What a match! Disappointing result for Milan, who, as already mentioned, could have climbed above Juventus and into top spot. But, to be honest, I think they were quite fortunate in some ways to have come away with a draw. A lot of big calls - the Seedorf handball, the Ibrahimovic penalty - went their way today. As for Bologna, they'll be frustrated but, ultimately, delighted to have picked up a most unexpected of points.
90' + 5'
After more great hold-up play from Di Vaio, the referee blows his whistle and brings an end to an absorbing contest. Terrific game and one with so many talking points. Bologna 2-2 AC Milan.
90' + 3'
Wonderful piece of skill from Kone, who scoops the ball over Antonini, before Silva then puts Amelia under pressure. Milan looking very nervy.
90' + 2'
Yellow Card Luca Antonini
More great work from Di Vaio, who wins a free kick on the left-hand side of the Milan box. The subsequent set-piece comes to nothing, though.... The fourth official has just informed us that we are to have five added minutes! Groans from the home fans!
And Bologna threaten a winner on the break, with Bologna stepping inside past a couple of Milan defenders before seeing his goalbound effort blocked by Bonera. What a crucial intervention!
Abate has become Milan's principal attacking outlet. This time the full-back combines nicely with Robinho before firing over a low cross which Gillet does well to hold on to.
Pioli can see that his side is being overrun at the moment so he throws Cherubin on for Diamanti. It's all about hanging on now for Bologna.
That aforementioned corner comes to nothing but moments later Ibra slips Abate in behind the Bologna defence. The fullback chips the ball over the advancing Gillet but the ball goes agonisingly across the face of the Bologna goal. Massive let-off for the hosts!
Good run from Abate and he earns Milan their ninth corner of the game. The visitors are desperate to claim the winner that would see them go top of the table.
Another penalty shout for Milan as Morleo handles in the box as Ibrahimovic attempted to volley the ball back across the box. That would have been harsh on Bologna given that Ibra was awarded one just a few months ago even though he didn't appear to have been touched at all!
Two changes to tell you about as Bologna replace Ramirez with Taider, while Milan throw Robinho on for Pato.
Yellow Card Diego Barrios
Perez picks up his eighth booking of the season after pulling down Antonini. Who didn't see that coming?!
Assist Diego Barrios
Goal Alessandro Diamanti
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL! Would you believe it?!!!!!!!! Bologna are level again!!!! Within a minute!!!! Diamanti picks the ball up in midfield, sells Thiago Silva a dummy before finding the bottom corner with a low strike from distance. Amelia really, really should have saved that but the home fans don't care!
Penalty Goal Zlatan Ibrahimovic
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL! Was there ever any doubt? Zlatan steps up to take the spot-kick and sends Gillet the wrong way to put Milan ahead.
PENALTY!!!!!!!!!!!! Ibrahimovic gives the ball away but then wins it back in the Bologna box before being taken down by Raggi. There's controversy, though, as Pato was offside in the build-up.
After Aquilani flashes a header wide from a corner from the right, Milan make another change, sending Emanuelson on for Seedorf.
Kone brilliantly controls a ball over his shoulder before squaring the ball across the box but Milan clear.
Yepes has had some ice put on his ankle so maybe there was more to that change that met the eye. Not good news for Milan given that Nesta is out until the new year and Mexes has yet to convince.
Milan make a change, sending Bonera on for Yepes, who, remember, was on a booking. Smart play by Allegri.
Seedorf picks out Ibra in the box. The Swede controls and then lays the ball off for Aquilani, who, quite ingeniously, dummies the ball... FOR ABSOLUTELY NOBODY!
Yellow Card Alessandro Diamanti
Diamanti is booked for bundling over Aquilani, although, in fairness, it was probably more for persistent fouling/whining.
Another big shout for a penalty as Ramirez goes down under pressure from Yepes. Not sure there was a foul there that time, to be honest; looked like Ramirez just miscued.
Fine play from Diamanti, who cuts inside on to his right foot and fires a shot just over the bar. Good incisive play. Bologna have had the better of the early stages of the second half, no doubt about that.
Yellow Card Mario Yepes
Yepes is booked for rather hilariously deciding that he couldn't be bothered chasing Ramirez, preferring instead to just push the Bologna No.10 over right in front of the ref.
Not really happening for Pato today, it has to be said. The Brazilian's just played the ball straight into touch. He's under a fair bit of pressure with the Rossoneri currently doing their utmost to sign Carlos Tevez and he's not rising to the challenge.
Free kick for Bologna in a dangerous position on the left-hand side of the Milan box. It's laid back for Morleo, though, and the less said about his atrocious effort the better!
SO CLOSE FOR BOLOGNA!!! Mudingayi bounds forward and sprays the ball out to Di Vaio, who had drifted out to the left. The forward shifts the ball onto his right foot before seeing his measured strike strike the outside of the Milan post. So unlucky. What a game Di Vaio's having, though!
Bologna with the kick-off and the second half is underway. Bologna have thrown off Perez for Casarini.
Just to let you know that amidst all the choas, Kone picked up a yellow for taking his protest too far. Bologna's outrage was understandable, though. No doubt the ball struck Seedorf on the arm and, worse till, he appeared to move his arm towards the inswinging free. Plenty to discuss during the break. Join us back here in 15 minutes for the second half.
Yellow Card Panagiotis Kone
And that's half-time, with whistles ringing around the Stadio dell'Ara. It's one goal apiece but Bologna should have had the opportunity to change that from the penalty spot just before the break.
BOLOGNA ARE FURIOUS! Diamanti swings the ball over from the left-hand side and the ball clearly strikes Seedorf's arm. Bologna surround the referee but to no avail. What a let-off for the Rossoneri!
It's getting a bit niggly now. First Van Bommel appears to be caught late by Diamanti and then Di Vaio is taken out from behind. Referee waves play on, though, which only serves to spice things up further.
Diamanti on the deck at the moment and he's not happy with Abate at all. Not sure why, though. There was a coming together, admittedly, but the Milan full-back was not guilty of anything malicious but that's not stopped Diamanti playing the victim. Much ado about nothing, as far as I can see.
Boateng threatens once more but his well-struck drive from 25 yards out is well held by Gillet. For my money, the former Portsmouth ace has been Milan's standout performer thus far.
Half chance for Aquilani as the ball comes his way in the box but the midfielder is slow off the mark and allows his marker to clear. Milan's sixth corner of the game comes to nothing, though.
More panic in the Bologna area as Milan swing over a free from the right-hand side of the box but Gillet is brave and he dives on the loose ball with two Milanese players lurking on the six-yard box.
Yellow Card Alberto Aquilani
Terrific move from Bologna, with Ramirez heavily involved, and Silva is forced to cut out Diamanti's inviting ball across the face of the box. Aquilani is then booked moments later for a mistimed challenge on the former West Ham United man.
Boateng again to the fore as he controls on his chest wide on the right and lobs the ball into the path of Abate, whose subsequent volley is parried away by Gillet. Bologna living dangerously.
Pato tries his luck with the resulting free kick but his effort deflects wide off the wall. Quite surprised Zlatan let his strike partner take that one given the Swede had struck the bar with Milan's previous free kick within shooting range!
Bit silly from Ramirez there as he talks himself into a booking after obstructing Van Bommel as the Dutchman tried to control a clearance.
Yellow Card G. Ramírez
Di Vaio's well-timed runs in behind the Milan defence is causing all sorts of problems. Indeed, the Italian remains a real goal threat and just flashed a drive wide of Amelia's post after causing more chaos in the Milan box.
Boateng's having a major influence on this game, dropping deep to pick up the ball and then make things happen. Moments ago, he put Aquilani away down the right but the Italian's cross was cut out. From the resulting corner, Boateng fired high and wide when the ball dropped to him on the edge of the box.
Milan really purring now! A wonderful attacking move involving Boateng, Pato and finall Ibrahimovic eventually ends with Crespo being forced to clear the ball out for a corner while facing his own goal.
Assist Kevin-Prince Boateng
Goal C. Seedorf
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL! WHAT A RESPONSE FROM MILAN!!! Boateng skips past one man in midfield before slipping the ball into Seedorf, who finds the top corner with a sensational left-footed strike from just outside the box. Brilliant goal from the Dutchman!
Aquilani down for a moment but it's nothing serious. Just looking at the goal again, Milan were caught so high up the field and Thiago Silva completely lost Di Vaio. Shocking defending from the visitors!
Assist Alessandro Diamanti
Goal Marco Di Vaio
GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL! AND IT'S GONE TO BOLOGNA!!!! Di Vaio latches on to a wonderful ball over the top and lobs the ball over the advancing Amelia and into the Milan net. Terrific finish from the veteran striker, who was taken out just after shooting.
To be fair, though, Bologna are looking pretty nippy on the counter. Diamanti crossed from the right a moment ago and very nearly found Di Vaio but Thiago Silva managed to head clear.
The crossbar still shaking after that thumping free kick from Ibrahimovic and Milan still dominating possession. Ominous for the home side.
SO CLOSE FOR MILAN!!! The corner is cleared but the visitors eventually earn themselves a free kick on the left-hand side of the box. Zlatan steps up to take it and smacks the ball off the top of the crossbar. Stunning strike! And it really warranted a goal!
Away we go and Milan immediately threatening, with Ibrahimovic earning the visitors an early corner with his attempted cross from the right-hand side.
Right, we're just about ready to roll at a fairly nippy Stadio dall'Ara.
With Serie A league leaders Juventus not in action until tomorrow night against Roma, Milan can go top with a win here today. They’re heavy favourites to do just that against a Bologna side languishing in 17th in the table but the hosts picked up a morale-boosting win over Siena last weekend and also performed gamely against Juventus in the Coppa Italia during the week.
Miakel Antonsson again misses out for Bologna so there is another start for Jose Crespo at right-back. As for Milan, they arrive shorn of the services of Christian Abbiati, Antonio Nocerino and Alessandro Nesta among others. Mario Yepes will again partner Thiago Silva at the back, while Marco Amelia continues in goal. Mark Van Bommel has been passed fit to start in midfield alongside Clarence Seedorf and Alberto Aquilani, who sat out the midweek draw with Viktoria Plzen.
As for the visitors…. AC MILAN (4-3-2-1): Amelia; Abate, Thiago Silva, Yepes, Antonini; Aquilani, Van Bommel, Seedorf; Boateng; Pato, Ibrahimovic.
The two line-ups are in so let’s start with the home side…. BOLOGNA (4-3-2-1): Gillet; Crespo, Raggi, Portanova, Morleo; Casarini, Mudingayi, Kone; Ramirez; Diamanti, Di Vaio.
