Nothing he could do about the goal from Ari as the English stopper was left cruelly exposed by Izaguirre. Other than that he was more than capable at dealing with what the Russian side had to offer.
The Honduran was great going forward, but when he was defending he was horrible, getting caught out badly for Ari’s first-half goal. He was also found wanting, especially when McGeady came on and ran at him.
Was really good in the midfield for Celtic, as he showed his usual passing and movement as well as his set piece deliver that helped the home side throughout.
Looked out of sorts as Emenike ran him ragged at times, with the centre-half failing to deal with his international teammate as he assisted Ari for the equaliser.
Also looked shaky at the back as he failed to deal with the threat of Emenike. However he did look better when dealing with the other attacking threats that the visitors had to offer.
Was the most dependable of the Celtic back line, the Swedish international offered composure at the back, as well as offering a threat going forward as he helped out Commons in front of him. Was eventually forced off in the second half due to a groin injury, was replaced by Matthews.
Covered almost every blade of the Celtic Park surface as he was willing to give everything for his side, whether it be running, passing or tackling. Eventually ran out of steam and was replaced by Lassad as the Hoops went in search of the winner.
Didn’t look comfortable in the right-wing role as he was constantly forced to turn inside on his favoured left foot, which gave the opposition more time to put in a tackle. But the Scotland international showed amazing composure to slam the penalty into the net.
Showed his commitment to the club by delaying the hip surgery that he requires and didn’t let the pain affect him as he was a constant menace to the visitors, willing to put in a tackle at any time. Eventually made way for Ledley late on.
Always rises to the occasion for the Scottish champions when it comes to Champions League nights. Showed his usual great touch and control, as well as vision. Managed to win the penalty from Suchy late on.
Offered little for the home side, but when he was required, he was alert enough to get on the end of a mistake by Insaurralde to open the scoring.
Looked confident throughout, especially with his handling from crosses, as the giant keeper was able to cling onto a lot of what the home side delivered into his penalty area. Made a world class save from Mulgrew to keep the sides level, but could do nothing about Commons' penalty.
Made a huge mistake to hand Celtic the opener as he failed to properly deal with a through-pass from Samaras, allowing Hooper to score.
Wasn’t as troubled as he would have expected with Samaras moving more towards the left-wing. But eventually was found out by the Greek late on as he brought the striker down to give Celtic a penalty.
Was exposed a lot by Samaras as the Greek forward positioned himself on the left-hand side with both Mulgrew and Izaguirre, which saw the full-back get swamped at times.
Got forward a lot, providing crosses into the box for the front players. Was also capable when asked to defence and look after Commons.
Was steady in the centre of midfield, guarding his back four. Looked to break down any attempts by Celtic to get beyond him.
Tried to get forward as much as possible and offered support to Emenike, as well as trying to get on the score sheet himself.
The lynchpin in the Spartak Moscow midfield, he started most of the creative forward moves for the Russian side. Made some silly challenge though, the last of which saw him get sent off.
Used his power and pace to get beyond both Ambrose and Wilson time and time again. Was at the middle of the superb move that helped Ari score just before half-time.
Was good at times when he was allowed to. However he did find Kayal a handful when the Celtic midfielder looked to get on top of him.
Done well to score just before half-time, but the forward didn’t offer enough for his side, as he misplaced too many of his passes and was careless with some of his chances. Was replaced by McGeady.
