  Mark Bunn

  Not called into action quite as much as his opposite number, what he had to do he did with relative ease and without fuss. Made one particularly good stop from a Boselli header towards the end of the first half, but did not have a great deal more to deal with.

  Steven Whittaker

  You would have been forgiven for questioning whether Jean Beausejour was even on the pitch thanks to Whittaker. The Scot bossed his man throughout, giving him virtually no opportunities to cross, while he himself got forward to good effect, often combining well with Snodgrass.

  Would have expected a tougher match than he got, particularly up against the livewire Arouna Kone, but in truth Wigan did not throw much at him. When under pressure he looked unusually calm and composed, made some good clearances and produced an essential tackle on Kone late on.

  Michael Turner

  As Kone generally roamed about the frontline to little effect, it was Boselli who found himself central more often than not, and up against Turner he did not get much change. The defender kept close to his man for the most part and had a reasonably comfortable afternoon.

  Javier Garrido

  Probably one of the Spaniard’s least impressive matches at Norwich since his summer loan from Lazio. Ronnie Stam caused him more problems than he perhaps would have anticipated, getting in a number of crosses from the right. Garrido did, however, make up for that by proving a decent attacking outlet, delivering several great deliveries from the wing.

  Bradley Johnson

  Former Leeds man Johnson was his typical destructive, combative self in the middle and he certainly seemed to stifle both McCarthy and McArthur. Despite all his good work, he showed one moment of stupidity when he pushed McCarthy when already on the floor. He received a booking and therefore had to watch his tackles for most of the match.

  Robert Snodgrass

  Took a little while to get settled at Norwich, but he now looks at home in the Premier League. He twisted and turned down the right, crossed well and had a good header saved masterfully by Al-Habsi. Another good performance from the Scot.

  Anthony Pilkington

  Undoubtedly one of the Canaries’ most consistent performers this season on the left wing. Being comfortable with either foot has definitely had an effect, making him unpredictable, while he is equally comfortably coming inside, a fact evident for his goal. After good work by Hoolahan, he burst into the area and fired into the top corner before later returning the favour, crossing for the little Irishman. Wonderful display.

  Wesley Hoolahan Top of the Match

  In the midweek defeat against Aston Villa, the link between midfield and attack was so evidently missing as Steve Morison partnered Holt up front. However, with the re-instatement of Hoolahan, Norwich’s creative spark was there once again. The Irishman’s persistence set-up Pilkington’s goal and then grabbed the winner with a header. The 30-year-old is definitely one of the most underrated players in the Premier League.

  Alexander Tettey

  The Norwegian has become a big crowd favourite since signing from Rennes, and he was in good form once again against Wigan. The powerful midfielder always kept attacks flowing with his quick passing and continuously offloading the ball as soon as he could. He also got himself into the penalty area too, impressing with a few weaving runs.

  Grant Holt

  Came into the match on the back of just four goals from 16 league matches so far, hardly the form that had some tipping him for an England call-up last season, and although he was a little disappointing again, he was still effective. Adrian Lopez often got a foot in against him, but the presence of Holt drew defenders away from Hoolahan.

  The Oman international continues to be rather erratic after a mixed bag at Carrow Road. He probably should have done better with Pilkington’s opener after getting a hand to it, but he made amends with several fantastic stops. The good just out-weighed the bad.

  Emmerson Boyce

  A surprising burst of pace saved him on a couple of occasions, but more often than not Anthony Pilkington had the better of the 33-year-old. Once he realised the danger posed by the Norwich winger, Boyce perhaps got a little too close to him with a number of silly fouls. He also should have done better against Hoolahan for Norwich’s opener.

  The Dutch wing-back was one of the visitors’ creators-in-chief before halftime, surging up the right and causing Garrido a good deal of problems. However, he was far more muted in the second half, giving the Spaniard an easier 45.

  Seems to be improving with every match at the moment, and he was the best of the Wigan defence at Carrow Road. The Spaniard did well to get a foot in against Holt and his distribution was decent, but, he was unforgivably beaten in the air by Hoolahan for the winner.

  Maynor Figueroa

  Got his head – or foot – in to deal with a few crosses, but when Snodgrass and others ran at him with the ball, the Honduran looked very uncomfortable. The hosts seemed to notice this and gave him a rather tough second half.

  After an early altercation with Bradley Johnson, McCarthy received torrents of abuse from the Norwich fans, and eventually went off at halftime following an ineffectual performance. It is unclear whether he was indeed injured, or is he was just suffering from a bruised ego.

  Jordi Gómez Flop of the Match

  Appeared from the start in the hope of taking some of the creative pressure of the Wigan midfield, but it did not work. The Spaniard was pretty dire in truth, creating few chances before being hooked, unsurprisingly at halftime.

  The midfielder was anonymous for most of the match. Helped string a few good moves together early on in the second half, but was bypassed more often than not as he offered little to counter Norwich’s dominance.

  The former Club America star had a pretty awful time of it out there against Norwich. Steven Whittaker bossed him when attempting to attack, while he refused to offer Figueroa support against Snodgrass at the back, despite playing as a wing-back.

  Arouna Kone

  A game of two halves really from the Ivorian. In the first half the former La Liga ‘sick note’ seemed to revert to the play who scored just one goal in 42 matches for Sevilla, showcasing a poor first-touch and just looking clumsy in general. After the break he was improved, producing several clever flicks and grabbed an assist for Maloney’s goal.

  Mauro Boselli

  Boselli came to the Premier League with a burgeoning reputation after a good spell with Estudiantes, but he just simply is not good enough for this level. His movement was verging on non-existent and wasted a good chance in the first half. How he lasted over 60 minutes will remain a mystery.

  Like Jones, he came on at the break, replacing the awful Gomez and had an immediate impact, equalising with a fantastic goal. After that, however, Norwich took over again and his influence was fairly minimal.
