    Jan Vertonghen

The Spurs defender made a number of dangerous runs forward, but struggled against the lively Narsingh. Beaten a few times in the first half, and lost sight of the PSV star for the equalizer. Bounced back with a goal himself to put the match to bed.

    Thomas Vermaelen

Blocked Van der Vaart’s goal-bound shot in the closing stages of the first half with a fine tackle. Could perhaps have done better on the 1-1 as he was unable to intercept Robben’s cross.

  • Axel Witsel

    Axel Witsel

The versatile midfielder did a good job to protect his back-four with his tireless running. Showed some intelligent passing as well.

    Guillaume Gillet

Made a superb last ditch tackle early on to deny Robben, but did not have an easy game against the Bayern star. Beaten far too easily for the equaliser, while also losing sight of his direct opponent for the 2-1.

    Nacer Chadli

Should have set up Hazard halfway through the first half, but went for own glory instead. Came close to finding the net after the interval, but was denied by Stekelenburg.

  • Steven Defour

    Toby Alderweireld

Came off the bench at half-time and by no means impressed. Saw Belgium throw away a 1-0 lead within minutes of his entrance, and looked vulnerable.

Simply sensational. Single-handedly guided Belgium to victory with a goal and two assists during his brief substitute cameo.

  • Romelu Lukaku

    3.50

    Romelu Lukaku

His impressive physique caused the Oranje defence all kinds of trouble, and he was rewarded for his good display with a tap-in from close range.

  • Maarten Stekelenburg

    2.00

    Maarten Stekelenburg

Beaten from close range for the opener, but impressed after the interval with a string of fine saves. Denied Defour, Chadli, De Bruyne, Lukaku and Witsel in quick succession after the break. Then conceded three goals within five minutes, and won't be too pleased when he looks back at the 3-2.

  • John Heitinga

    2.50

    John Heitinga

The Everton defender was hardly tested during his 45 minutes on the pitch. Did a good job to keep Benteke quiet.

    2.50

    Joris Mathijsen

Excellent tackle to intercept Hazard’s low cross in first half, but beaten too easily by Benteke for the opener. Lost possession a number of times due to sloppy passing.

  • Jetro Willems

    4
    3.00

    Jetro Willems

Set up Robben with a fine through pass in the 6th minute, and always looked comfortable in possession. Made the occasional needless foul, but has every reason to be satisfied with his display.

    2
    3.00

    Ricardo van Rhijn

Came close to scoring on his debut in the 27th minute, but his placed shot was palmed away by Courtois. Never afraid to charge forward and was not troubled too much in defence until the 70th minute. Nevertheless, completely collapsed in the final 20 minutes of the game as he lost sight of Mertens several times.

  • Arjen Robben
    8
    4

    Arjen Robben

Caused Gillet all kinds of trouble with his dangerous runs, but was unlucky with his final pass before the break. Made up for it in the second half with two assists within two minutes.

Nigel De Jong Flop of the Match

Had to hold the fort all by himself as Van Gaal opted for just one holding midfielder, and had a difficult game. Cost his side in the second half as he lost possession inside his own half to gift Mertens the 2-2.

Booked in the first half for a foul on Courtois, but looked lively overall. Worked hard as he pressed high up on the pitch, and made some good runs off the ball.
