Manuel Neuer's replacement had had very little to do until the point Nurnberg were awarded a penalty. In fairness, he knew little about his subsequent save - the ball hit him in the head - but he had guessed the right way, so he deserved his good fortune.

    Daniel Van Buyten

Very nearly broke the deadlock just three minutes in but, for the most part, he had a pretty uneventful afternoon. Dealt comfortably and competently with what little Nurnberg threw at him.

  • Rafinha
    12

    3.50

    Rafinha

Took his goal wonderfully well, whipping the ball inside Schafer's near post after a splendidly-timed foray into the area. He did give away a penalty at the other end for a clumsy foul on Frantz, but he proved an able deputy for Lahm.

  • Jerome Boateng

    Jerome Boateng

Could not have hoped for a better opening half-hour, demonstrating great technique in breaking the deadlock with an acrobatic half-volley before then slipping Gomez through to score soon after. Never ruffled at the back either.

  • Diego Contento

    Diego Contento

Got forward often enough but did not offer anything like the same attacking threat as Rafinha. Looked defensively suspect at times, too.

  • Franck Ribéry

    Franck Ribéry

Though not at his brilliant best, his direct running did cause Nurnberg problems. His set-piece deliveries also regularly created chaos.

  • Xherdan Shaqiri

    Xherdan Shaqiri

Set the tone for an energetic display by testing Schafer inside the opening 60 seconds. Got the goal his performance deserved just after the break, the Swiss finding the bottom right corner after quickly shifting the ball from his right foot to his left.

  • Emre Can

    Emre Can

Afforded a rare start in midfield, Can failed to shine, struggling to make anything happen from an offensive perspective.

    Anatoliy Tymoshchuk

Another reserve to impress, the Ukrainian did a good job protecting the Bayern defence, while at the same time trying to get forward in support of his attackers whenever he could.

Claudio Pizarro Top of the Match

Did a fine job buzzing in and around Gomez up front, setting up Bayern's third with a terrific ball into the path of the onrushing Rafinha. Should have scored himself, though, but lifted the ball over the bar after being put through one-on-one with Schafer.

  • Mario Gomez

    3.50

    Mario Gomez

Recalled to the starting lineup and made the most of his opportunity to remind everyone just how good a striker he is by coolly converting after being put through by Boateng. Probably disappointed, though, not to have taken any more of the chances which came his way.

Substitutions

  • Pierre Emil Højbjerg

    Pierre Emil Højbjerg

Never quite managed to get into what was his first game in the Bundesliga, having come on in place of Shaqiri for the final 20 minutes.

  • Raphael Schäfer

    Raphael Schäfer

Time and time again Schafer was left horribly exposed by his so-called defenders. He definitely should have done better with Rafinha's effort, which beat him at his near post, but he spared his side from a far heavier beating.

  • Per Nilsson

    Per Nilsson

Did not know whether he was coming or going all afternoon, particularly during the opening half hour. Nilsson just could not cope with the movement of Bayern's attackers.

  • Timm Klose

    1.50

    Timm Klose

Cannot fault his committment, with Klose keen to continue after a nasty clash of heads shortly after half-time. Thankfully, his club's medics were having none of it and he was withdrawn from the action. That was no bad thing, as he had been dire up until that point.

  • Horacio Javier Pinola

    Horacio Javier Pinola

The only Nurnberg defender who seemed to have some idea of what he was doing and where he was supposed to be positioned. Even managed to ask some questions of the Bayern defence on occasion.

  • Timmy Simons

Timmy Simons Flop of the Match

Gave his back four absolutely no protection whatsoever and his misery was only compounded by his failure to beat Starke from the spot.

  • Hanno Balitsch

    Hanno Balitsch

Stood up reasonably well to Shaqiri, but was still left chasing shadows at various intervals.

  • Markus Feulner

    1
    2.50

    Markus Feulner

Unlike many of his colleagues, Feulner did at least put himself about but he was unable to exert any kind of control over a terribly one-sided contest.

  • Hiroshi Kiyotake

    Hiroshi Kiyotake

The Japanese never looked overawed and was always trying to make something happen. Unfortunately for him, and Nurnberg, he never managed to do so.

  • Mike Frantz

    2.00

    Mike Frantz

Can take some consolation out of the fact that he won the penalty by outwitting Rafinha but he contributed little else during a tame display.

  • Tomas Pekhart
    0
    0
    2.00

    Tomas Pekhart

Given the thankless task of leading the line on his own, Pekhart never got a sight of goal. Starved of any kind of quality ball but, at the same time, he did not offer much either, so hardly surprising that he went off at half-time.

Substitutions

  • Marvin Plattenhardt

    2.50

    Marvin Plattenhardt

Took over from the concussed Klose early in the second half and fared reasonably well, bringing a degree of solidity to Nurnberg's floundering backline.

  • Timothy Chandler
    0
    0
    2.50

    Timothy Chandler

Came on for Pekhart during the break and offered far more energy than the man he replaced, not that that is saying much.

  • Muhammed Ildiz
    0
    0

    Muhammed Ildiz

Only thrown on in the closing stages, so was unable to make his mark.
