Chance for Chelsea! Cole finds space on the left and his cross is diverted into the path of Malouda but his shot is charged down by the resilient Villa defence who just dont want to concede today.

Chelsea are definitely trying to force the issue now with so little of the game left, but the Villa defence is holding firm although there seem to be a lot of tired bodies out there on the pitch for the home side.

Anelka is looking the most likely to score for the visitors after another chance for the striker. Malouda takes on three Villa defenders, using his pace to beat them all and feeds the ball to Anelka, but his curling shot is wide.

After good play by Cole and Ramires on the left, the ball is played into the path of Malouda but his cross is caught by Friedel

Another chance for Chelsea but Anelka's shot is blocked by his team mate Mikel. Then just moments later substitute Zhirkov produces a low cross on the left that is touched on by the foot of Villa defender Clark then gathered by Friedel.
Villa have now settled down in the second half and are stringing some nice passes together although as soon as they get to the halfway line they seem to lack ideas.
Good play by Chelsea again as Mikel sends a long ball into the path of Anelka and the French striker uses great skill to unleash a powerful shot that is saved by Friedel
Chelsea are dominating possession at the moment as Villa strugle to get out of their own half. But the visitors cannot find that important first goal.
A half hearted appeal by Chelsea as the ball strikes the elbow of Villa defender Clark, then Malouda forces Friedel into a smart save. Chelsea have started on the front foot here.

Kakuta does well on the left and plays in Cole but Villa defender Beye blocks the cross. Malouda swings in another corner and it is met by Kakuta but his half volley lands in the top tier of the stand.
Half hour gone and the game is anybody's at the moment. Villa started the brighter of the sides and Stephen Ireland had a great chance to score but Chelsea have settled now and dominating posession.
Chelsea looked to have improved their passing and Malouda lets loose Anelka down the left but the ball cannons of a Villa player for a corner. However from the set-play the ball is headed away but the home defence.
After a frantic opening to the game, the pace has dramatically slowed, as both teams are struggling to maintain possession of the ball at the moment.
Villa are still looking to create the Chelsea defence all sorts of problems and Petrov hits a shot that flies just wide of Cech's post.

Chelsea are lookign very out of sorts in the early stages as Carew finds a way through The Blues defence by Ferreira is there to clear the danger.
Aston Villa have started the brighter and Downing takes on Ashley Cole before feeding in Ireland who sees his shot just fly wide of the post. Good chance for the home side.
