Could do little with any of the goals, such were the quality of the finishes. Made a good stop from Gabi on the half hour mark, and another from a Mario Suarez free-kick in the second, but not a night he will want to remember.
A rare off night for the England man who, alongside the rest of the Chelsea defence, struggled to cope with the pace, power and precision of the Atletico attack. Should have got tighter to Falcao for the second goal.
Beaten for pace countless times, and a real weak link in an awful defensive display. Did manage to get forward himself, but wasted each opportunity with woeful delivery.
A weak display by the Brazilian who tried, and failed, to hook the first goal off the line and was left woefully wrong footed for the second. No communication with his team-mates.
His partnership with David Luiz looked vulnerable all night long, and he struggled to keep pace with the lightning quick Atletico counter-attacks. However, showed good reactions to drill home a consolation goal.
Did manage a shot at goal in the first half, but could not find the target. Wandered all over the pitch trying to find the space to get Chelsea going, but ultimately failed.
The recalled captain played a deeper role, yet failed to really protect his defence which was exposed time and time again. Tried to drive his side forward and supplied the corner from which Cahill grabbed his goal.
Fairly helpless against the waves of Atletico attacks, and gave his defence little cover. Improved after the break and was decent in possession but looked out of his depth at times.
Tried as hard as anyone to get Chelsea going forwards but found it tough going. Was beaten ridiculously easily by Falcao for the third goal and failed to appear for the second half.
Could only watch on in disbelief in the first half as Atletico ran riot. Had very little service, scuffed one shot wide just after the break and cut a very frustrated figure.
Simply not involved, saw little of the ball, did little with it on the rare occasions he did have it and could not influence proceedings.
Came on at half-time as Roberto Di Matteo tried valiantly to salvage something from the game. Showed some neat passes and did manage a shot off target but that was about as good as it got for the Brazilian.
Speculation had surrounded his future all day long, but came on as a substitute for the last 10 minutes.
Will have enjoyed taking on his parent club. A spectator in the first half, when he did not have a save to make and handled what little was thrown his way in the second half comfortably. Could do little about the goal.
Strong in the air and on the ground, dealt with the very few Chelsea attacks with some nonchalance. Grabbed the fourth goal with a neat finish after some awful Chelsea defending.
The full-back was rarely troubled and simply cruised through the game.
Alongside Miranda, he formed a solid central defensive partnership that Chelsea struggled to penetrate. Impressive.
Looked a real threat going forwards and set up a great early chance for Falcao. His forward runs did allow Ivanvovic some space to attack but the Chelsea defender's delivery was poor. Kept going all night and forced Cech into a save late on.
A lively, creative presence all night long. A great run to set up Falcao for the third goal and Chelsea simply could not get close to him.
The captain was superb, a probing, dominant presence. Set up the opener with a great ball to Falcao and could have scored himself but failed to beat Cech after making a good overlapping run.
Enjoyed plenty of possession and was always calm on the ball. Rarely wasted a pass and kept Atletico ticking over nicely.
Another Atletico man who barely put a foot wrong. Had a few sights of goal himself, but found his shots blocked, but had a hand in the fourth goal.
A danger all night long that Chelsea struggled to contain. Should have scored himself, when he just had an empty net to tap home into but somehow conspired to miss when it seemed easier to score. Limped off after 55 minutes.
A quite incredible display by the Colombian which earns him all five stars. Scored a hat-trick with three sublime finishes and hit the woodwork twice, and that was just in the first 45 minutes. Dazzling, and given a huge ovation when he left the field with minutes remaining.
Replaced Adrian Lopez with a little over half an hour to go and continued where he left off, setting up Falcao within minutes of his arrival and giving the Chelsea defence little respite.
A late substitute for Falcao.
Handed the last 10 minutes, and almost picked out Falcao late on but his cross was blocked by Cole.
