Did not have a single save to make during the first half, which, in light of his inactivity, makes his terrific stop from Gabbiadini’s header around the hour mark all the more impressive.
The Brazilian produced a shocking early cross when he found himself with time and space on the right wing and his delivery – particularly from set-pieces - did not really improve thereafter. Maicon was, however, pretty busy down the right flank, as per usual, and he always crucially stepped inside to cover after Carrozza tried to get himself in on goal.
Welcomed Carrozza to the game by barging the midfielder off the ball early on and also embarked on one his renowned forays forward only to be left disappointed by Poli’s inability to pick him out. Stepped out of defence on occasion, as is his wont, but to little effect and his growing frustration manifested itself in a dreadfully late challenge on Moralez which earned the centre-half a booking.
Coped quite comfortably with everything that Atalanta threw at him and got forward whenever he could. However, one or two inviting crosses aside, he failed to make the kind of pose the kind of sustained attacking threat that he is capable of.
Enjoyed a pretty comfortable afternoon at the heart of the Inter defence and very nearly opened the scoring just moments after Milito’s penalty miss but his header was stopped by Consigli.
Made a couple of vintage surges forward. In the first instance ten minutes in, he but was unable to pick anybody out after creating some space for himself on the right wing, and the counterattack he sparked with a terrific midfield burst during the second half also came to nothing. Overall, he struggled to influence the game, with his most notable contribution a second-half header which was easily dealt with by Consigli.
Worked hard, getting back to cover when necessary. He also threatened on occasion, most notably with a fiercely-struck volley from the left-hand side of the area which flew just over the bar; his long-range strike on 40 minutes was not quite as threatening! Overall, another patchy performance from Obi, who was replaced on 66 minutes.
Recalled to the starting line-up and began brightly, getting a strike away on goal early on, though it was never troubling Consigli. He repeatedly won possession back for his side with impeccably executed tackles and caused some problems when he ventured forward but he failed to boss the midfield, particularly during the second half.
Used the ball sensibly and smartly but did not produce any killer passes. He did sting the palms of Consigli with a fine 25-metre drive early in the second period but, overall, he never really grabbed a hold of the game.
Spent most of the first half tangling with Gabbiadini and one of their clashes resulted in the penalty which was so badly wasted by Milito. Pazzini did call Consigli into action on a couple of occasions, with a weak header from a Maicon cross and a powerful low drive, but he was living off scraps for the most part.
Linked well with Maicon 12 minutes in but his subsequent volleyed cross was poor. His penalty, though, was even worse, the Argentine failing to generate any power on a unforgivably telegraphed strike. Unsurprisingly, that miss jolted his confidence and it came as no surprise when he was hauled off midway through the second half.
Got down well to save Milito’s penalty, although it was not the greatest of spot-kicks, it has to be said. However, that was not the fault of Consgli, who then did well to keep out a header from Samuel from the resulting corner.
Put in a serious shift on the right-hand side and produced a couple of terrific crosses into the box. Just a shame that nobody got on the end of them.
Has to be reprimanded for stupidly hauling down Pazzini in the area – even though his goalkeeper ensured that his indiscretion went unpunished. However, he did not put a foot wrong thereafter. Indeed, he later put in a brilliantly timed challenge on Poli, though, which put his side on the counter and also got forward well before being replaced.
Was enjoying an easy ride until Zarate came on and then he began to struggle. However, he played his part in a fine rearguard action from the visitors.
Was not afraid to put his head where it hurts and while that resulted of him winning a lot of balls in the air, it also saw him pick up a nasty blow just before the break, which, luckily for Atalanta, he recovered from. Indeed, he made a terrific block on Cambiasso shortly after half-time.
Worked tirelessly throughout but he was probably lucky to stay on the field after a horribly reckless challenge on Obi as the youngster sped away from him. However, he can be proud of his contribution.
Featured heavily early on, causing Inter problems with his clever runs in behind. However, he was muscled off the ball by Maicon after being put in on goal by Moralez and then miscued horribly as he tried a spectacular scissors kick just inside the area. Cannot fault his endeavour but his shooting was horribly wayward throughout.
Defended well from start to finish, coping quite comfortably with Inter's front two, and very nearly opened the scoring with a fine strike from distance just before the interval.
Like Cigarini, he covered every blade of grass as the pair went about denying Inter any real time and space to work with in the middle of the pitch. Picked up a booking for his troubles but that will be of little concern to him.
One of the brighter attacking players on the field. Put Carrozza away with a nicely-weighted through-ball but his team-mate just did not have the pace or the strength to shake off Maicon. Moralez fared much better when he took on the full-back shortly before half-time but the then failed to pick out anybody in the area.
Never really got a sight of goal during the first half and was then stretchered from the field of play ten minutes after the restart in absolute agony after landing awkwardly following a collision with Lucio.
- 12 L. Castellazzi
- 23 A. Ranocchia
- 17 A. Palombo
Came on in place of Obi with 24 minutes remaining but was unable to make anything happen for the hosts.
- 9 D. Forlán
Saw just under half an hour of action and brought some much-needed pace to the Inter attack but, as ever, there was no end product.
Replaced Poli with ten minutes to go and was unable to make his presence felt.
- 78 G. Frezzolini
Came on for Bellini with four minutes to go, so did not have sufficient time to make an impression on the proceedings.
- 44 R. Cazzola
- 10 G. Bonaventura
Thrown on in place of Carrozza with 12 minutes remaining and was lively enough.
Made a tremendous difference to the Atalanta attack when he came on early in the second half. Indeed, he drew a wonderful save out of Julio Cesar and also should have had a penalty after being brought down by Lucio in the box.
- 90 S. Tiribocchi
