The Green Army had to wait until the 67th minute for the Ugandan-born Rwandan striker Kagere to put them ahead of visitors Kakamega Homeboyz, who had proved a difficult opponent in the first-half.
Coach Ze Maria, having read the game, rested George Odhiambo at the onset of second-half for Kagere, who lifted Gor Mahia’s spirits almost immediately with several attempts before hitting past Wanyika Michael in Kakamega Homeboyz’ goal.
Earlier on, Godfrey Walusimbi had come closer with a beautiful free kick in the 13th minute. Keeper Boniface Oluoch had also made a wonderful save in the 23rd minute before George Odhiambo posed a real threat against the visitors three minutes later.
The Mike Mururi coached side pushed hard in search of an equalizer after Kagere’s goal but Gor Mahia stayed alert to protect Boniface Oluoch from conceding any goal leaving Nakuru with three points.
K’Ogalo have now garnered nine points from four matches and are placed at the top of the table awaiting outcomes of Sunday matches where AFC Leopards are expecting to beat Chemelil Sugar so as to reclaim their leadership.
