  • Arsenal were much improved in the second half and gave Manchester City a run for their money, but in reality the damage was done in the first half. The early sending off of Koscielny made the difference; despite Dzeko's missed penalty the visitors raced away into a two-goal lead. Kompany was unfortunate to see red late in the second half, but the champions looked to have secured the result by then.

It's been all Arsenal since Kompany's sending off made it 10 v 10. Lescott's introduction has sured up the visitor's defence and they look good to hold out for all three points.

Into the last 10 minutes and the Arsenal fans are making a real racket. The Gunners have shown real endeavour in this second half but haven't been able to make it count with the numerical disadvantage up until Kompany's sending off.

It looks a harsh one! The City captain went in strong on Jack Wilshere, who didn't pull out of the challenge himself, but the Belgian got a whole lot of the ball and can consider himself unlucky to see red.
  • 75'
    RED CARD FOR VINCENT KOMPANY!
  • 72'
    Yellow Card Gael Clichy
  • 72'
CHANCE! Giroud is unmarked in the box and gets on the end of Cazorla's free kick but the Frenchman is slightly under the ball and sends his header over the bar! Glorious chance to set up a frantic finish.

Great save from Szczesny to deny Tevez one-on-on! Arsenal pushed forward leaving the front two in plenty of space, Silva found Dzeko who drew in a couple of defenders before switching it to his team-mate. The Argentine tried to go round the Arsenal keeper but the Pole managed to get a hand to the ball.
  • 68'
Bacary Sagna makes a great defensive header from Milner's cross to deny Edin Dzeko a chance to head at goal. City work the corner short, again, but Arsenal are wise to it this time and manage to clear.
  • 66'
Arsenal foray forward once more but can't penetrate City's back four. They eventually work a shooting chance for Cazorla, but his strike from range is curled high and wide.

Greg Stobart reports from the Emirates: "The crowd are doing their best to get Arsenal back in the game, raising the temperature in the stadium as the hosts show some commendable fight in the second-half. At the moment, they don’t look remotely like scoring but if, somehow, they are able to find a way back into the game, it could be set up for a dramatic finale."

  • 48'
It's a better start to the second half from the Gunners, Theo Walcott has twice been in behind the Manchester City defence in the opening period but has twice seen the linesman flag go up. Encouraging stuff from the hosts.

  • 46'
Arsenal take the kick-off to get the second half underway, can they somehow claw themselves back into this one?
  • The big talking point is the red card shown to Laurent Koscielny for his foul on Edin Dzeko in the box. The Frenchman hauled down the City forward a few yards from goal but whether or not it was a goalscoring chance is up for debate. Have your say right here: http://bit.ly/VDMWiO
  • What a nightmare of a half for Arsene Wenger. His side find themselves a man down, two goals down and completely devoid of belief.
  • HALF-TIME: Arsenal 0-2 Manchester City
  • 45' + 3'
Gibbs plays a ball down the left flank for Lukas Podolski and the German does well against Zabaleta to get in a cross but the ball only finds four City defenders waiting to clear in the box. Arsenal have it all to do in the second half.

  • 44'
OFF THE LINE! Jack Wilshere keeps Arsenal in sight by heading Javi Garcia's header off the goal line. The Spaniard was allowed to head at goal unchallenged from Milner's corner, the Gunners have been very abject in this first half.
  • 42'
After a lengthy delay, Wilshere floats in a menacing ball which Manchester City do well to clear. The Gunners stay on the attack, Diaby wriggles past Zabaleta but attempts an audacious shot from a tight angle.
  • 40'
Free kick to Arsenal as David Silva wrestles over Jack Wilshere about 30 yards from the goal in a central position. Slightly better from the hosts, they desperately need something before the break.
  • 38'
Manchester City knock the ball from right to left without any real purpose, this game has been subdued since Laurent Koscielny's sending off. But was Mike Dean right to send the Frenchman off? Have your say here: http://bit.ly/VDMWiO
  • 35'
Good moment for Arsenal. Abou Diaby drives towards the penalty area before slipping it through for Podolski. The German takes one touch to settle and strikes with his second, forcing a decent save out of Joe Hart.
  • 34'
The Emirates Stadium has fallen flat. Arsenal have a brief spell of possession but never really threaten to get in behind City.
  • 32'
    Goal Edin Dzeko
GOAL! Manchester City double their lead! James Milner gets away from Gibbs and drills a low ball across the face of the box. Tevez gets a touch on it at the near post which forces Szczesny to parry into the path of Dzeko, who simply touches it into an empty net.
  • 30'
Vermaelen wins the ball in defence and charges up the pitch before spraying a pass out to Theo Walcott. The 23-year-old peels off to the left but elects to cross with very little support arriving in the box. City regroup as the move breaks down.
  • 29'
Arsenal win a free kick to earn some respite and possibly test Hart, but Theo Walcott's delivery from the left flank is overhit and bypasses every one of his team-mates.
  • 27'
Chance for Garcia! Manchester City again play the corner short, Silva finds Barry who swings a left-footed cross in from deep and Garcia rises highest but fails to find the target. Decent opportunity for the Spaniard renown for his aerial ability.
  • 26'
Another corner for City and it again comes from Arsenal's sloppy passing in midfield. The Gunners continue to give the ball away needlessly.
  • 25'
Manchester City are well on top. They have the advantage numerically and on the scoreline and the belief is slowly being sucked out of the Gunners' players. Carlos Tevez is the latest to test Szczesny, his shot from just inside the area is hit right at the keeper, allowing him to catch easily.
  • 23'
Milner has another go at goal as no Arsenal player goes to close him down. His low right-footed shot across the face of goal isn't hit with any venom and it harmlessly trickles out for a goal kick.
  • 21'
    Assist Carlos Tévez
  • 21'

Hearts in mouths at the Emirates! Jack Wilshere stays down after a challenge with Garcia, the England midfielder is slow to get to his feet but it seems he is fit enough to continue.
  • 17'
Chance for Theo Walcott from the corner! Joe Hart is unconvincing as he elects to punch Cazorla#s delivery, it falls to the Englishman on the edge of the area but his effort is wild and sails over the bar.
  • 16'
Chance for Tevez to turn in Kompany's flick at the back post after a well worked corner between David Silva and James Milner. Arsenal go up the other end and Sagna does brilliantly to win the ball off Clichy before combining with Cazorla to earn a corner.
  • 14'
'You're not fit to referee' rings around the Emirates but to be fair to Mike Dean, he had very little choice in sending Koscielny off.
  • 13'
In amongst all that, Wenger has sacrificed Oxlade-Chamberlain, Per Mertesacker comes on for the Gunners to sit alongside Vermaelen.
  • 12'
    Substitution Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Per Mertesacker
  • 11'
MADNESS! First Koscielny gives away a penalty for pulling back Edin Dzeko in the area when the City striker was about to shoot. • 7'
Cazorla and Wilshere get a grip on the ball for the first time and Arsenal look in business. Oxlade-Chamberlain attempts to skip past Kompany as the Gunners push forward, good defending from the visitors.
  • 6'
Couple of dodgy goal kicks, first from Szczesny and then from Hart. Neither side has been able to settle on the ball in the opening minutes here.
  • 4'
First involvement from Diaby and he does well to hold possession under pressure from Garcia. Oxlade-Chamberlain later attempts a cross from the right-hand side but he hits it too flat and it doesn't trouble City.
  • 3'
Silva swings in the corner from the left but it fails to find a team-mate, allowing Theo Walcott to swing clear.
  • 2'
Manchester City attack down the left flank with David Silva and Gael Clichy combining but Lukas Podolski does well to track back and win the ball. Moments later Jack Wilshere goes shoulder to shoulder with Carlos Tevez, corner to City.
  • 1'
Manchester City take the kick-off and we are go go go!
  • The teams are emerging from the tunnel, it's a frosty night in north London but the atmosphere under the floodlights is red hot! Moments away from the big kick-off!
  • Goal.com's Greg Stobart in position at the Emirates: "There’s a banner in the away end here at the Emirates reading ‘£62 pounds, where will it stop?’ after City returned a third of their 3,000 allocation for today’s game as fans baulked at the admission cost. Presumably, the people with the banner did stump up for their tickets - and they will be hoping to see their side win a league game at Arsenal for the first time in 38 years this afternoon."
  • Ten points is the gap between City and United as things stand, title race over? Not a chance. Cast your mind back to this fixture last season, when a late Arteta strike was enough for a 1-0 win for the Gunners. City were eight points adrift then, with only six to play, we all know what happened next...
  • Roberto Mancini comes into the game without two of his most influential players. Sergio Aguero is still struggling with a hamstring picked up on New Years Day while Yaya Toure, along with brother Kolo, has jetted off for the African Cup of Nations. Javi Garcia and Matija Nastasic come in for the visitors.
  • Elsewhere for the Gunners, Per Mertesacker is replaced at the back by Thomas Vermaelen and Olivier Giroud is only fit enough to start on the bench, meaning another game for Theo Walcott as Arsenal's central striker.
  • The big news are far as Arsenal are concerned is that after almost four months out with injury, Abou Diaby starts against the Premier League champions, with ever present Mikel Arteta missing with injury. The Frenchman came through unscathed after an hour for the reserves during the week, but Arsene Wenger has taken a real gamble introducing the injury plagued midfielder in a game of this magnitude.
  • Manchester City: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy; Garcia, Barry, Milner; Tevez, Silva, Dzeko Subs: Lescott, Sinclair, Kolarov, Pantilimon, Suarez, Rekik, Balotelli.
  • Arsenal: Szczesny; Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Gibbs; Diaby, Wilshere, Cazorla; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Podolski, Walcott. Subs: Mannone, Jenkinson, Santos, Mertesacker, Ramsey, Coquelin, Giroud.
  • With Manchester United's 2-1 win over Liverpool earlier today, City go into this one a massive 10 points off top spot. Arsenal, meanwhile, could really do with a win themselves to reignite their push for a Champions League spot. Team news coming up...
