Player Ratings: Cheltenham 1-5 Everton

A professional performance from the Toffees sees them reach the fourth round and avoid an upset, with Baines scoring one and setting up another while Pack impressed for the hosts

    Scott Brown

Left exposed for the first goal with Jelavic having the easiest of finishes, and could do nothing about Baines' superb penalty or Osman's easy finish for the third.

Alan Bennett Flop of the Match

Almost punished for giving the ball away to Oviedo early on but recovered well to win it back before conceding a penalty for a clumsy challenge on Fellaini. Headed an effort wide in the second half but the Robins captain will be disappointed with his defensive display.

  • Billy Jones

    Billy Jones

Got forward well, supporting Mohamed, and was a key threat for the hosts with some excellent crosses, corners and free kicks. Less able to push forward in the second half

    Steven Elliott

Caught on his heels as Jelavic pounced for the opening goal, and struggled to cope with the aerial threat of Fellaini.

    Sido Jombati

Had a tough night dealing with the threat of Baines and Oviedo, but the Portuguese full-back looked up to the task and got forward to support McGlashan on occasion.

  • Darren Carter

    Darren Carter

Spurned an early chance after making poor contact, but was always in the right place and saw another couple of efforts go begging.

  • Jermaine McGlashan

    Jermaine McGlashan

Spent a lot of his time tracking back to help Jombati, but did make Baines work hard in defence and can be proud of his performance against the Premier League's best full-back.

  • Marlon Pack

    1
    3.50

    Marlon Pack

Started brightly, spreading the ball around well and regularly pushing forward to support Goulding up front. Saw one effort deflected over the bar but it was a hard-working performance and Pack was the source of much of Cheltenham's forays forward.

  • Russell Penn

    Russell Penn

Like Pack, came out of the traps quickly, determined to cause havoc in the middle of the park. Took his goal superbly with a cool low finish past Howard before drilling a long-range effort straight at the goalkeeper.

  • Jeff Goulding

    2.50

    Jeff Goulding

Was always likely to have an isolated evening on his own up front, but worked hard to make his presence felt by Everton's central defenders, despite not having much joy. Came off with 25 minutes to go after being replaced by Duffy.

  • Kaid Mohamed

    Kaid Mohamed

Showed good skill early on to set up a chance for Carter, and regularly drifted inside to add further threat through the middle.

    Sam Deering

Came on for the impressive McGlashan with 10 minutes remaining, showing some good touches and passing confidently.

  • Jake Taylor

    Jake Taylor

The on-loan Reading midfielder replaced Carter with just under 25 minutes to go, and saw a volleyed effort fly well off the target.

  • Darryl Duffy

    2.50

    Darryl Duffy

Replaced Goulding on 66 minutes and worked hard to keep up the pressure, but was unable to make an impact on the game as Everton monopolised possession.

  • Tim Howard
    6
    1
    3.00

    Tim Howard

Had relatively little to do throughout the game; Cheltenham's main threat was from set-pieces and he rarely came to collect, leaving it to the defenders to deal with the danger. May be disappointed to have been beaten at his near post by a fine low finish from Penn early in the second half.

  • Bryan Oviedo
    7
    1
    3.00

    Bryan Oviedo

Playing in a more advance role ahead of Baines and the two worked well together, with the Costa Rica international throwing some dangerous crosses into the Cheltenham penalty area. Shifted to full-back when Gueye replaced Baines.

  • Leighton Baines

    3.50

    Leighton Baines

Yet another fine performance from the England international, scoring from the spot before setting up Osman for the third. Forced a fine save from Brown with a curling free kick before slotting his penalty neatly into the left corner. Had his work cut out with McGlashan but overall held firm.

  • Phil Jagielka

    2.50

    Phil Jagielka

Caught out a couple of times early on as Goulding tried his best to impose himself on Everton's back line, but was rarely tested for the remainder of the match and was able to support a couple of attacks.

  • Sylvain Distin

    Sylvain Distin

The Frenchman has been in fine form in recent weeks, and looked focused as he aimed to ensure the Robins couldn't cause an upset. Nearly caught out by McGlashan early on but apart from that it was a comfortable evening.

  • Leon Osman

Leon Osman Top of the Match

Came up against a determined Cheltenham midfield but showed the quality and calmness which has seen him become part of the England set-up. Got on the scoresheet with some fine footwork and an easy finish before coming off with just over 20 minutes remaining.

  • Marouane Fellaini

    3.00

    Marouane Fellaini

The Belgium international looked sharp throughout, inadvertently notching an assist off the post with a beautiful curling strike which Jelavic bundled in from the rebound, and saw a couple of other efforts miss the target before grabbing Everton's fifth late on with an easy finish.

  • Phil Neville

    Phil Neville

Solid performance from the Toffees captain, but it was a fairly easy night for the midfielder, especially after the penalty, then later on the fourth goal, all but killed the pace of the game.

  • Seamus Coleman

    1
    3.50

    Seamus Coleman

On the whole, dealt with the threat of Mohamed and Jones without any real drama and regularly pushed forward, setting up chances for Fellaini and Jelavic. Took his first goal in two years with real skill, lofting the ball over a helpless Scott Brown.

  • Nikica Jelavic
    12
    1
    2.50

    Nikica Jelavic

Showed excellent striking instinct to follow up Fellaini's effort for the first goal, and nearly doubled his tally soon after but dragged his shot wide. Overall was pretty quiet throughout the game but if he was to have a poor game, David Moyes won't mind it being this one.

  • Victor Anichebe

    3.50

    Victor Anichebe

Hardly involved early on in the match, but contributed more in the second half as the Toffees imposed their authority. Drilled a left-footed effort well wide early after the break before setting up Coleman and Fellaini for the fourth and fifth goals with fine crosses.

    Magaye Gueye

Came on for Baines just past the hour and was regularly involved on the left-hand side as the hosts tired.

    Steven Naismith

Came on for Osman with just over 20 minutes to go and saw a shot blocked late on, but saw out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion with the rest.
