Live Commentary

  • Thank you for joining us for todays live match coverage on Be sure to stick around for all the reaction and fallout from todays Premier League games. But for now it's arrivederci.
  • That is the momentum and the result Wigan required with the home game against Swansea on Tuesday and the FA Cup final with Manchester City three days later. Now it's up to Martinez and his players to deliver. Can they do it all over again?
  • FULL TIME. There are no words to describe how big that win is for Wigan. Another great escape is on the card for Roberto Martinez again after a stunning second half fightback. Callum McManaman the hero again.
  • 90' + 5'
    Yellow Card Paul Scharner
  • 90' + 5'
Wigan survive another set-piece onslaught as McManaman is the hero again with a header off the line.
  • 90' + 3'
    Yellow Card Isaih Brown
16-year-old Isaiah Brown is shown a yellow card on his debut for a rash tackle on McArthur. Welcome to the Premier League kid.
  • 90'
Five minutes added on at the Hawthorns. Can Wigan hold on?!
  • 89'
What a save! Dorrans lets fly with a rasping drive from 25-yards and has Joel at full stretch to push it behind. That could be massive.
  • 87'
Considering they've been suspect all afternoon this is really dogged stuff at the back from Wigan. They're not going to loosen their grip on this lead without a fight.
  • 86'
    SubstitutionY. Mulumbu Isaih Brown
  • 84'
Mulumbu slips in between two Wigan defenders and tries to bend the ball around Joel from just inside the penalty area but his effort doesn't quite have enough curl on it.
  • 83'
Question is can Wigan hold on this time? They were denied a precious three points at the death last week against Tottenham. It can't happen again, can it?
  • 80'
    Assist Shaun Maloney
And the great Wigan escapology act of 2012/13 is ON! Maloney again the architect, driving to the byline and picking out McMamanan, who gratefully tucks the ball into the net from two-yards out. What a turnouround at the Hawthorns.
  • 80'
    Goal Callum McManaman
  • 78'
Cries for a penalty from the West Brom faithful as Thomas attempted cross hits Boyce on the arm.
  • 76'
    Yellow Card Gareth McAuley
  • 75'
    SubstitutionJean Beausejour R. Espinoza
Big blow for Wigan as Beausejour is stretchered off and replaced Honduran midfielder Roger Espinoza.
  • 75'
Do or die now for Wigan as the game heads into its final quarter. Another goal would slice the defict on Newcastle, who are drawing at West Ham, to just three points and still hold a game in hand.
  • 71'
After dealing with some sustained pressure in front of their own goal West Brom take the opportunity to hit Wigan on the break. Jones leads the charge and forces a smart save from Joel with a low, rasping drive from distance.
  • 69'
Nervy moment for West Brom as Olsson's sloppy backpass is followed by a poor touch from Foster. He is immediately closed down by the lively Kone and ends up smashing the ball off the Ivorian and out for a goal kick.
  • 67'
    Yellow Card Román Golobart
  • 65'
    SubstitutionMarkus Rosenberg James Morrison
  • 65'
    SubstitutionR. Lukaku Jerome Thomas
  • 64'
Maloney bends another delicious ball into the West Brom penalty area that is headed over by an off-balance Kone. Need to take those sort of chances at the business end of the season.
  • 63'
Peter Odemwingie begins to warm up in front of the West Brom fans that brings forth a maelstrom of boos and jeers from the home crowd. He's immediately called back to the bench. Looks like that is where he will be staying for the remainder of the game.
  • 60'
There are goals aplenty in this game, especially if Wigan continue to defend like this. Another set-piece has them at sixes and sevens with McAuley almost profitting again, but this time he can only head over from a corner.
  • 58'
    Assist Shaun Maloney
  • 58'
    Goal James McArthur
What a substitution! What an impact! Maloney afforded too many touches to dig out a cross and McArthur's first meaningful touch after coming on is to bravely nod the ball in at the back post. Wigan level for a second time.
  • 57'
    Yellow Card Shaun Maloney
  • 57'
    SubstitutionRonnie Stam Román Golobart
  • 57'
    SubstitutionJordi Gómez James McArthur
  • 55'
James McArthur preparing to enter the fray and boy do Wigan need him. They've been toothless in the middle of the park, both offensively and defensively.
  • 53'
Roberto Martinez will be furious with his side for gifting West Brom the crucial second goal. Needs to shake things up quickly if Wigan are to take anything away from this game.
  • 50'
    Assist Graham Dorrans
  • 50'
    Goal Gareth McAuley
It's been an afternoon to forget for Paul Scharner. His foul on Long gives West Brom a free kick on the right. Dorrans' delivery picks out McAuley, who beats Kone in the air to head past a helpless Joel. Really poor marking from Wigan.
  • 48'
Tentative beginning to the second period from both teams with the ball quagmired in the middle of the park. McMananman the only player to get close to goal with a Kinkladze style jinking run into the penalty area only to crowded out by West Brom.
  • 45'
    Back underway at the Hawthorns.
  • 45' + 2'
Half time at the Hawthorns. Wigan will be the happier of the two sides to go into the break, while West Brom will feel they should be ahead. Game is finely poised.
  • 45' + 1'
McManaman has an appetite for goals after his stunner last week and is permitted to cut inside by West Brom but his left-footed strike is untamed and soars well over the bar courtesy of a deflection.
  • 45'
Two minutes of added time will be played at the Hawthorns.
  • 42'
West Brom look for a response after being pegged back and Rosenberg attempts to pick out Lukaku with a chipped pass but it's too heavy and Joel can claim.
  • 40'
    Yellow Card Billy Jones
  • 39'
    Assist Jean Beausejour
  • 39'
    Goal Arouna Kone
A crucial equaliser for Wigan just moments after Lukaku was denied at the other end. Beausejour is given time and space to pick out a wonderful cross that is headed in by Kone. 13th of the season for the Ivorian and one of his most important to date.
  • 36'
Maloney is clipped by Dorrans and is awarded a free kick in a dangerous position. Unfortunately for Wigan he can't repeat the heroics that earned a point against QPR a few weeks back as he curls agonisingly wide.
  • 35'
Wigan are sloppy in possession again and Rosenberg breaks away again but fails to deliver the punishing blow as Boyce sweeps up at the back.
  • 32'
Again it's the right flank that almost proves profitable for West Brom again. Jones has acres to drive into and fizzes the ball across the six-yard box that neither Wigan nor his teammates dare touch.
  • 31'
Great reaction from Wigan as they immediately charge at West Brom. Stam clips a dangerous cross into Kone at the near post that forces McAuley to produce superb defensive header.
  • 29'
    Assist Markus Rosenberg
  • 29'
    Goal Shane Long
Scharner sacrifice possession cheaply for Wigan in their own half and West Brom counter to deadly effect. Lukaku picks out Rosenberg down the right and his slide rule cross is perfect and gives Long the easy task of tapping home from close range.
  • 26'
Lovely chipped pass from Gomez picks the lock on West Brom's defence to find Kone but his cross from just inside the penalty area is behind McManaman, who can only make feint contact with the ball and guide it away from goal.
  • 23'
Have to admire the neatness on the football of offer at the Hawthorns today. Both teams are prepared to keep the ball down and play the technical game. Sadly for the supporters the end product has been disappointing.
  • 20'
Much better from Wigan in the last five minutes as they probe down the right flank again. This time it's Stam with the opportunity to cross and his deep, dipping delivery concerns Foster enough to catch instead of letting it fly out of play.
  • 18'
From the resulting corner that is cleared Wigan work the ball back to Maloney on the right, who delivers a decent ball to the far post in search of Boyce but the defender is on the stretch and heads high over the bar.
  • 17'
Ball breaks to Kone on the halfway line and as the West Brom defence back away from the Ivorian he unleashes a low drive that dips just in front of Foster and forces the Baggies keeper to parry wide. Best we've seen from Wigan so far.
  • 14'
Big scare for Wigan as Rosenberg digs out a low cross from the byline to pick out Long, who steams in between two Wigan defenders but is thwarted by an excellent interception from Scharner.
  • 13'
Same situation again! Watson blocks a long-range Dorrans effort in the area. Dorrans appeals for a penalty, but nothing doing.
  • 12'
West Brom on top here as Ben Watson gets a block in on Dorrans' shot from the edge of the box.
  • 10'
Lukaku just got in behind the Wigan defence courtesy of some sloppy defending, but he took his effort first time on the half-volley and it was well wide. Lazy effort, really.
  • 9'
    Yellow Card Liam Ridgewell
  • 9'
Dorrans lines up a central free kick from 30 yards but his effort is straight down the throat of Robles. Comfortable for the keeper.
  • 6'
West Brom have the first real effort of the match but Joel Robles is equal to Long's low cross.
  • 3'
Noisy start from the crowd at the Hawthorns but the action is not quite so hot on the pitch, with the hosts playing the ball around their defence quite happily.
  • To put it mildly: this is a must win for Wigan today. Although they retain a game in hand the Latics are five points adrift of safety and need to pick up points before their final day showdown with Aston Villa.
  • Wigan continue with Joel Robles between the sticks as number one goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi is only fit enough for the bench. Ben Watson and Ronnie Stam are brought in to cover for Maynor Figueroa (groin) and James McArthur.
  • The Baggies are without captain Chris Brunt (knee) and the suspended Marc-Antoine Fortune, but manager Steve Clarke brings midfielder Youssuf Mulumbu back into the fold. Striker Markus Rosenberg is also handed a rare start.
  • Wigan: Robles; Boyce, Scharner, Stam; Beausejour, Gomez, McCarthy, Watson; Maloney, Kone, McManaman Subs: Al Habsi, Caldwell, Di Santo, Henriquez, McArthur, Espinoza, Golobart
  • West Brom: Foster; Jones, McAuley, Olsson, Ridgewell; Yacob, Dorrans, Mulumbu; Long, Rosenberg, Lukaku Subs: Myhill, Tamas, Dawson, Morrison, Odemwingie, Brown, Thomas
