Chris Hughton's men could have had the game wrapped up in the opening 15 minutes, but were left to rue missed chances following a cruel deflection off Curtis Davies
By Ross Jackson
Started brightly, saving Nikola Zigic's poor spot kick. Got down well to prevent David Murphy's fine free-kick. Other than that, wasn't really tested.
Given a torrid time by Chris Burke, lucky not to be sent off within the opening 15 minutes following two rash challenges on the winger. Never got to grips with the game.
A solid defensive display, aided by the ineffective Zigic. Coped well with some devilish set pieces from Chris Burke.
Did the necessary but was never really troubled by the ineffective Beausejour, substituted just past the hour mark.
Was kept quiet for much of the game by the impressive David Murphy. When he did wriggle free of the left-back, his delivery was poor
Tried to take hold of the game but was ultimately reduced to harmless long distance efforts. Goal came via a similarly speculative shot which took a wicked deflection off Curtis Davies.
Rarely ventured forward, but did the necessary in his own half and worked hard.
Showed a willingness to get on the ball but didn't really do much with it. Failed to deliver the service the strikers needed.
The captain's influence began to grow throughout the game, following a forgettable first 45. Really should have put the game to bed with ten minutes to go, blazing over from 10 yards. A good display.
Became increasingly frustrated at the lack of service, found himself coming deep to join in with the play. Never got the service. Substituted just past the hour mark.
Showed some good touches but never got the service he needed. His only chance came via a breakaway, yet he contrived to fire his shot straight at Boaz Myhill, when through on goal.
Brought on to solidify the Braga defence and kept Marlon King quiet.
The former Arsenal man never really got a foothold in the game after coming on from the bench.
Not given much service in his 20 minutes on the field, hassled the Birmingham defence but nothing more.
Barely had a touch in the first half thanks to a terrific defensive display from the Birmingham back line. Left helpless for the Braga opener.
Likely to be credited with an own goal following a cruel deflection from a Hugo Viana effort. Other than that, a fantastic defensive display.
A solid defensive display, got forward when possible and produced some wicked set pieces. Unlucky not to open the scoring with a good free-kick.
Went about his job quietly but effectively, a little out of his depth in the final third, wasting some good opportunities when there were options available, but a solid performance,
Nothing spectacular but did what was necessary, a solid defensive display
Should have given his side an early lead but fluffed his lines in front of goal. However, the miss doesn't tarnish what was a fine performance.
Made a flying start to the game, winning a penalty within the first ten minutes. Gave Ewerton, the Braga left back, nightmares all game. Always an out ball for the team, really didn't deserve to be on the losing side.
A passenger for much of the game, totally overshadowed by teammate Chris Burke. A poor performance which ultimately saw him replaced just past the hour mark.
Began to influence the game a little as the game went on, but never really troubled the Braga defence.
Much of the game was played in the wide areas, so failed to really get a foothold in the game. Substituted just past the hour mark.
Missed a glorious opportunity early on, failing to convert from the penalty spot. Showed glimpses of his potential but ultimately produced nothing. Final ball often let him down, substituted with 15 minutes to go.
Similarly to his fellow substitutes, wasn't given the service to effect the game.
The 17-year-old looked lively upon his arrival yet never really got a hold of the ball.
His goalscoring record has gone before him this season, yet never came close to adding to his tally.
