Wigan go into the contest beset by injury problems. Emerson Boyce (hamstring) is still a doubt, while Mike Pollitt (thigh), Antolin Alcaraz (groin), and Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) are all still out.
Ben Watson (broken leg) is still on the sidelines, Ivan Ramis (knee) is out for the rest of the season and Albert Crusat (knee) is also unavailable. Arouna Kone, meanwhile, is still at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Southampton have far less concerns, with only Guly Do Prado and Jose Fonte (both knee) out through injury.
Emmanuel Mayuka will not return in time from the Africa Cup of Nations in time to take part, however.

The January signing played a vital role in the Latics' recent comeback at Stoke, providing an assist and playing a part in another goal as his side overturned a two-goal deficit. Wigan have overly relied on Di Santo and Kone for goals at time so the help of Espinoza is long overdue.

Vibrant in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa, and a goalscorer in Saints' draw with Chelsea, Jason Puncheon has been an integral part of the Southampton squad this season. The former Blackpool man has linked well with the likes of Gaston Ramirez, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez, and could present the home defence with some problems if he performs to the standard he is capable of.
Neither of these teams goes into the game in any sort of form but both performed well in midweek and an exciting and attacking game is to be expected. Southampton have the slightly better quality in the final third, and that may well be the difference in the end.
