  • Here's Andrew Kennedy's final word: "Stamford Bridge has emptied rather quickly, with the fans choosing to showcase their disdain following Steven Taylors late equaliser and not partake in the club's end of season lap of honour. A few thousand faithful still remain, yet the number of empty seats is a clear message to the Chelsea team that they have just been good enough this campaign."
  • And it's over at Stamford Bridge! It has finished 2-2 thanks to that last-ditch Taylor header. Very good performance from Newcastle, fully deserving of their point. Chelsea were lacklustre throughout and struggled to carve out opportunities. Fair result.

EQUALISER FOR NEWCASTLE!!!!! The corner from the left is smashed to the back-post where Ranger headed back across the goal where Steven Taylor was waiting unmarked and headed into the top corner! Brilliant stuff!
  • 90' + 1'
Nearly a chance for Newcastle! Simpson crossed from the right towards Ranger but Cech collected ahead of him. Nearly!
  • 89'
Malouda attempts to play a clever pass behind the Newcastle defence for Anelka, but once again some very effective defending from Coloccini as he spectacularly clears.
  • 86'
Newcastle now trying to push onto Chelsea after falling behind. Jose Enrique, who has been brilliant throughout, is effectively playing as a left-winger now.

GOAL FOR CHELSEA!!!!! A deep free-kick from Frank Lampard to floated over towards the back-post where Alex rose to beat Krul in the air! It was a good header, however, the goalkeeping was highly suspect.

  • 81'
Decent chance for Newcastle! The impressive Enrique crossed from the left and Lovenkrands met it accrobatically, but it was never on target and Cole stopped Ranger from getting on the end of the shot.

Here's another atmostphere update from Andrew Kennedy: "The Newcastle fans chants of 'next year we're champions' are met with humour by the home crowd, who afford their visitors a round of applause for such optimistic chanting."

'Commentator's curse' there. Two very good chances for Chelsea as Cole found his way behind the defence before trying to find Drogba when he should've shot, and then immediately after Terry almost put an Ivanovic cross in the back of the net. But neither was to be and the score remains 1-1.
  • 74'
The home side are getting possession in decent areas and knocking the ball around nicely, but the final ball is what is lacking. They are yet to have a golden opportunity.
  • 73'
    Yellow CardDanny Simpson
  • 71'
Drogba takes a free-kick out on the right wing, and despite looking dreadful at first, it ends up being a fantastic ball as it goes straight across the front of the goal, but no one gambled on it and it goes out for a goal-kick.

Chelsea certainly look more urgent since the changes. But aside from the goal, Newcastle have defended very well when needed to today with Coloccini impressing in particular.

A signal of intent from Ancelotti as he brings on Drogba, Malouda and Essien with Benayoun, McEachran and Ramires making way.
  • 61'
Another chance for Newcastle! Another Ryan Taylor free-kick causes problems as he attempts to find the near-post from his left-wing set-piece, but if Ameobi had got the slightest of touches, it could have gone in, but Cech managed to get down well.
  • 60'
    Yellow CardBranislav Ivanovic
  • 59'
Newcastle are really having a go now. They can sense Chelsea's growing frustration. Gutierrez again at the fore as he attacks Ivanovic, cuts inside onto his right foot before attempting to curl the ball round Cech, but the big Czech saved well.
  • 58'
    Yellow CardFrank Lampard
  • 57'
A rare second-half attack from Newcastle. Simpson crossed from the right with Gutierrez meeting it with his head in the box, but the attempt was fairly poor and looped towards Cech who beat Ferguson and Ameobi to the ball.
  • 53'
Decent chance for Chelsea there as Ashley Cole heads wide. Ivanovic put in a brilliant cross from the right but Cole looked to find the goal from the tight angle, but his attempt took a deflection and went out for a corner.
  • 50'
Good defending again by Coloccini. This time on Torres as the Spaniard ran on to a good lofted pass by McEachran, but once getting the ball under control, the Argentine put a toe in and dispossessed the £50m man.
  • 49'
Chance for Anelka! McEachran's long range shot was blocked but fell towards the Frenchman in the Newcastle box but he was put under pressure by Coloccini and his shot was poor.
  • 47'
Chelsea will need to much more decisive in the second half if they want to get the three points in this match and they need to carve open more opportunities too.
  • 46'
We're back underway at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea kick off.
  • It's halftime at Stamford Bridge as the two sides go into the break level at 1-1. Newcastle and Alan Pardew will be very pleased with their performance in the first 45 with them at no point coming under severe pressure and have resisted the temptation to camp in their own box.
  • 45' + 2'
    Yellow CardRamires
  • 44'
Some good defending by Cole there! Newcastle looked to catch Chelsea on the counter attack. Shane Ferguson took the ball down the left before cutting back onto his right foot on the goal-line and his cross looked to be heading towards Lovenkrands, but Cole nudged into the Dane ever so slightly resulting in the ball going out for a goal-kick.
  • 43'
Chelsea putting on a bit more pressure as we approach the halftime whistle. Anelka is trying to take the game to Newcastle, but he can't do it all himself with Torres not offering much.
  • 40'
Cech gets away with some sloppy passing as the big shot-stopper tried to play a smart pass whilst selling Gutierrez a dummy, but his pass goes straight to Ferguson who attempts to link-up with Enrique, but the Spaniard's cross is collected easily by Cech.
  • 37'
Ironic cheers from the home faithful as referee Lee Mason gives a free-kick to Chelsea for a Coloccini foul on Benayoun.
  • 35'
The Chelsea fans are getting frustrated now, and Andrew Kennedy explains why: "Growing discontent is being expressed towards Lee Mason from the Chelsea fans on my right hand side, who direct a foul mouthed tirade at the referee as a number of contentious decisions go in the away sides favour."
  • 33'
Chances have been few and far between so far at Stamford Bridge with the majority of the match being played in the midfield with both sides exchanging possession on a regular basis.
  • 30'
The youngster McEachran who is making his first Premier League start today has been impressive so far. Possesses great passing abilty and is linking up nicely with Lampard.
  • 27'
So close for Chelsea! Young McEachran played a delightful ball for Cole to latch onto down the left before the full-back crossed into the box, but what looked like would be a simple clearance for Enrique almost turned into disaster as the Spaniard smashed the ball against Ryan Taylor and it went just wide.
  • 26'
Newcastle certainly look like they could pose a threat as an attacking sense. Lovenkrands' pace looks to be something the Magpies are trying to exploit, but the final ball has let them down more often that not.
  • 23'
Newcastle are certainly not holding on for the lives here. Chelsea have had more possession and looking to attack more, but that is what you would expect from the home side. However, they aren't getting enough opportunities and Newcastle look quite comfortable, certainly for the moment anyway.
  • 20'
Chelsea looking to attack once again. Torres and Lampard are showing some decent link-up play as they exchange passes on the left side of the penalty area, but Lampard's cross takes a wicked deflection, and despite nearly wrong-footing Krul in the Newcastle net, the big Dutchman gathers the ball.
  • 19'
Here's an update from Andrew: "Joey Barton takes advantage of a brief break in play to come over to manager Alan Pardew and verify the away sides tactics. According to the Newcastle captain fellow central midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has been neglecting some of his duties, something he was quick to correct the Argentine on."
  • 17'
Newcastle have a free-kick on the edge of their own penalty area after Ramires fouled Simpson and Enrique. TV replays also show the Brazilian international went in with both feet raised. He's a lucky boy there.
  • 13'
That goal will be a blow for Chelsea as they were looking good in the opening ten minutes, but there was nothing they could've done about that goal, a sheer fluke. But Newcastle will be over the moon with that. Every goal's a goal.

More words from Mr. Kennedy at Stamford Bridge: "Jubilation from the geordie away contingent as Ryan Taylors free-kick deflects off Jonas Gutierrez and into the back of the net to give Newcastle United an unexpected foot back into the game."
  • 10'
GOAL FOR NEWCASTLE!!! From the resulting free-kick, Ryan Taylor blasted it towards goal but the shot took a huge deflection off Jonas Guiterrez and trickled into the net. Game on!

Poor defensive play by Alex there. Barton looked for a through ball to Lovekrands as the Dane looked to get behind the defence, but Alex intercepted it, attempting to pass short to Terry, but his pass was all wrong and Terry ended up hacking down the Dane.

Chelsea knocking the ball about confidently at the moment. Ivanovic has already caused the Newcastle defence several headaches with his marauding runs.

GOAL!!!!! Chelsea take an early lead at Stamford Bridge! They already look as though they are playing with a weight taken off their shoulders. Lampard whipped a corner in from the left and Torres got a near-post flick on to Ivanovic who made no mistake from a couple of yards out.
  • 1'
And we're underway at Stamford Bridge!
  • Andrew also has an atmosphere update, confirming as almost perculiar vibe around the stadium: There is an inevitable end of season feel to proceedings today at Stamford Bridge as the Chelsea Supporters club present their player of the season award to defender Branislav Ivanovic. Add to that the fact the Stadium Announcer is currently donning a David Luiz style whig on the pitch, one has to hope the players on the pitch take this game more seriously than a meander in the park.
  • And here is what he said about the Newcastle side: Newcastle boss Alan Pardew will no doubt be pleased his side are comfortably safe on the penultimate day of the Premier League season, with a host of injuries beginnning to take a clear toll on his side. Captain Kevin Nolan misses out due to ankle surgery, with the Magpies forced to switch to a 4-5-1 formation that sees Jonas Gutierrez and Ryan Taylor join Joey Barton in the centre of the park. Shola Ameobi is set to lead the line, whilst his brother Sammy features on the bench.
  • Our man at Stamford Bridge, Andrew Kennedy, has given his thoughts on both teams. Here's what he made of the Chelsea line-up: Carlo Ancelotti recalls Fernando Torres and Nicolas Anelka to the Chelsea starting XI this afternoon, with Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda dropping to the bench. Brazilian duo Alex and Ramires also replace David Luiz and John Obi Mikel respectively, the two changes echoing the ones made at half time in last Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
  • The Newcastle team is: Krul; Simpson, Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Enrique; Gutierrez, Barton, Ryan Taylor, Ferguson; Ameobi, Lovenkrands Substitutes: Soderberg, Tavernier, Smith, LuaLua, Sammy Ameobi, Ranger, Kuqi
  • The Chelsea team for the match is as follows: Cech; Ivanovic, Terry, Alex, Cole; Ramires, Lampard, McEachran; Anelka, Torres, Benayoun Substitutes: Turnbull, Ferreira, David Luiz, Essien, Mikel, Malouda, Drogba
