Live Commentary

  • Thank you for joining us for an absolutely enthralling game - Spartak threw away a 2-1 led in Europe yet again, but tonight Celtic can celebrate a job well done, and being above the mighty Barcelona in Group G. That alone is enough for the Bhoys among you to drink and dance into the early hours - good bye.
  • Those three points may prove to be the difference between getting out of the group stages or going home for Celtic - the turning point came with the sending off of Insaurralde, but Lennon's men were full value for their victory, pressing home the numerical advantage right until the final moments.
  • 90' + 5'
And that's it! Celtic gain a fantastic three points in Russia. What a result for Neil Lennon, whose side now sits top of Group G with four points from two games.
  • 90' + 4'
This would be Celtic's first ever win away in the Champions League, and what an intimidating place to get it too. Only five minutes of injury time - not sure who really decides these things, as there have been three goals and at least fives minutes of delay in the last 45 minutes.
  • 90' + 1'
Cletic almost throw it all away! Emenike is so close to an equaliser as he turns goal-side six yards out after a flick-on, but Wilson does just enough to flick the ball up and over for a corner. Great work from the defender there.
  • 90'
    Assist E. Izaguirre
  • 90'
    Goal Georgios Samaras
SAMARAS HEADS IN!!! They've been pressing and they deserve that goal too. Celtic push up after winning a free kick around 45 yards out, and Izaguirre whips in a superb ball from the left wing, which the big forward rises to meet and power into the bottom left-hand corner of Pesyakov's net. What a turnaround!

Celtic have four minutes of normal time to go, and presumably a fair amount of time to be added on as well to get a valuable three points. They'll rarely get a chance like this again, and Hooper has another effort saved and eventually collected by Pesyakov.
  • 84'
What a stop from Pesyakov! Ledley picking the ball up around 35 yards out, but distance is no bother for the Celtic player as he arrows an effort towards the Spartak keeper's top corner - it's going in, but the keeper gets fingertips on the ball, and saves a header from the resulting corner.
  • 81'
Can Celtic record a stunning comeback? They certainly seem to think so, as they are the team that is doing all the pressing. They'll have to be wary of Spartak on the counter though.

    SubstitutionCharles Mulgrew Joe Ledley
  • 76'
    SubstitutionAiden McGeady Artem Dzuba
  • 75'
How quickly a match can turn - Emenike was sprinting away in celebrating less than half an hour ago after giving his side the lead, and now he appears to be sitting down and having a sulk while Celtic wait to take a corner.
  • 73'
Celtic are really pressing here, and Hooper blasts a cross low across the box, with only a Spartak defender preventing Samaras from finding a finish by looping the ball high over the bar - that could have been two own goals in as many minutes from the hosts there.
  • 71'
    Own Goal Dmitriy Kombarov
EQUALISER!! Celtic level it up as substitute James Forrest makes an immediate impact. Mulgrew crosses low from the left, Samaras gives it a trademark step over to leave it for Hooper, who lays it on a plate for Forrest. His finish is saved, but the ball deflects onto the unfortunate leg of Kombarov. Game on...

    SubstitutionVictor Wanyama James Forrest

    SubstitutionDemy de Zeeuw Sergey Bryzgalov
  • 65'
This is a rather long delay - nobody really seems to be sure what's going on, least of all the referee. Tony Chapron looked unsure about the red card, so perhaps he had a word in his ear from another official. When the free kick is eventually ready to be taken, Mulgrew's whipped effort is punched away by the Spartak keeper.
  • 63'
    Red Card Juan Manuel Insaurralde
  • 61'
Massive controversy here, as Gary Hooper is through on goal and is dragged down cynically by Insaurralde, but play is seemingly waived on. Hooper remains on his knees stunned, and it looks as if the referee is going to book him for diving, but he eventually pulls out a red card for the Spartak defender. He got there in the end, did the ref...
  • 59'
Samaras bursts forward and the break is on for Celtic as they have men up and across as the big forward surges through, but he disappointingly loses possession. A waste there, but more encouraging from The Bhoys.
  • 56'
Chance for Celtic here - Charlie Mulgrew floats a free kick in from the right and Ambrose meets it with his head, but can only find the top of the netting. That's better from Celtic, who will need to play their way back into this difficult tie after a promising start.
  • 52'
Forster really should have done better with the initial effort leading up to the goal - although the shot took a deflection, replays show that it was heading wide, and the goalkeeper weakly parried to his right. There's no mercy in Europe, and that's simply not good enough from the big Englishman.
  • 48'
    Assist Demy de Zeeuw
  • 48'
    Goal Emenike
GOAL!!! It's a disastrous start to the second half for Celtic - Emmanuel Emenike has scored for the second time, and this one was an even easier finish for the Nigerian than the first. Again, it's put on a plate by Ari, who slid the ball across goal after Fraser Forster could only parry a deflected shot weakly out to his right.
  • HALF-TIME. All square at the break with both club’s strikers getting themselves on the score sheet. Hooper broke the deadlock early in the game and thought he had added another only to be thwarted by the offside flag. Before Emenike grabbed a leveller shortly before half time with a close range finish.
  • 45' + 1'
Celtic do well to scramble the ball out from a corner in stoppage time and go in level.
  • 44'
The home side are pushing for another goal to go in ahead with Celtic being forced onto the backfoot.
  • 41'
    Assist Ari
  • 41'
    Goal Emenike
  • 41'
Emenike has looked the most likeliest to grab a goal for Emery’s side and they grab a fully deserved leveller just before half time.
  • 41'
Goal!!! It’s an equaliser and it’s Spartak’s dangerman Emenike who gets the goal. Kallstrom plays a superb ball into the box which Ari does well to find Emenike with the Nigerian supplying the finish touch too.
  • 39'
Free-kick to Spartak in a decent area. Pareja hit’s a bending effort which Forster dives to punch clear. That’s probably as close as the home side have coming to getting on the scoresheet.
  • 37'
Commons plays in a free-kick which Samaras does well to get on the end of but fails to get any real power into his header and Pesyakov gratefully gathers the ball.
  • 35'
Emenike gets himself on the end of a cross after another spell of home possession but again fails to force Forster into action.
  • 33'
After a slowish start, Neil Lennon’s side have looked impressive when breaking from deep and with Hooper upfront the Spartak backline need to be on the top of their game.
  • 30'
    Yellow Card Victor Wanyama
  • 30'
Kallstrom again looks to pick up Pareja with a free-kick from distance but the ball is overhit and goes out for a goal kick.
  • 27'
Decent chance at the other end. Dmitriy Kombarov fires in an excellent cross which Emenike who leaps well and gets his head on the ball but fails to hit the target.
  • 24'
The ball’s in the back of the net but it won’t stand. Georgios Samaras picks up Hooper with a cross which the forward heads into the net but the goal is ruled out. He was about a yard offside.
  • 22'
    Yellow Card Charles Mulgrew
  • 21'
Another counterattack by Celtic ends in the visitors appealing for a penalty. Kris Commons is tackled in the area but it looks like the ball was won cleanly.
  • 18'
Another corner to Spartak. This time Kallstrom’s set piece lands on the dead of Nicolas Pareja who can only manage to direct his effort harmlessly wide of the target.
  • 16'
The home supporters are trying to get their team going as they look to recover from falling behind in a match which they have dominated until Hooper's strike.
  • 13'
That goal make it 60 goals in 99 Celtic appearances for Hooper since he joined the club from Scunthorpe United.
  • 12'
    Assist M. Lustig
  • 12'
    Goal Gary Hooper
  • 12'
Goal!!! It goes against the run of play - 1-0 Celtic. Victor Wanyama does well to find Mikeal Lustig who advances down the flank before firing in an excellent cross which Gary Hooper does superbly to fire past Sergey Pesyakov.
  • 10'
Celtic are looking to play on the counter so far but have struggled to make the most of the little possession that they have had so far.
  • 7'
Ex-Celtic man Aiden McGeady has started really brightly so far and looks keen to get himself into the game and impress against his former side.
  • 4'
Unai Emery’s side are forcing their opponents back winning three corners in the opening minutes. Former Lyon man Kim Kallstrom bursts through onto goal but his effort flies well over.
  • 2'
Bright start from the hosts - a powerful run from Ari is thwarted by Efe Ambrose who puts the ball behind for a corner which fails to come to anything.
