Player Ratings: Chelsea 4-0 Portsmouth

A late Ramires brace and Lampard goal flattered the hosts, with John Terry forced to clear off the line and Dave Kitson squandering a golden chance before Juan Mata's opener

Saw three efforts in the first half miss the target. His distribution was good, and the Czech stopper made a solid save from Futacs after a second-half scramble.

José Bosingwa

Wasn't called upon frequently in defence, but attacked well and put in some good crosses.

David Luiz

Showed fine footwork to get out of some tight spots in the opening half, but tried it again in the second and lost the ball to Kitson. The Brazilian got lucky, however, as Terry bailed him out with a goal-line clearance. Impressive otherwise.

John Terry

Good distribution, as ever, to the left side of the pitch. Dealt well with Futacs mostly, and won plenty of duels in the air. Made a brilliant and self-sacrificing block on the line as he collided with the post.

Ashley Cole

Was a constant threat on the left. Almost gave away a goal however, when he played a blind pass and let in Norris for a shot. Improved as the game progressed.

Scored two late goals that added a gloss to the scoreline, the second of which was a very well taken effort on the counter. Played well throughout.

Raúl Meireles

Kept the ball well and spread it nicely to his team-mates as they controlled possession, and looked lively going forward in the opening exchanges.

Frank Lampard

Was always looking for a path to goal, but found it blocked frequently. Had a free-kick go well over the bar in the first half, but finally found the back of the net in injury time.

Florent Malouda

Drew a couple of sighs from the home crowd early in the second half with a misplaced pass, but found his range soon after to produce Mata's opener. Looked dangerous when running with the ball, but lacking in creativity.

Juan Mata

3.5

Wasn't at his fluent best for the opening 45 minutes, but got himself into a good position to fire home the opening goal.

Fernando Torres

Had a good header saved in the opening stages, but didn't have much of an input as the match progressed. His team-mates were in scoring mood, and whilst he assisted Ramires for both his goals, the Spaniard will be disappointed not to make the score sheet himself.

Came on with the game won, and didn't really have a chance to get involved.

Oriol Romeu

Good cameo from the holding player, came on and prevented Portsmouth building attacks.

Romelu Lukaku

Late cameo, but a little too late to make a difference.

Good save to deny Fernando Torres' header early on. Wasn't forced into too many saves as chances came at a premium. Could do nothing about Mata's goal with the winger converting from close range, while Ramires' first was essentially a carbon copy. Was outdone by a good finish for the third and fourth.

Had an opportunity early on, but his header cleared the bar easily. Dealt well with Malouda in the first half, and cut out a vital pass. But didn't cover himself in glory for the opener, allowing Malouda past too easily. Switched to centre back after Rocha's departure.

Ricardo Rocha

Wasn't forced into too much defending in the first half with the midfield creating a solid barrier. Let Torres get away from him a bit too easily for his headed effort though. Departed early in the second-half due to injury.

Jason Pearce

Defended well and kept Torres very quiet in the second half. Could do nothing about the goal with Mata ghosting in from the right.

Joel Ward

Was unlucky to see his header cleared off the line, but played well as he closed down Cole and Malouda in the first half. Was switched to right-back and did well.

Greg Halford

Had a decent game at left-back, keeping Mata quiet for long periods.

David Norris

Almost opened the scoring for Pompey, but his shot went just wide. Some good closing down and nice passing when on the ball.

Hayden Mullins

Played solidly throughout the first half as he marshaled the midfield. Was sacrificed in the second half as Pompey went in search of an equaliser.

Liam Lawrence

Held the ball well for the visitors, and played some nice football when he got the chance. Should have crossed when looking for an equaliser, but blazed a shot high and wide.

Dave Kitson

Almost caught the hosts cold in the opening minute, but his shot rolled just past the post. Offered some good hold-up play as the most advanced forward, and also robbed Luiz for Pompey's best opening of the game.

Marko Futacs

Had Portsmouth's best opening when through against Cech, but elected for power over placement and made it fairly easy for the 'keeper. Dangerous, especially when the ball was in the air, and made some good flicks to bring team-mates into play.

Came on for the injured Ricardo Rocha and went into midfield, but was forced into more defending than he would have liked with Ashley Cole running in behind.
