    Benoit Costil

Voted Ligue 1’s sexiest player this season, the goalkeeper would have perhaps expected a busier afternoon. Saved easily from Ibrahimovic in the first half but was left exposed for PSG to score twice in the second. Also denied Gameiro well.

  • Chris Mavinga

    Chris Mavinga

Guilty of going to ground too readily at times, which allowed the likes of Ibrahimovic to get the better of him. At times he defended rashly and was reliant on the referee’s leniency to get away without a booking.

  • Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik

    Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik

Looked inexperienced up against Ibrahimovic, who escaped his clutches using all his know how on occasion. Was one of the players left in the wake of Menez as PSG went a goal up on the hour mark.

  • John Boye

    John Boye

Nearly put through his own goal after half an hour but his header dropped narrowly wide of the post. The Ghanaian had been booked moments earlier. When PSG raised their level in the second half, he certainly started to struggle.

  • Romain Danze

    Romain Danze

Slotted into the right-back role, where he coped comfortably with the threat of Menez for the most part. The versatile player had a surprisingly straightforward experience as the man he was marking did most of his damage elsewhere on the field.

  • Alou Diarra

    Alou Diarra

Returned to the squad after missing last weekend’s debacle due to injury but failed to really show his experience in this match. Seemed to be bypassed in midfield at times and could have imposed himself more physically.

  • Julien Féret

    Julien Féret

The key creative presence in the Rennes midfield struggled to get involved in the game on a regular basis in the first half. He orchestrated the revival of his side after the break, with one particularly good shot flashing wide.

  • S. Diallo

    S. Diallo

Had one fine first-half opportunity when he drew a good save from Sirigu with an excellent shot. Has taken time to settle in Ligue 1 after being so strong with Bastia last season, but does seem to be finally finding his feet.

  • Vincent Pajot

    Vincent Pajot

Harshly penalised for a handball just outside the box, which led to a chance for Ibrahimovic, yet the midfielder enjoyed a solid match overall as he stepped in for Jean II Makoun, who was rested for fear of him picking up a booking that would see him miss the Coupe de la Ligue final in a fortnight.

  • Jonathan Pitroipa

    Jonathan Pitroipa

So often Rennes’ offensive talisman, the Burkinabe attacking midfielder did not find his best form in this clash, though a terrific shot towards the end of the first half flashed just wide of the post.

  • Cheick Fanta Mady Diarra

Cheick Fanta Mady Diarra Flop of the Match

Preferred to former PSG striker Mevlut Erding in attack and had a good early chance as the ball broke to him from a corner, though he failed to beat Sirigu. Seemed a little out of his depth.

    Salvatore Sirigu

Reacted well to deny both Diallo and Fantamady Diarra with the space of a couple of first-half minutes. Just before half-time he was nearly caught when trying to dribble away from his goalmouth. Spilled a cross in the second period that might have been more costly.

  • Mamadou Sakho

    Mamadou Sakho

Stepped in to replace the injured Alex but did not perform like the all-conquering defender that Ancelotti would have hoped. A robust performance against Fantamady Diarra, yet some small errors undermined his efforts.

  • Zoumana Camara

    Zoumana Camara

Given a rare opportunity to shine in the starting XI, yet the defender had several uncertain moments early on and was lucky that he did not make an error that cost a goal. Was at least prepared to be strong in the tackle and improved notably after the break, making a couple of key challenges.

  • Maxwell

    Maxwell

Once again fielded on the left of the PSG defence, where he turned in a typically unspectacular but efficient performance. The Brazilian might have pushed forward to better effect, though.

  • Gregory van der Wiel

    Gregory van der Wiel

The Dutchman is a maligned figure at Parc des Princes, and he nearly gifted Pitroipa the opening goal in the first half due to a suicidal header. Did better after the break and made one particularly vital challenge when Konradsen was well placed.

  • Jérémy Menez

Jérémy Menez Top of the Match

Came into the match with a point to prove and scored an absolutely wonderful solo goal for which he had to beat four players before converting past Costil. A poor match beforehand from the attacker, yet that will be forgotten thanks to his magnificent strike.

  • Blaise Matuidi

    Blaise Matuidi

Will miss Wednesday’s clash with Barcelona due to suspension but showed his durability with another competitive performance in the middle of the field. Was busy and rarely gave possession away.

  • Clément Chantôme

    2.50

    Clément Chantôme

A quiet performance in the centre of the field during the first half, in which he failed to really impose himself. Played a key role in Menez’s goal, though, as he tenaciously won possession just in front of his own box.

  • Marco Verratti

    Marco Verratti

A disappointing performance from the young Italian in the middle of the PSG midfield, where he was expected to act as the link player. He was prone to keeping possession for too long, though. Picked up his customary booking with a foul on Boye and was replaced at the break.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

PSG’s talisman is so vital to the way the side works he was once again deployed at the vanguard of the attack. Snatched at an early chance from a corner and will be disappointed he did not do more with a first-half free kick. Scored late on from close range, although once again under suspicion of offside.

  • Kevin Gameiro

    Kevin Gameiro

Drafted into the starting XI but was deployed in a wide role, where he is certainly not most suited. Worked hard for the team, but his goalscoring prospects were curbed by his status out on the right. When he did have a chance, Costil denied him. Taken off after 65 minutes.

    David Beckham

Introduced at half-time to replace the ineffective Verratti. Helped raise the intensity of PSG’s performance, and aside from a corner straight into the side netting, he was as precise as ever. Set up Ibrahimovic late on.

  • Ezequiel Lavezzi

Given a late run against the tiring Rennes defence.
