Both sides have been hit with suspensions for the final and Bayern Munich will be without the services of defenders Holger Badstuber and David Alaba and midfielder Luiz Gustavo.
Anatoliy Tymoschuk and Diego Contento are expected to come into the defence to replace the absent duo whilst Thomas Muller may take Gustavo’s place in midfield, with Toni Kroos playing a more withdrawn role.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are without John Terry after his red card against Barcelona, while Branislav Ivanovic and midfielders Ramires and Raul Meireles are also banned.
The Blues also have injury problems although both Gary Cahill and David Luiz are expected to be fit for the final, after hamstring problems, despite neither having featured since April.
Elsewhere John Obi Mikel is a doubt with a knee problem and Florent Malouda could miss out after picking up a hamstring problem against Blackburn Rovers last weekend.
| DID YOU KNOW? |
Bayern Munich have won the European Cup four times in their history and have also been runners-up four times, making them them (yes, you guessed it) the fourth most successful team in the history of the competition.
- Victory for Jupp Heynckes' side will see them equal Liverpool with five wins, with only Real Madrid (9) and AC Milan (7) having won the competition more times.
- Bayern have met English opposition in the final on three occasions but have won just once, against Leeds United in 1975 (losing to Manchester United in 1999 and Aston Villa in 1982).
- Coach Heynckes has tasted victory in the competition once before. He led Real Madrid to Champions League glory in 1998. Of course eight days later, he was sacked by the Spanish club.
- Bayern Munich have a superb record at home against English teams in Europe. In 16 games, Munich have lost just once, to Norwich City in the Uefa Cup back in 1993. The Canaries sealed an unlikely triumph with a superb volley by Jeremy Goss and a Mark Bowen goal in a 2-1 win.
- In the three previous finals played at the home ground of one of the finalists, the hosts have always won: Real Madrid in 1957, Inter in 1965 and Roma in 1984.
- This is only Chelsea’s second ever Champions League final. In their only previous attempt they lost on penalties to Manchester United in 2008.
- The Blues have only won once away from home in the competition all season, a 1-0 win away at Benfica in the quarter-finals, Salomon Kalou (pictured above) scoring the only goal.
- Chelsea have already lost away in Germany. The English side were beaten 2-1 at Bayer Leverkusen in November with Manuel Friedrich scoring a 90th minute winner for the hosts.
- The west Londoners have never won a penalty shoot-out in the Champions League. In two attempts they have lost to Manchester United, in 2008, and to Liverpool in 2007. Chelsea are 11/1 to win the Champions League on penalties with Paddy Power.
- The last time the two sides met in the competition, Chelsea prevailed 6-5 on aggregate in the quarter-finals in 2005 with Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard scoring home and away for the Blues.
- Having already won the FA Cup Chelsea are hoping for a cup double. Only one team has ever won the FA Cup and Champions League in one season, Manchester United in 1998-99.

Arjen Robben spent three successful years at Stamford Bridge, winning the league twice and an FA Cup during his stint in west London, and will surely relish taking on his former employees.
The Dutchman’s battle with Ashley Cole, should be one of the highlights of the evening, and with Chelsea looking set to field a far from first choice back four, he could be in for a profitable evening.

Didier Drogba will be hoping for redemption after his last Champions League final, which saw him sent off in Moscow in 2008 as the Blues lost to Manchester United.
The striker has scored some important goals this season, in the FA Cup final and against Barcelona in the semi-finals, and it would be little surprise if he struck again, in what could be his last appearance in a blue shirt.
The hosts are very much the favourites going into the game despite their 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Dortmund in the DFB Pokal final last weekend.
Both teams will be affected by suspensions, particularly defensively, which suggests goals may be on the agenda and home advantage must just prove to be the decisive factor.
