these teams hope to play? You can expect Liverpool to press the Gunners relentlessly, as that type of approach has unsettled Wenger's men in the past.
1' Off we go!
Wenger keeps it a little more conservative than Klopp, making five changes to his team from their cup exploits. Aaron Ramsey, who scored off the bench against Sunderland, and Mesut Ozil make their return, while Per Mertesacker and Nacho Monreal line up at the mack. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs headline those making way.
Kolo Toure and Mahmadou Sakho are both fit enough to start at the centre of the hosts' defence, giving them the pairing of recognised defenders that they lacked against Exeter. It's an entirely different XI from Klopp following FA Cup action, with Roberto Firmino leading the line, flanked by Adam Lallana and Jordon Ibe.
Arsenal subs: Macey, Gibbs, Gabriel, Arteta, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chambers, Iwobi.
Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Cech; Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Ramsey, Flamini; Campbell, Ozil, Walcott; Giroud.
Liverpool subs: Ward, Benteke, Caulker, Lucas, Allen, Smith, Joao Carlos.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Mignolet; Clyne, Toure, Sakho, Moreno; Henderson, Can, Milner; Ibe, Firmino, Lallana.
These two teams always put on a good show, with the last nine games between them at Anfield resulting in 35 goals. Only Manchester United (21) have beaten Arsenal more times than Liverpool (16), but the Gunners haven't tasted defeat in their last four games against the Reds. Of course, that streak was preceded by the infamous 5-1 Liverpool win at Anfield, but Wenger's men did gain a measure of revenge last year with an almost-as-impressive 4-1 triumph at the Emirates.
Arsenal, meanwhile are 2 points clear at the top of the pile, and dumped Sunderland out of the FA Cup last time out with a 3-1 victory. Only Leicester City have taken more points or scored more goals on the road than the Gunners this season. Title fever is slowly simmering at the Emirates, but there's an air of wariness as Arsenal have been here before in recent seasons, only to falter when it mattered most. Will this term be different?
Liverpool are six points adrift of the top four, and a full 12 behind tonight's opponents. Consistency and goals have been the main problems for the Merseyside outfit, with only four teams in the Premier League scoring fewer than their 22 strikes this term. In their last outing, the Reds had to twice fight back from a goal down to earn a draw and a replay against League Two side Exeter City in the FA Cup.
