Live Commentary

  • Full-time at Ewood Park and it's a glorious day for Manchester United as they seal a record 19th league title. Rooney's penalty sealed the vital point, although it came after much deliberation by referee Phil Dowd, but Blackburn will be disappointed that they didn't secure their Premier League safety after having the better of the chances.
  • 90'
Three minutes of added time for United to keep the ball
  • 87'
Still time for some indecision by Kuszczak, who comes for a ball but is lucky to see Ferdinand get there first and dribble to safety
  • 86'
Both sides are just keeping possession just trying to waste the clock down
  • 82'
The fast pace of the match has died down a bit, with United not needing to score again. Blackburn could still need a goal though for their own survival chances
  • 81'
    SubstitutionNani D. Berbatov
  • 80'
Berbatov, who scored five times in the reverse fixture, comes on as United try and see out the rest of the match
  • 77'
    SubstitutionChristopher Samba Keith Andrews
  • 75'
That should have been the title wrapped up. Rooney's drilled cross from the right is met by Nani five yards out in front of goal, but he makes such little contact that it drifts wide
  • 74'
    Yellow Card Michel Salgado
  • 74'
    SubstitutionJones David Dunn
  • 73'
    Assist Javier Hernández
  • 73'
    Penalty Goal Wayne Rooney
  • 73'
Dowd was surrounded by players of both sides before giving the penalty. There was definite contact by Robinson and despite having the better of the match, things are not looking good now for Blackburn
  • 69'
Goal! Incredible drama! Hernandez mis-controls a long pass, but he gets there before Robinson who brings him down, although he kicked the ball out for a goal-kick. Phil Dowd spends ages talking to the linesman, before pointing to the spot. Rooney smashes it in to his left with Robinson diving the other way.
  • 67'
Rooney puts in another cross for the away side, but like most of the others they are easily cleared
  • 65'
Post! So close for Blackburn. Emerton crosses from the right and Olsson jumps over Valencia and heads it against the post. Another cross from the same place is then flicked on by Ferdinand just wide as the hosts push for the second goal which could secure their safety
  • 63'
He's only been on for a minute, but Scholes just avoids a booking for fouling Pedersen
  • 62'
    SubstitutionFabio Da Silva Paul Scholes
  • 61'
Scholes is brought on for Fabio as United continue to press
  • 60'
The ball falls to Giggs in the box after a Valencia cross, but Phil Jones makes a great sliding block to stop the Welshman from levelling the scores. The two Blackburn centre-backs have been excellent so far
  • 59'
    SubstitutionJunior Hoilett M. Pedersen
  • 59'
Pedersen comes in for Hoillet, then Nani has a shot blocked by Samba. The corner comes to nothing
  • 57'
More unconvincing play by Kuszczak and Samba nearly connects with a header in the area, but the goalkeeper just about manages to scramble it away
  • 54'
More pressure, but Blackburn defend well. Kuszczak has another back-pass, but this time he deals with it well
  • 50'
Hernandez finds a tiny amount of space in between Salgado and Samba, but his first touch from a Giggs pass is heavy and the chance is gone
  • 49'
Carrick works a bit of space outside the Blackburn box, but his shot is blocked by three diving bodies. Valencia then goes down in the area, but the free-kick goes against him as he fouled Givet
  • 47'
A scrappy start, with lots of fouls not allowing either side to get hold of the ball
  • 1'
    Blackburn get us underway second-half
  • Half time at Ewood Park and it's not going as planned for the visitors. They have had their chances and hit the bar through Nani, but Blackburn have more then matched them and on this performance they will be rightly staying up. Ferguson must be wondering whether it was the right decision to have played Tomasz Kuszczak, who has been tackled twice and looked nervy. There is no Van der Sar on the bench either
  • 44'
Rooney dummies to Hernandez, before they play a one-two, but Phil Jones makes a great last ditch tackle before the Mexican could shoot. The ball comes out to Nani who tries to curl it around Robinson but he spoons it over the bar
  • 43'
Nani creates a yard of space against Salgado, but his back-post cross is flicked away from the on-rushing Valencia. Rooney then tries to chip the goalkeeper from the right-edge of the penalty area, but it drifts harmlessly over
  • 39'
Sir Alex Ferguson might regret dropping Van der Sar. Kuszczak dallies on the ball, before noticing Hoillet coming in from the right. He hurriedly tries to clear but is slide tackled and is fortunate to see the ball spin wide
  • 37'
    Yellow Card Steven N'Zonzi
  • 37'
Almost a spectacular goal from Blackburn. Salgado's cross-field ball is met on the volley by Olsson running in from the left-wing, but he volleys wide of the near-post. A minute later, Nani hits the ball just wide after he is incorrectly given offside
  • 36'
N'Zonzi is booked for a late challenge on Fabio
  • 34'
Hernandez picks the ball up on the edge of the box, before dribbling backwards then spinning around and hitting a low shot which Robinson tips wide. No clear cut openings yet for the lively Mexican
  • 31'
Rooney has a one on one versus Samba, but when he tries to go around the defender he is muscled off the ball, allowing Robinson to come out and collect
  • 30'
Crosses are coming in from both sides, but are well cleared. United try to break from a Blackburn attack, but there is no end product and the move fizzles out
  • 26'
The away side try to respond, but twice Fabio's pokes into the box are met by Blackburn players. The game has evened up now after the early pressure from United
  • 22'
There is some disagreement on whether the ball had gone out just before Olsson had crossed it, but it looks like there was a tiny bit of the ball which hadn't crossed the line. It was a good finish by the Australian though. A nervy performance so far by the United keeper
  • 20'
    Assist Martin Olsson
  • 20'
    Goal Brett Emerton
  • 20'
GOAL! The title isn't over yet. Kuszczak makes a mess of an attempted chip by Emerton and the ball is crossed first-time by Olsson back to Emerton who hits it back across goal and into the net
  • 19'
    Yellow Card Jones
  • 18'
A long free-kick by Robinson into the United box is scored well by Samba but he has fouled Vidic. Moments later, Kuszczak is not sure whether to pick the ball up or not from a back-pass and is tackled by Roberts, but luckily Ferdinand is there to cover and get the ball away
  • 16'
Figures show the visitors have had 75% of the possession, but both sides have had one good chance each so far
  • 14'
Blackburn are going to be doing a lot of chasing if the pattern of the match continues. Rooney is popping up everywhere in their half looking for space
  • 12'
One-touch football by the away side, with Rooney at the heart of everything, but Samba is quick enough to get to a Giggs through ball before Hernandez
  • 10'
A great chance for Samba. After a Blackburn corner comes out to Hoillet, he dribbles in to the United box and his cross comes to the big defender who can only volley over from around 10 yards out
  • 7'
Some lovely inter-play around the Blackburn box earns United a corner, which is not cleared convincingly. Just after, Nani cuts in from the left but shoots wide of the near post
  • 4'
Crossbar! Giggs wins the ball back for United and the ball is worked wide to Rooney whose cross is headed against the crossbar by Nani. A couple of inches taller and he would have got on top of that
  • 2'
The visitors with all the early possession, but Blackburn are not giving them any room
  • 1'
United get us underway, but no sign of a 36 second goal this time
  • The teams are out and kick-off is moments away
  • Sir Alex Ferguson is adamant that his side will secure their draw, but Blackburn are equally desperate for points. The away side have Jonny Evans in at left-back because of injuries to Patrice Evra and John O'Shea and they bring in Nani for Park. Tomasz Kuszczak comes in for Edwin Van der Sar. The hosts are able to partner with Chris Samba with Phil Jones and Michel Salgado comes in at right-back
