Radiated confidence, communicated well with his defence and presented a formidable barrier whenever Dortmund had a sniff of goal without making an oustanding save.
Showed his strength of character by producing a much-improved display after his howler against Norwich. His anticipation got him out of a few tight spots.
Stuck to his task well against the lively Grosskreutz and made some important challenges. Offered little going forward but did not look out of place in his second consecutive game at right-back. Subbed late on.
Superb display in a busy game for the defence. Excellent in the air and on the ground. His colleagues fed off his confidence and authority. Even teed up van Persie's second with a neat flick-on from a corner.
The odd tasty pass but struggled to get in the game at times and provide a consistent link between the midfield and attack.
No kamikaze defending and few gambols down the left flank by the Brazilian. Settled for solid defence, which he did rather well.
Outstanding display. Not only protected the back four superbly with a string of timely interceptions but set up van Persie's goal with a sensational dribble past three Dortmund players followed by a perfect cross.
The good, the bad and the ugly from the Ivorian. Tricked his way into some excellent positions but his end product was often poor. Added to his growing list of wasted opportunities with an unconvincing second-half one-on-one.
R. van Persie
Widened his scoring repertoire with an excellent header and a poacher's strike as he extended his wondrous run to 12 goals in eight games and 35 in all competitions in 2011. The relief when he carried on after limping for a short period in the second half was audible.
Menacing display. Was Arsenal's only ray of light in the first half as he once again demonstrated his improved crossing from the right flank.
Showed great anticipation twice in the first half to stop Walcott in his tracks and then cut out a superb Walcott cross that was headed for van Persie. However, his positioning looked awry for van Persie's second goal.
Provided excellent support down the right flank and came close to setting up a goal on a few occasions. Handled Gervinho well.
Got scorched by Walcott's pace in between some solid defending.
The midfielder was stretchered off after suffering a sickening kick to the face from Vermaelen midway through the first half.
Excellent in the first half but undone by Arsenal's greater tempo in the second half.
The centre-half's distribution was hit-and-miss but read the game well until a few brain farts in the last quarter of the match.
Lively display by the energetic support striker. HIs pace got him into some excellent positions but wasted a brilliant second-half chance to put his team 1-0 up. Managed to pull one back for his team in injury time.
The darling of the Bundesliga limped off half-an-hour in after failing to shake off an early knock. Gave Arsenal fans only a small glimpse of his potential.
Offered his usual dynamism on the left flank only in patches. Did not run at Koscielny as often as might have been expected.
Built a number of Dortmund attacks with his wide passing range but looked vulnerable when Arsenal's midfielders ran beyond him.
Poland's great hope was bright and lively early on but faded as Arsenal took a grip of the match in the second half. Teed up Kagawa for a late consolation.
- 21 Ł. Fabiański
Replaced Koscielny at right-back for the last six minutes.
Booked for a badly-timed tackle but had some nice touches in a lively cameo.
Got a big hand when he made his comeback from injury in the dying minutes.
