Bluesbirds scored in either half as the Welsh side battled to a famous victory to heap more pressure on the under-fire Rovers boss

Goals from Kenny Miller and Anthony Gerrard put Cardiff through to the League Cup semi-finals in a famous night in south Wales.

The Bluebirds battled for ninety minutes to frustrate their Premier League opponents, who were unable to get a foothold in the game and rarely threatened to upset the hosts’ evening.

Miller put the Welsh side in front after twenty minutes, slotting home from inside the box with his left foot after Aaron Gunnarson’s cut-back.

Blackburn rallied in the ensuing moments, with Tom Heaton twice denying Grant Hanley from close range,  but they struggled to make any significant headway as the hosts tried to press home the advantage.

Miller then came within inches of doubling his side’s advantage, but he could only hit the post from inside the six-yard box.

Clearly angered by their first half showing, Steve Kean's team-talk saw his players back out nearly five minutes early. And whatever he may have said, it seemed to have had the desired effect, as Heaton was tested once more as he tipped over a Morten Gamst-Pedersen corner kick.

But just as Blackburn seemed to be gaining some momentum in the match, the hosts doubled their advantage. Peter Whittingham’s in-swinging corner was headed on by Ben Turner, and a combination of Filip Kiss and Gerrard steered the ball home from close range.

Rovers tried to rally, with David Goodwillie twice being denied by Heaton and a Gerrard block, as Cardiff continued to chase every ball and upset their Premier League visitors.

But the visitors started to look more and more deflated, with Cardiff seeming the more likely to score, with Whittingham pulling the strings in midfield and Miller a constant thorn in Blackburn’s rearguard.

Naughton almost capped an excellent run with his first goal in three years, but his shot fizzed wide of the post after he burst into the area.

Blackburn brought on Yakubu and Jason Roberts, but were ultimately frustrated by their tenacious opponents, who held on for a famous result.
