Malky MacKay's Bluebirds seal place in League Cup final and day at Wembley after beating Dougie Freedman's resurgent 10-men on penalties with Tom Heaton saving two spot-kicks
By Ryan Benson
Wasn't troubled too often, but dealt well with whatever was thrown his way. Made two very good saves in penalty shoot-out.
Quiet night for the most part, but put in some decent tackles and a few good crosses.
Very commanding presence at the back for the Bluebirds and was even dangerous in attack. Had several shots and almost grabbed a goal as he beat Speroni to the ball from a deep free-kick.
Gave away a few free-kicks, but didn't look too uncomfortable with Palace's central attackers offering little. Did well to deny Easter with eight minutes of extra-time to play.
Good performance from the wide man. His set-piece delivery was particularly impressive and almost bagged a great goal, but his free-kick was clawed out of the top-corner by Speroni.
Looked dangerous in the first-half, firing in the cross that lead to the own-goal, but was extremely quiet after half time. Did little in the second-half, but should have scored in extra-time when he blasted over in the penalty area.
Tricky to deal with at times as he tried to twist and turn his way past Clyne and Co., but didn't have quite as much impact as he'd have liked.
Was very prominent until the last 25 minutes of the first 90. Until then most of Cardiff's play had gone through him, but after a small row with a frustrated Zaha, he became very quiet, despite hitting the bar in the final seconds of extra-time.
Got forward quite well and dealt with Zaha as well as he could have. The 19-year-old got the better of him on several occasions, but he didn't let that get to his head and stuck to his task. After a good performance, he was hauled off with 10 minutes to go after being booked.
Offered an extra number in attack and in the midfield, but had little impact on the play. Quiet mostly.
Very lively performance. Somehow failed to score in the first-half, forcing Speroni into a few saves and hitting the post with a brilliantly taken half-volley. Always a willing runner and never gave the Palace defenders a moment of peace. Proved not to be his night as he smashed his penalty over.
On for the booked, but impressive, Blake with 10 minutes left of the 90 minutes. Given a tough time by Zaha.
On late on in normal time and did well in extra-time as he set up Cowie for a good effort, but the midfielder blasted over. Went close himself as his half-volley 'kissed' the crossbar with 10 minutes until the end.
Came on just before half-time of extra-time and went close within seconds of coming on, hitting a deflected effort towards goal, but Speroni gathered. Did little else.
Questions over his positioning for the own-goal. He potentially could have took charge of the situation, but did pull off a number of decent saves, particularly a brilliant one from a Whittingham free-kick.
Wasn't given the opportunity to showcase his attacking prowess as he sat back for most of the match. Booked, but defended well enough.
Cleared well from the goal line as Gerrard went close in the second half. Given a tough time by Miller though and was eventually sent-off after two bookings, the second of which for a late tackle on the Scot.
Got into a bit of a mix up with his goalkeeper in the first half to give the hosts the lead. Similarly to McCarthy, often struggled with the movement of Miller, but generally defended well.
Delivery was good as always, but didn't offer too much in open play. Quiet night from the former Newcastle man.
South African international was caught in possession several times and looked vulnerable when on the ball, but was much better off it, acting as an effective supporter to his defence.
Nothing spectacular, but did produce some nice passing, particularly a few well-placed long-range passes.
Struggled with Cowie in the first half, but the Cardiff winger was incredibly quiet after the break ensuring Parr was in for an easier second 45. Missed the all important penalty as he smacked wide.
Always looked very dangerous when on the ball, with his dribbling a particular highlight. However, showed several moments of petulance and indiscipline, while he also became frustrated when things didn't go his way. Needs to work on his final ball, but it would be a shock if this lad doesn't do big things in his career.
Physical presence up front and a willing runner, but wasn't really given the chance to show what ability he has in front of the goal.
Flashes here and there, but the Norwich City-owned striker was quiet for much of the match and was eventually replaced by Shaun Scannell.
Came on for Martin with 10 minutes to go of normal time and almost made an immediate impact, attacking the Cardiff back line before threading through Zaha, but the 19-year-old finished poorly. Overall, a decent performance, making a good impact off the bench.
On in the 83rd minute, but didn't have much of an impact and had his penalty saved.
