The real star of the show, though, was Mata, who was majestic before being substituted in the second half. Thanks for reading this evening - all the scores and reaction from tonight's League Cup fixtures will be available for your viewing pleasure on our LIVE! blog, accessible on the front page of the site. Good night!
Cahill and Bertrand opened the scoring early on for Chelsea and Mata added a third not too long later before second half goals from Romeu, from the penalty spot, Torres and Moses.
FULL-TIME: A walk in the park for Chelsea and Roberto Di Matteo. They're through to the fourth round after a 6-0 thrashing of a lacklustre Wolves team.
90' + 1'
Two minutes of added time. Wolves had a corner a moment ago after Cahill had headed a cross behind but Chelsea were never threatened and cleared with ease.
This is a procession now for Chelsea (not that it hasn't been for the past 70 minutes or so). Edging towards full-time but it's been an easier evening than they even could have hoped for.
Piazon beats his man and sends a cross in but can't pick out Moses and the ball is ushered back to De Vries.
Last change for Wolves. Peszko is replaced by Zele Ismail, an 18-year-old academy graduate.
It might be interesting for future reference given Chelsea's lack of striking options, by the way, to note that Moses is now up front. Hazard, Piazon and Marin in support.
Hazard replaces Torres. Poor Wolves.
Something of an attack for Wolves, but it's a frustrated one. Sigurdarson - don't think I've typed his name since I posted the line-ups - gets the ball wide to Peszko. It's worked through a couple of players before reaching Nouble, whose first shot is blocked and second trickles through to Turnbull.
It should be seven! Marin takes advantage of a poor Wolves pass and races clear, but chooses to pass to Torres instead of shooting himself. The Spaniard's effort is disappointing and De Vries makes the save - that should have been a goal.
Goal Victor Moses
GOAL! The goals keep coming! Moses adds Chelsea's sixth - Marin is involved, initiating the move from which Oscar crossed for the new signing from Wigan, who headed home from the edge of the six-yard box.
Marin is entering the fray for Chelsea. He replaces Mata, who receives a deserved standing ovation after a superb display. If he was tired, he doesn't look it anymore.
Nouble, by the way, was offered a professional contract by Chelsea and highly-regarded at Stamford Bridge. He turned it down because he feared for his first-team prospects with so many strikers in front of him. Times have changed there, but Nouble is yet to really find his feet in the Football League. He originally joined West Ham but moved on to Wolves in the summer and has been on loan to several clubs.
A brilliant Mata pass releases Azpilicueta, who wins a corner. Mata and Oscar link up from the resulting dead ball in some style but Romeu's shot is saved by De Vries and the flag goes up for offside.
Wolves make a change. Frank Nouble, who was a youth player at Chelsea, replaces Boukari.
Could be a deeper role, then, for Oscar, given that he's replaced Ramires. The Chelsea fans want a free-kick for Edwards' aggressive winning of the ball off Moses but the referee is happy with the challenge.
It's not going to get any easier for Wolves. Oscar has entered the fray as a replacement for Ramires in midfield.
Goal Fernando Torres
GOAL! It's five for Chelsea and Torres has his goal. A corner from Mata - influential all evening - finds the striker, who rises highest at the near post to head home.
Another great chance for Peszko goes begging! A good run by Boukari ends in the winger cutting the ball back to the penalty spot but Peszko fails to hit the target. Wasteful.
Penalty Goal Oriol Romeu
GOAL! Romeu converts a well-struck penalty but Wolves are very hard done by here. Moses shifts the ball past De Vries in the area but then, quite frankly, dives. Disappointing to see from the winger but it won't affect the outcome of this game.
PENALTY TO CHELSEA!
Wolves have a free-kick from distance that Turnbull comes to claim. He is successful in punching away but then goes down hurt. He looks to be OK to continue now though.
A corner looks to be heading to Terry but De Vries does well to intercept and tip the ball clear.
No changes at the break for Chelsea, but Wolves have replaced Hunt with Anthony Forde. The attendance tonight is 32,591.
We're back underway at the Bridge.
Azpilicueta had a good half for Chelsea, as did Mata. The Spanish and Brazilian contingent have all done well, with the aforementioned pair plus Piazon, Ramires, Torres and Romeu all on the pitch tonight.
HALF-TIME! Chelsea strolling to victory at Stamford Bridge - they have a 3-0 lead and are 45 minutes away from the fourth round.
45' + 1'
One minute to be added on. Another free-kick from Mata, from about 30 yards out, just misses the target. De Vries wasn't sure and scrambled across goal in an attempt to make the save - it wasn't far away.
More great stuff from Mata. The playmaker is very close to picking out Piazon at the far post but it's just about cleared behind before he can make contact.
Mata's delivery is headed away by Zubar. Piazon hooks it back in, and it's cleared behind for a corner.
Azpilicueta nutmegs Zubar, so the Wolves defender takes a more no-nonsense approach to defending the next time around, blocking the Spaniard's path entirely. Mata will swing in the free-kick.
Romeu's speculative effort deflects off of Hunt and proves tricky for De Vries to deal with. The goalkeeper needed two attempts at claiming it because of the spin that the deflection put on the ball.
Might be an opportunity to see a couple more fringe players with the score like this, but in attacking terms Marin is the only one still looking to establish himself in the team after injury. Hazard and Oscar are the other two attacking subs.
Mata sends a free-kick just wide! Piazon is fouled by Batth just outside the box and the Spaniard drills an effort through the wall that left De Vries helpless but just missed the target.
Mata releases Ramires down the flank and the midfielder produces an excellent cross with his weaker left foot but De Vries and Zubar do well to deal with it.
Mata releases Torres, who shows great pace, down the wing, but the Spaniard can't see a target at which to aim a cross. He checks back and returns the ball to Ramires but the move breaks down between the midfielder and his compatriot Piazon.
Peszko should score! The Wolves midfielder got between Terry and Cahill and rounded Turnbull but hit the side netting from a tight angle with the goal at his mercy. He really should have put that one away.
Better from Wolves - Davis' shot from distance is parried over the bar by Turnbull after a nice move down the right involving Peszko. The resulting corner from Hunt - still unpopular here - is a poor one.
No much of a test for Chelsea, this, but at least they might build up a little confidence. Good opportunity for Torres to get on the scoresheet, perhaps.
Goal Juan Mata
GOAL! Mata adds a third! It's his first goal of the season and it's nicely worked. The Spaniard plays a tidy one-two with Piazon before advancing on and doing the same with Torres. After a lovely pass from the striker Mata poked the ball under goalkeeper De Vries.
Wolves have their first chance - kind of - in the shape of a free-kick that is headed back across goal but then comfortably cleared.
A Chelsea corner is cleared as far as Ramires who connects on the volley, but his effort flies miles over the bar. Can't blame him for trying.
The chances keep coming. After a good tackle from Batth stopped Piazon from progressing into the area, Azpilicueta's fine cross nearly picked out the Brazilian.
That is surely that, after just seven minutes.
Goal Ryan Bertrand
GOAL! Bertrand doubles the Chelsea lead! They're cruising now. Romeu's 30-yard shot was well-saved by De Vries but Piazon retrieved the rebound before it went out for a corner. The youngster found Bertrand and he produced a fine finish from just inside the penalty area.
It will be an uphill struggle now for Stale Solbakken's team. The manager's father, by the way, was a Chelsea fan but has apparently agreed to back Wolves tonight.
Goal Gary Cahill
GOAL! Gary Cahill gives Chelsea the lead! Mata curls in a free-kick from the right that the defender rises above Stearman to head past De Vries. That should take a lot off weight off the Blues' shoulders.
Bertrand puts in a good cross but De Vries manages to punch away. Piazon is on the left of the three playing off Torres, with Mata through the middle and Moses on the right.
Terry has received applause every time he has touched the ball. Chelsea controlling possession early on.
Torres and Mata kick us off.
Not too far away from kick-off now. Decent atmosphere developing at Stamford Bridge considering one might expect a low-key contest on a night like this. Plenty of support for John Terry emanating from the stands.
Chelsea assistant first team coach Steve Holland has revealed that Azpilicueta would have started the match against Stoke City if not for the aerial threat posed by Tony Pulis' team. That'll be good for Branislav Ivanovic to know.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have named a strong side but one featuring several new signings and young players. The likes of Ryan Bertrand, Oriol Romeu and Lucas Piazon will hope to stake a claim for a more regular place in the team, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Victor Moses make their first starts for the Blues having joined the club late in the transfer window.
Plenty of changes for both teams. Wolves appear to have largely written tonight's tie off, making 10 changes to the team that beat Ipswich at the weekend. Only Slawomir Peszko survives the chop.
Wolves (4-5-1): De Vries; Stearman, Zubar, Margreitter, Batth; Boukari, Peszko, Davis, Edwards, Hunt; Sigurdarson. Subs: Ikeme, Nouble, Jonsson, Foley, Price, Ismail, Forde.
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Turnbull; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Terry, Bertrand; Ramires, Romeu; Moses, Piazon, Mata; Torres. Subs: Hilario, Ferreira, Luiz, Mikel, Oscar, Hazard, Marin.
No better place to start than with the teams so here we go...
