Was beaten at his near post by Alba for Barcelona's first goal, before being nutmegged by Tello for the visitors' second when he should have perhaps have done better. Could do nothing about Messi's superb hat-trick.
Statuesque as Tello jinxed past him to make it 2-0 to Barcelona in the seventh minute of the game. Did little of note going forward and was shown up defensively more than once by Tello and Messi over the course of the match.
Suffered a torrid time at the back for Deportivo as Barcelona ran riot in the first half. Sold by Fabregas' backheel to Messi as the Argentine made it 3-0, and was positionally suspect throughout.
Pulled out of position on numerous occasions by the movement of Barcelona's attacking trio. Also failed to track the run of Jordi Alba as he opened the scoring in the third minute. Caught Messi in the 60th minute and was shown a yellow card, setting up an uncomfortable last half an hour for himself.
Performed poorly at the back in the first half as Barcelona came racing out of the blocks. Put in some decent last-ditch challenges in the second half as the visitors continued to threaten, but could not stop Messi as he drove forward to complete his hat-trick and make it 5-4.
Showed signs of testing Barcelona's makeshift defence in the first half, despite his side trailing. Won and dispatched the penalty past Valdes to notch his side's first of the evening before scoring a fine free-kick shortly after half-time to make it 4-3.
The veteran midfielder showed some neat touches in the centre of the park but had some trouble keeping up in a frenetic match. Tired in the second half and was brought off on the hour mark.
The attacking midfielder somehow had a quiet game in what was a thrilling encounter. Apart from one promising cross from the right in the first half he did little to trouble Barcelona and was unsurprisingly substituted after the break.
Seemed to lose interest as Barcelona raced into an early three-goal lead, but perked up when his side were in possession, an example being in the 37th minute when he scored his side's second goal of the match with a well-struck half-volley from the edge of the penalty area. Impressed as the match wore on.
Put in a tireless performance as the focal point of Deportivo's attack as his side chased the game from the third minute. Made life uncomfortable for Barcelona's makeshift defence with his rugged approach and constant hassling when they had possession.
Could do nothing about Pizzi's penalty but should have saved Deportivo's second as Bergantinos' half-volley ricocheted off him and into the back of the net. Was beaten by Pizzi's superb free-kick shortly after half-time before Alba volleyed past him to make it 5-4 and set up a tense finale.
The young full-back put in a decent performance in a hectic match as he slotted into the starting XI in the place of the injured Dani Alves. Showed tactical discipline to hold his position well throughout and was not caught out as Deportivo hit on the counter.
A tough night for the Argentine. He will feel slightly aggrieved that his challenge on Pizzi resulted in a penalty in the first half, as the foul appeared to take place outside the penalty area. Was then unlucky to be sent off early in the second half for a second bookable offence after the referee deemed him to have caught Riki with a flailing arm.
Showcased his blossoming attacking prowess by opening the scoring in the third minute with a calmly taken goal. Was less convincing defensively and was guilty of a moment of madness late on as he volleyed past his own keeper to make it 5-4.
A hit-and-miss performance from the midfielder as he conjured up some fine passes and dribbles but was also booked for a rash challenge on Riki.
Reinstated back in his preferred midfield role the elegant midfielder dictated play at times during the first half. His short passing ability remains unmatched, although he did lose his composure a couple of times as Deportivo hit back in the second half.
Produced three of the highest-quality assists you are likely to see all season. He started the game superbly by picking Alba out with a delicate pass as the left-back opened the scoring in the third minute. Demonstrated a seemingly-telepathic connection with Messi over the course of the match, supplying the Argentine with two fabulous assists in the first half.
Looked out of his depth playing at centre-back, with his positioning uncertain at times. Failed to track the runs of Riki and Pizzi as the home side's attackers pulled him out of defence during the game.
Making his second league start of the season the Spain international was competent in possession and stretched the Deportivo defence from his position on the left-hand side before he was withdrawn shortly after half-time.
Scored Barcelona's second of the evening after combining well with Messi, jinxing past Ayoze and then firing a low effort between the legs of Aranzubia. Troubled the Deportivo back-line with his direct running and electric pace before being replaced by Pedro in the second half.
Scored a fabulous hat-trick tonight for his side. Notched two top goals in the first half, one with his left and one with his right, before providing what turned out to be the decisive goal with a brilliant solo run and finish in the 77th minute. Also provided the assist for Tello's goal with a driving run and crisp pass.
Replaced Villa early in the second-half as Barcelona looked to hold on to their lead. Defended well during his time on the pitch.
Provided the calm in the middle of the pitch that Barcelona appeared to lose in the second half. Helped keep possession as his side secured all three points.
Gave Barcelona an outlet late on with a fresh pair of legs and helped retain the ball high up the pitch.
