Bolton Wanderers - Everton Preview: Owen Coyle's men looking to climb out of the relegation zone

Although history may be in favour of David Moyes' side, the Trotters could pick up their third consecutive home win against the Merseyside opponents on Saturday

Owen Coyle is still struggling to put together a full squad of 18 players following an injury-ravaged start to the 2011-12 campaign, but his men are slowly returning.

Dedryck Boyata, on-loan from Manchester City, may be able to make a return following his ankle injury, however the young Belgian will likely face final examinations on Friday. Meanwhile, Mikel Alonso looks set to miss out once again.

Despite the potential return of Boyata, Coyle must still contend without Ricardo Gardner, Tyrone Mears, Chung-Yong Lee, Stuart Holden, Sean Davis, Sam Ricketts and the aforementioned Alonso.

David Moyes has considerably less to worry about on the injury front with Victor Anichebe the only player definitely ruled out, while Sylvain Distin (groin), Phil Neville (hamstring) and Jack Rodwell (ribs) could return following their respective knocks.

Phil Jagielka has also been noted as doubt, but the England defender is likely to start once again after having injections in his foot to see off a knock.

  •  Bolton Wanderers have won the last two meetings between the sides at the Reebok, beating the visitors 2-0 back in February and 3-2 in October 2009.
  • Owen Coyle’s side have let in 17 goals at home this season, worse than any other team in the Premier League.
  • Ivan Klasnic (pictured right) has scored six league goals so far this season, double what Everton’s entire strike-force has managed.
  • The Trotters have lost seven of their last eight home matches. They won the other game, which turned out to be a 5-0 victory over Stoke City.
  • Out of the last 10 matches played out between the sides, Everton have picked up six victories.
  • Fifty three per cent of Everton’s goals this term have come in the last 15 minutes of their matches.
  • The Toffees have managed to score just 13 goals so far this season, with only four teams netting fewer.
  • The last time these two sides played out a 0-0 draw was back in December 2002.
  • Everton have hardly impressed on the road recently, losing five of their previous eight excursions. During that time, they also won twice and picked up a draw.

The Croatian striker has been in relatively good form this term given how poor his team-mates have performed as a whole. The 32-year-old forward will likely be key to Bolton if they are to steer themselves away from the relegation zone, and he is also the player who will have to put in a strong showing if the Trotters are to grab a win.

The Netherlands international has made an encouraging start to life in the Premier League and has not looked out of place in the slightest. So far, the loan-signing has two goals and three assists despite starting only thrice, and the visitors will look to him to create goal scoring opportunities.

Editor's Prediction

Aside from their recent win over Stoke City, Bolton have been dire at home this season. But on the other side of the fence, Everton have not been much better on the road.

Even so, David Moyes’ men have more than enough ability to come away with a win, and they should be able grab three points in what will likely be a tight encounter.
