Player Ratings: Reading 3-2 West Brom

Romelu Lukaku's two goals were not enough for the Baggies who were on the wrong end of a fantastic final 10 minutes from the Royals, Pavel Pogrebnyak completing a superb comeback

Good early stop from Morrison. No chance with Lukaku's goal. Probably should have done better with his second, though.

    Chris Gunter

Got forward well early on, but the opening goal came from his side. Important header at far post cleared a deep Lukaku cross and he dealt with Thomas well.

Gave Morrison too much room for an early chance and then lost Lukaku too easily for opening goal, just letting him run past. Allowed Lukaku in behind again, and might have given away a penalty, but Federici rushed out to save him. Went toward making up for it by assisting Pogrebnyak's late winner.

  • Adrian Mariappa

    Adrian Mariappa

Did well against Lukaku for the most, in the air and on the ground. Though his defence was not tight enough at times he made a number of important tackles. Fantastic sliding challenge on Lukaku second after the break to stop him bagging a second, though he did go on to do so.

The cross for Morrison's early chance came from his side, as Thorne was allowed too much room. Took free kick in build up to late winner.

Daniel Carrico Flop of the Match

The new signing looked slighty off the league's pace on his debut, especially with his tackling. Withdrawn at half-time.

  • Jem Karacan

    Jem Karacan

Battled in the middle of the park as Reading enjoyed decent amounts of the ball, but was not tight enough for the opening goal. Brought off in the second half.

    Jobi McAnuff

Fairly lively and worked hard but did not get enough of the ball. Let Jones waltz passed him late in the first half for a half-chance.

Jimmy Kebe Top of the Match

The hosts' brightest player. Delivered a few dangerous crosses and pressed Ridgewell and Thomas quickly. Tracked back well. Terrible touch wasted Reading's best opening first half, though. Popped up in the right place for his goal to get the comeback rolling. Then won the penalty that drew them level.

His set-pieces were hit and miss, but were a threat at times. However, no-one was able to compete against West Brom in air. Nice ball through to Kebe nearly led to a chance.

  • Pavel Pogrebnyak

    Pavel Pogrebnyak

A few niggling fouls on him early in the game stopped him getting hold of the ball. He became frustrated and his passing got sloppy. Was ineffective but battled on and ultimately won the game with a scrappy late finish.

    Garath McCleary

Replaced new-boy Carrico at the half-time break and should have scored soon after his inclusion, but saw Jones block his effort superbly. His cross led to Kebe's late goal, though, and he was an injection of life.

  • Adam Le Fondre

    Adam Le Fondre

Replaced Karacan in the second half as Reading searched for a goal. Kept his head to calmly slot home a late penalty and set-up the finale.

    Ben Foster

Bit slow off his line a couple of times. Comfortable under the high ball. Little to do. Big mistake when missing a cross led to a brilliant chance for McCleary.

  • Jonas Olsson

    Jonas Olsson

Subject of a rejected £5 million bid from QPR and showed his value to the Baggies with numerous headers away from dangerous crosses. Two early challenges on Pogrebnyak to let him know who was boss. Gave away the late penalty.

  • Liam Ridgewell

    Liam Ridgewell

Unable to get forward much but solid defensively. Again, like team-mates, won numerous headers. Late collapse by the defence proved costly.

    Gareth McAuley

Very good header to flick Kebe cross away, then corner. Continued to win everything in the air against Pogrebnyak & co, right until the last minute when the Russian was allowed to win it.

  • Billy Jones

    Billy Jones

Earned a booking for a poor tackle after a mishit pass. Important interception against Kebe. Escaped punishment for a second miss-timed lunge. Exceptional goal-line block to deny McCleary.

  • James Morrison

    James Morrison

Should have done better with chance of his own but then did well to assist Lukaku opener with simple ball in. His cross saw the forward hit the woodwork, and then his pass saw the Belgian finally bag a second.

  • Chris Brunt

    Chris Brunt

Shielding the back four and always looking for a ball through to Lukaku. Could have created more as chances were hard to come by, but solid.

  • George Thorne

    George Thorne

Assured on the ball and barking orders. Broke up numerous attacks and set-up Morrison's chance early on.

Failed to get on the ball enough to influence the game, but got back at times. Replaced late in the second half.

  • Jerome Thomas

    Jerome Thomas

Unable to shake Kebe off his back most of the time when looking togged forward. Gave away needless foul in build-up to Reading's last-gasp winner.

    Romelu Lukaku

Started the move for his goal with a neat touch to Brunt, then carried his run into the box before finishing with ease. Denied a second firstly by Mariappa and then the linesman's flag. Hit the woodwork twice, before finally scoring a second by beating Federici at his near post.
