Steven Fletcher the man of the match with an impressive brace, as Sebastian Larsson misses a great opportunity to put the game beyond the hosts before their comeback
By Sam Bisby at Molineux
Had a few comfortable touches in the first-half but was never truly tested in the opening 45 minutes. Was at fault in allowing Richardson’s opener in at the near post but denied Larsson's penalty effort with a great save and reacted quickly to initiate a counter attack which saw Wolves score.
A reasonable display from the man replacing Roger Johnson in the middle of the back-line. The defender made some good challenges, but was occasionally outmuscled by the hard-to-handle Sessegnon.
Made a great goal-line clearance after Sessegnon’s close-range effort at the end of the first-half to keep it scoreless at the break and carried his committed performance into the second half.
Did well to repel Bendtner and Dong, as well as making his fair share of challenges elsewhere including several desperate clearances out of the Wolves area.
The well-built full-back made good use of his strength throughout but also showed great nous with some well-timed challenges.
His energetic display allowed his team to keep the ball on the move but failed to capitalise on some decent chances.
Remained constantly busy on the left-flank and created a handful of chances for his side with his dangerous crosses.
A quiet first-half for the winger but woke up the second and did well to prove a constant danger to the Sunderland defence. Put in a great delivery for Fletcher’s first goal.
Looked energetic throughout, but failed to find the pass and opted to fire from distance on more than one occasion. Was lucky not to get caught out clearly handling during Fletcher’s second, but was in a good position to create the goal.
A sensational brace for a man who is fast becoming the cornerstone of the Wolves attack. His two well taken goals proved the difference in the end.
Not a particularly effective day for the forward but was unfortunate not to see many clear-cut chances come his way.
A composed substitute appearance from the defender.
Didn’t do too much after coming on late, but was part of the stubborn midfield that prevented Sunderland from pressing for their own equaliser.
Held the ball up well and kept the game in Wolves’ favour after coming on to add to the hosts’ attack.
Had a close encounter in the opening 15 minutes, as Fletcher’s header nearly caught out the young ‘keeper, but Simon Mignolet’s stand-in saved calmly on the line. Wasn’t threatened until the Wolves’ goals where he could possibly have done more to get a strong hand to Fletcher’s second effort at least.
Sometimes rushed his play out of the back and ooften didn’t know how to deal with O’Hara. Allowed the Matt Jarvis to run past him too many times in the second half.
Kept his cool during spells of pressure and made his fair share of hefty tackles to keep the Wolves attackers at bay but showed poor positional sense for both of Wolves' goals.
Struck his opener for Sunderland sweetly to take the punch out of Wolves’ slight dominance over the north east outfit. Made a terrific clearance just minutes later to deny Mick McCarthy's side an equaliser in all-round impressive display.
Was sometimes caught out by the movement of likes of Hunt and Doyle, but positioned himself well in recovery to keep keep them at bay. Could perhaps have done better to mark Fletcher during the Wolves goal.
Commanded his men well from the middle of the park, but didn’t seem to involve himself too much during the attacking phases of play. Made several good challenges.
Not a bad performance from the former Birmingham man who kept up his attacking and defensive duties well. Somewhat fortunate to win his team a penalty in the second-half and avoid a booking for a clear dive. Failed to make the most of his luck being denied by Hennessey’s good save.
The youngster looked energetic throughout, but didn’t get himself in the game enough with the play often concentrated down the wings.
An inspired performance from the attacker who seems to have finally settled in the Sunderland line-up. Played from the left-wing and cut inside to provide danger throughout to the Wolves defence. His ball to set up Richardson’s opener was inch perfect for the overlapping attacker.
Some good movement from the striker making his first start for the North-East outfit. Dong worked well with the ever advancing Sessegnon and almost created an opener for his side through the positive interplay between the duo and the Korean’s fluid movement. However, his passing at times could have been more efficient as he at time left team-mates a little short.
Rarely threatened Hennessey’s net and made a couple of bad decisions in shooting when there was a better pass on offer. The Dane never really got his chances and failed to offer much to his side.
Came on late and to little effect.
Failed to make the difference when brought on.
