Didn't have too much to deal with in terms of shot-stopping but certainly had to be on his toes at times as there was a few scrambles inside the box that he pounced upon to take the pressure off.
Dug in despite being up against a real talent in Konoplyanka. Put in some superbly timed challenges and constantly snuffed out Ukraine counterattacks with his positioning and reading of the game.
Elegnantly marshaled the defence throughout the match as was always looking to burst out of defence and create play from the back. Read the game magnificently and snuffed out the threat from Zozulya with minimal fuss.

Was dominant aerially in the first half but earned a booking after a daft scuffle with Sakho. Left Ukraine with a mountain to climb to get back into the match after getting himself sent off after the break with a scything challenge on Ribery.
Had his hands full with Ribery's pace, directness, and trickery coming in from the left-hand side and struggled at times. However, was full of desire to get back into position whenever in forward positions.
Was guilty of standing off Valbuena at times which allowed the Marseille man to pick out crosses into the box at will. However, learned his lesson in the second period and got in his face.
Displayed flashes of his trickery and speed down the left and gave Debuchy something to think about, but didn't do it often enough and often came out second best. Delivery into the box could have been better as his free kicks were flat.
Attempted to slot in just behind Zozulya in the hole but barely saw the ball in that position, which left the strike horribly isolated up top.
Showed some flashes of class as he drilled an unlucky strike just wide of the post from 25 yards out but drifted in and out of the match offensively.
Didn't look comfortable almost immediately as he earned a booking just seven minutes in when he took out Ribery. Attempted to screen his defence but was pulled out of position too many times.
Was the most anonymous player on the park as he barely saw the ball in his lone striker role up top. Attempted to drift from his position to find the ball but was always followed by Varane and was the game's most ineffective player.
Grew into the match in the first period and began to look dangerous down that right-hand side. Gave Evra a tough match at times with his pace and his drifting runs into the box but should have scored just before the break with a shot at the back post. Became more anonymous as the match went on.
