It took a spectacular effort to beat the Brazilian who made several sterling saves tonight, most notably against Cristiano Ronaldo straight after Almeria had taken the lead.
Played well, keeping Ozil quiet. Goal came from his side though and questions must be asked about his positioning.
Substituted early as Mourinho was about to change his formation. Up until coming off was brilliant, hardly beaten down the right side and provided attacking support when needed. Outstanding tackle to deny Ronaldo in the penalty box.
Much like his partner, strong when needed to be but had a tendency to give away free-kicks in dangerous positions.
Dominant in the air, but perhaps should have been closer to Benzema for the goal. Faultless display otherwise.
Nothing amazing from the captain, but moved the ball on to good effect and supplied pressure up the pitch.
Provided a threat on Casillas’ goal after seeing his 25-yard effort narrowly miss the post. Put Alonso and Khedira under pressure in the central midfield as well as keeping tabs on Kaka.
Used the ball well, and constantly hustled in the centre of the pitch. Looked to create going forward but slowed it down once too often.
Quiet performance from Uche. Looked and was willing but lacked anything to seriously trouble Madrid’s defence. Difficult playing up top on his own.
Was the heart and soul of each attack for Almeria, proven by his goal. Had an early shot save but closed Ramos and Albiol down well and was always looking for the ball.
His excellent run led to the opener. Prior to that had tested Casillas with a shot and headed just over. Went missing in the second half at times, but his speed and dribbling asked questions of the opposition defence on occasion.
Beaten by a good finish. Dealt with everything with a minimal amount of fuss.
Heated performance. Committed a lot of fouls. Played some stunning forward passes and brought the ball out of defence, a-la Carvalho. Missed two chances, one of which was a glorious opportunity which he would normally have scored.
Got forward to good effect, but found a determined Macedo to thwart him. Gave the ball away recklessly creating pressure against his side.
Weak link in Madrid’s defence and didn’t manage to win the ball cleanly from Piatti which gave Almeria their goal. Good in the air but nervous with anything else. Substituted.
Did not venture forward too much, but defensively was sound.
Some incredible dead ball deliveries gets Alonso bonus marks but other than that had a poor day by his standard. No defence-splitting passes, only one tame effort at goal – nothing majestic today.
Á. di María
Willing runner but lacks the same quality as others. Missed an easy chance to give Madrid the lead in the first half, had he scored it would have been a different game.
Not quite back to his best but showed signs of it today. Put Ronaldo in twice with delightful balls, each weighted to perfection. Substituted early because of fitness issues.
Pushed for time and space and was unable to deal with the intensity of Almeria’s midfield.
Provided width for Madrid but never truly tested. Had one occasion to really run at the Almeria defence but opted to pass square. Something was missing.
Ronaldo thew everything at this game today, but found Diego Alves in brilliant form. His efforts were topped in the dying minutes when he cracked a free-kick against the crossbar. Had everything, except the goal he deserved.

Defender for an attacker; with Almeria 1-0 up was sent on to ensure victory. Minute after introduction Madrid equalised but was hardly with the flow of the game. Worked hard to secure his side a well-earned point.
- 15 Corona
Came on and very nearly gave Almeria a two goal lead after fantastic control, but he just couldn’t get his shot away. Covered well and worked as a unit with his team.
- 10 José Ortiz
No time to make any impact.
- 13 Adán
With Albiol being put under immense pressure Carvalho came on to steady the ship. Almeria were limited to counters and the Portuguese man was able to snuff out any real danger.
- 16 Canales
Scored a cracking goal for the equaliser and continued to be involved coming from deep. Changed the game.
- 5 F. Gago
- 21 Pedro León
Assisted the goal but apart from that was nowhere to be seen. At a time where he really could have proved his worth to the side he bottled it.
