Wigan are still without the injured Antolin Alcaraz (groin) in defence, while fellow centre back and captain Gary Caldwell is ruled out (hamstring) so Adrian Lopez could start in his place.
Midfielders James McArthur (hip) and Albert Crusat (knee) are unavailable, while Ben Watson (broken leg) was injured against Liverpool, so David Jones or playmaker Jordi Gomez could start in central midfield.
Reading could field an unchanged lineup with goalkeeper Alex McCarthy (shoulder) still unavailable and central midfielders Danny Guthrie (thigh) and Jem Karacan (knee) yet to recover from injuries.
Hal Robson-Kanu could retain his place on the right wing ahead of Garath McCleary, and Jimmy Kebe (groin) who is doubtful.
Adam Le Fondre started up front last weekend alongside Jason Roberts in a front two, but Noel Hunt and Pavel Pogrebnyak will also be fighting for a starting spot.

The Republic of Ireland international has played every minute of the Latics’ Premier League campaign so far this season, but has seen regular centre midfield partner James McArthur and stand-in Ben Watson each sidelined through injury. The 22-year-old has impressed as a key component of his team’s attractive style of play, but the pair’s absence places a heightened responsibility on his shoulders to give his side control in midfield.

The striker was a revelation after signing shortly after the start of last season from League Two side Rotherham before going on to score 12 league goals helping the Royals secure promotion from the Championship. The 25-year-old has started just three matches this season but his two goals against Everton last Saturday brought his side their first league win of the season, and he will hope to provide his finishing touch to any service he gets from the wings on Saturday.
Roberto Martinez’ side lost their last two Premier League matches but are likely to see much of the ball and retain the capability of a strong performance given their power and pace in attack.
Brian McDermott’s side were boosted, however, by recording their first win of the season to continue a run of four matches unbeaten, and could come away with a draw at the DW Stadium.
