Newcastle go into their second game of the Europa League group stages facing a plethora of injury concerns. Steven Taylor (calf) looks set to miss out, while Fabrico Coloccini (thigh) will also be unavailable.
Tim Krul (elbow) will play no part, and Danny Simpson (hamstring) is still yet to return to full fitness. Ryan Taylor (knee-ligaments) is a long term absentee, and it remains to be seen how long Yohan Cabaye (mouth) will spend on the sidelines after sustaining an infection while having a wisdom tooth removed.
Bordeaux have a number of absentees themselves. Midfielder Gregory Sertic (thigh) is set to miss out, Nicolas Maurice-Belay (thigh) is unavailable for at least the next three weeks, while Landry N'Guemo (neck) and Fahid Ben Khalfallah (illness) are not expected to play any part.

Newcastle have faced French opposition on six occasions in European competition, winning just twice against Metz and Sochaux, and suffering defeats to Bastia, Monaco, Troyes and Marseille.
- If former Bordeaux man Gabriel Obertan plays for Newcastle on Thursday, it will mark the first time he has appeared against Les Girondins since leaving for Manchester United in 2009.
- Newcastle's Hatem Ben Arfa is just two European appearances away from 50 in his career.
- Most of Newcastle's French contingent are familiar with Bordeaux, but midfielder Romain Amalfitano has never played against the 2009 Ligue 1 champions.
- Thursday's clash will be Newcastle's 100th in Uefa competition. Of the 99 they have played so far they have won 57, drawn 18 and lost 24.
- Bordeaux are unbeaten in Ligue 1 so far this season, and have not lost in any competitive fixture in 17 matches.
- Many former Bordeaux players have gone on to play in England, including Christophe Dugarry, Sylvain Wiltord and Marouane Chamakh, while former midfielder Jean Tigana managed Fulham from 2000-03.
- Bordeaux pair Mathieu Chalme and Ludovic Obraniak played with Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye during their time at Lille.
- Les Girondins have played at the Stade Chaban-Delmas since 1938. The 34,000 capacity stadium was initially opened as a cycle track but was renovated for the 1938 World Cup. Bordeaux plan to move to a new 43,000 seater stadium in 2015, with construction due to start next year.
- Bordeaux finished as Uefa Cup runners-up in 1996, overcoming AC Milan in the quarter-finals before falling to Bayern Munich 5-1 on aggregate in the final.

The Magpies have hardly been in scintillating form so far this season, but one player who has hit his stride in recent games is Northern Ireland full-back Shane Ferguson.
The 21-year-old, who can play as a left-back or on the left-wing has long been touted as one of Newcastle's brightest prospects, and he has begun to deliver on that promise in recent weeks, notching two assists in the last two games.
Alan Pardew's squad has been stretched due to a high number of injuries, and he may look to the creative Ferguson to be the difference maker and inspire the Geordies to victory.

Winger Henri Saivet has had to get used to hype in recent years. The 21-year-old is looked upon as one of French football's future stars, and the France Under-21 international is already beginning to live up to his reputation.
Saivet scored just once in 24 appearances for Les Girondins last season, but the Senegalse born attacker, who can play on either flank or as a centre-forward, has made a decent start to this campaign, netting twice in seven games.
Pacy and full of creativity, Saivet is the epitome of Gallic flair, and the Newcastle defence will have to be on their guard to stymie Saivet should he be named in the Bordeaux starting line-up.

Both teams may have to rotate their squads as they try and juggle the demands of league and European football. However, Magpies boss Alan Pardew knows he will have to ensure his line-up is strong enough to overcome a Bordeaux side filled with attacking quality.
The visitors proved that they are a difficult side to break down in their 2-0 win over Lyon at the weekend, but Newcastle do possess an abundance of talent going forward, and they may just have enough to edge past Francis Gillot's side.
