    Artur

Rarely troubled but still looked less than convincing. At fault for the Samaras goal as he failed to come for the corner.

  • Luisao

    Luisao

Restored to the starting line-up after suspension and had a fairly quiet evening. When called upon the centre half was more than capable of putting in some sliding challenges on the wet surface. Provided a great assist for Garay's goal.

  • Ezequiel Garay

    Ezequiel Garay

Was willing to sit and keep a high line in order to stop both Hooper and Samaras from getting in behind the defence. Did superbly with the volley which gave Benfica their second goal.

  • L. Melgarejo

    L. Melgarejo

Was another one of the Benfica side who looked to push forward as much as possible. Helped out John in front of him and also moved into the centre of midfield when the play allowed him to do so.

  • Toto Salvio

    Toto Salvio

Was a constant thorn in the side of Matthews, as he continually ran at the Welsh full back. Looked to get a many crosses into the box for Cardozo as he could.

  • Nemanja Matić

    Nemanja Matić

Took control of the midfield area as he battled away with Wanyama throughout the game. He also had a couple of efforts at Forster’s goal, but couldn’t find a way past the Celtic keeper.

  • André Almeida

    André Almeida

Didn’t offer much going forward, but was rarely troubled by Mulgrew going the other way.

  • Enzo Nicolás Pérez

    Enzo Nicolás Pérez

Wasn’t as potent in the forward areas as the other two Benfica attackers, although he did have some really good link up play that allowed his side to get forward and create chances on the Celtic goal.

  • Ó. Cardozo

    3.00

    Ó. Cardozo

Had a couple of chances to get in behind the Celtic defence, although despite his side having the majority of the ball he wasn’t as involved as his manager would have no doubt liked. Saw two rasping strikes saved by Forster.

  • Lima

    Lima

Had a golden opportunity to get a goal in the second half but for Matthews' goal line clearance. Always willing to run at the Celtic defence and take players on when the opportunity arose.

  • Ola John

Ola John Top of the Match

Occupied the space between both Lustig and Brown, thus causing the pair problems throughout. Took his early goal smartly, directing it beyond Forster and was a constant problem to the Celtic defence.

    Fraser Forster

There was nothing that the English-born stopper could do about the two goals. Made a couple of superb saves from Cardozo in the second half.

  • Adam Matthews

    Adam Matthews

Had a couple of tricky moments against Salvio as he was employed on the left side of the defence once again. Made a superb goal-line clearance from Lima in the second half and managed to stay strong as Benfica continually pushed forward.

  • E. Ambrose

    1.50

    E. Ambrose

Was caught out on a couple of occasions by the Benfica forward line and was to blame for the second goal as Garay got in behind the Nigerian defender to volley home.

  • Kelvin Wilson

    3.00

    Kelvin Wilson

Allowed Salvio’s cross to get by him in the run up to the opening goal. But he managed to get beyond that error and put in yet another solid display for the Hoops, not allowing Cardozo the amount of chances he would have expected.

  • Charles Mulgrew

    2
    2.00

    Charles Mulgrew

Played on the left wing and didn’t look comfortable, as he was forced back throughout and couldn’t offer the type of support that the front two required. Went off at half-time feeling ill to be replaced by Kayal.

  • M. Lustig

    2
    2.50

    M. Lustig

Found John a nightmare to cope with as the Benfica midfielder stayed in the space between him and Brown thus making the Swede push forward in front of his fellow defenders and creating space for the home side to get in behind.

  • Scott Brown

    2
    2.00

    Scott Brown

Still suffering from the hip injury that has been troubling him since the start of the season and it showed as he didn’t offer anything on the right-hand side and wasn’t his usual powerful self. Was replaced by Commons.

  • Joe Ledley
    1
    2
    1.50

Joe Ledley Flop of the Match

Showed absolutely nothing for the visitors, as he couldn’t get into the game in the first half when he was stationed in the centre of midfield. After Mulgrew went off he moved over to the left-hand side and was just as ineffective. Replaced by Watt.

  • Victor Wanyama
    13

    3.50

    Victor Wanyama

Once again showed how important he is in the midfield area for the Hoops, evidencing his strength throughout and looking to get forward as much as possible.

  • Georgios Samaras
    3
    0
    2.50

    Georgios Samaras

Was left all alone by the Benfica defence for the equaliser, but other than that the Greek frontman offered little and found the referee frustrating as he gave away numerous fouls.

  • Gary Hooper

    2.00

    Gary Hooper

Had no support given to him and as such contributed little to the Celtic attack as his side were constantly on the back foot throughout.

On at half-time for Mulgrew and offered extra steel in the middle of the park for the visitors.

    Tony Watt

Replaced Ledley as Celtic went in search of an equaliser.
