Player Ratings: Egypt 0-2 Brazil
Goal.com rates the players on display in Doha, where two Jonas goals led the Selecao to a comfortable victory
By Daniel Edwards
Could do nothing for Brazil’s first goal, but should have held Fernandinho’s header for the second. Redeemed himself late with an excellent save from substitute Dudu.
The full-back struggled to contain Sandro and Hernanes down his right flank, and let far too much through to put pressure on his defensive companions.
The young centre-back faded as the encounter went on and gave Jonas too much space at times, but will be remembered for his excellent goal-line intervention which led to a heavy collision with the post.
Too often caught out of position when Brazil started to push forward, and struggled to contain the dynamic Hulk.
Making his debut for the Pharaohs, Nasef did well to shackle the threat from Alves on the left hand side, although as the game progressed his positional play was at times questionable.
The former Tottenham man battled hard in the middle, but when Egypt went down needed to show more as a creator and not just in the breaking up of Brazilian efforts.
Another game competitor in the middle of the pitch, although was far more impressive on the back foot than when venturing further up the field
The biggest threat to the Brazil defence. Impressed with his movement and skill on the ball, and went as close as anyone to finding the net with a well-struck free kick in the opening minutes of the encounter.
The Sunderland midfielder never stopped running in his efforts to stop Brazil in their tracks, although when the game required a more attacking focus he was sometimes guilty of squandering chances in the final third.
Very quiet game from the playmaker, although he was not aided by the paltry amount of possession that came his way in a defensive Egypt performance
Barely had a shot on goal as he was well-marshalled by the Selecao backline, ultimately sacrificed following the second goal of the evening.
Only given five minutes at the end.
Came on at half-time for Zidan, but could not break down the Brazil defence.
A second-half sub for Ghaly, but did not impose himself on the game.
Came on for a landmark appearance, but had little impact.
A late sub.
Had few chances to break Egypt's duck after entering for Moteab.
An accomplished performance from the keeper, not troubled overly by Egypt but made a couple of good stops to ensure a second consecutive clean sheet.
Struggled early on with Egypt’s incessant marking and was pinned back, but slowly imposed himself more down the right-hand side.
Never tested, but a solid display from the Milan man who was honoured with the captaincy in Doha.
Was cultured and tidy alongside Silva in defence, never put a foot wrong and distributed well.
Keen to get forward down the left, and made a couple of decent forays down into opposition territory as the Under-20 World Cup winner continues to strengthen his claim for a senior place.
Toiled in the centre as the Africans gave no quarter, and did not manage to fully assert his dominance on the game until just before half-time. Passed well and gave little away.
Rose well to connect with Cesar’s set-piece in the build-up to the second, and generally played a decent, if unspectacular, match before being withdrawn in favour of Elias.
The most adventurous of Brazil’s midfield quartet, showed good skill on the ball with some excellent dribbles. Squandered a golden chance to make it three.
Always a danger from the dead ball, it was his free kick which led to Jonas’ second goal. Needed more precision in front of goal on a couple of occasions.
Strength, pace, precision: the Porto striker showed off every part of his game in an excellent display. Set up the opener for Jonas, and was desperately unlikely not to find the net himself.
Spent a large portion of the game almost as a spectator, but there is no doubting his poaching instincts. Found himself in the right place at the right time twice to score both Brazil’s efforts.
Came on for Bruno Cesar in the final minutes.
Given little time to make an impact.
A late replacement for Hulk, almost netted a third.
Given a run-out in the final minutes as Jonas' replacement.
