Player Ratings: Stoke City 1-1 Dynamo Kiev

Unfortunate with a deflection as Aliev opened the scoring, especially after somehow getting a leg to it himself. A stoppage time save from Yarmolenko was vital in seeing his side through to the next round.

Didn't get close enough to Aliyev as the visitors took the lead. Improved in the second period as the midfield began to get to grips with their Ukrainian opposition and therefore aided the defence.

Yellow carded for a very high foot in the second half which means he will miss the important trip to Istanbul. Otherwise he had an average game but was not to blame for the goal conceded.

Very unfortunate to deflect home the goal that broke the deadlock for Dynamo, as he attempted to block Aliev's shot. Otherwise he wasn't troubled particularly frequently as his side grew into the game.

Took some of the work off Rory Delap's shoulders by providing the long throws from one flank that caused the usual problems with Stoke's physicality. Very quiet with the ball though.

Struggled to deal with Dynamo's midfield as they completely controlled the first 60 minutes and then was withdrawn for Ricardo Fuller.

Very quiet opening period and when he got space out wide he failed to provide deliveries of any quality on several occasions. He finally showed his undoubted class though as he produced a superb cross for the equaliser.

Took a blow to the head in the first half which left him bandaged for the rest of the game. His long throws were 45 minutes where he was out of position and ineffective on the left of midfield.

Conceded possession for the first goal scored by the Ukrainians and failed to deal with the movement of their midfield. Better in the second half but spurned one of the hosts' best chances from close range.

Largely anonymous but popped up between the two central defenders to head home expertly. Replaced by Jon Walters on 84 minutes.

As always, a willing runner. Unfortunately he was up against some impressive defenders in Kacheridi and Yussuf who subdued him until he was shifted out to the left wing with the introduction of Fuller.

Very little to do in the first half but claimed some tough aerial balls in the second as Stoke came more into the game.

Comfortable in possession and defensively untroubled as he didn't find himself up against a dynamic winger in Delap first, and then Cameron Jerome.

His pace allowed him to compensate for a couple of instances when Stoke got in behind him on the left channel and he did well up against a talented foe in the shape of Jermaine Pennant.

Dealt well with the physical threat of Kenwyne Jones whilst also untroubled by Cameron Jerome's pace. Superb positioning allowed him to block a certain goal on the line when Pennant let off a rasping drive.

Anchored the midfield quietly and effectively, allowing his more expressive colleagues to take charge of the game. His deep-lying role allowed the full-backs to make more incisive bursts forward.

Confident in possession and ran the midfield in the first period, his strike was deflected home by Upson but after half-time Pulis' men got to grips with him a little better an restricted his influence.

Operated largely on the right but drifted centrally to compliment the excellent Aliyev. His experience of international and Champions League football was evident although he nearly gave away a goal as his sloppy backpass played in Ricardo Fuller.

Alongside the terrific Kacheridi, the Nigerian was assured but didn't spot Kenwyne Jones as the Trinidad and Tobago striker ghosted in to grab the equaliser.

Spurned an excellent chance to make it 2-0 in the first half but found space very effectively. His flick began the move that led to the Upson own goal and he still contributes to this team even though he has lost a lot of the acceleration which made him so effective in years gone by.

Roamed dangerously from his wide left berth to cause plenty of problems for the Potters. Both quick and tall, his impressive athleticism was matched by his intelligent play and link up with his more experienced team-mates.

Drifting into channels to enormous effect in the first half, he created spaces for Shevchenko and others to run into. The Nigerian became less influential as his midfield was more stifled after the break.
