Goals from David Silva and Yaya Toure secure win but it's not enough for the Premier League leaders to progress to the last 16 of the Champions League
By Greg Stobart at Etihad Stadium
Sharp stops to keep out near-post efforts from Olic and Gustavo but was never really tested. Solid handling and good, quick distribution.
The City captain led by example on a generally comfortable afternoon at the back for the Premier League leaders. Pace and reading of the game meant he was rarely troubled by the German visitors.
Untroubled for most of the night and showed good anticipation when needed. Threat from set pieces but rightly punished for fouling Butt as Silva had a goal disallowed.
The Serbian was a surprise selection at right-back but produced a solid defensive display against Olic. Not particularly ambitious in attack but comfortable on the ball.
Coped well with Alaba's trickery and was defensively solid at left-back.
Tidied up nicely in at the base of the City midfield and his passing was progressive, not least with the pass that led to Silva's opener.
The Frenchman demonstrated his intelligence as he drifted across the midfield and produced some dangerous final balls including a cross that Aguero could only head over the bar.
Provided a moment of quality to break the deadlock when he smashed home from the edge of the box in the 36th minute. Always looked like the man to unlock the Bayern defence with his waspish runs and incisive passing. Could have scored more as he forced Butt into action after gliding past defenders.
Sealed the victory with a typically powerful run and composed finish through the goalkeeper's legs seven minutes after the break. Superb athleticism and linked up attacking moves nicely.
The big Bosnian striker can claim two assists after his clever flick for Silva and a classy pass for Toure to score. Offered a strong target with his back to goal and created room for Aguero when he dropped deep.
Along with Silva, the Argentine was City's biggest threat. Excellent movement caused Bayern problems and got in good goalscoring positions. Thought he had scored after wonderful run and shot, but saw his effort cleared off the line by Boateng.
Came on for Silva in the 84th minute.
Replaced Dzeko in the 77th minute as the hosts protected their two-goal lead.
Given a huge cheer when he replaced Toure nine minutes from time but saw little of the ball with the result already decided.
Handed a rare start and made some sharp saves when called upon, although he looked shaky under aerial balls. Could do nothing about either City goal.
Beaten too easily by Silva on a couple of occasions in the first half. Showed drive on the counter-attack but defensively suspect.
Booed by the home crowd on his return to his former club, but produced a decent performance. The Germany defender made some strong challenges and cleared an Aguero shot off the line.
Started slowly as he failed to put enough pressure on City players but improved as the game went on.
Strong in the air but looked slow and ponderous on the turn against City's fleet-footed forwards, particularly Aguero.
Produced glimpses of the quality of his left foot but failed to find any killer passes and was well handled by the City defence. Scuffed an effort wide from long-range in the second-half.
The much-hyped youngster showed touches of class but was on the periphery of the game. Had half a sight on goal but poked the ball over the bar from close range after a quick counter-attack.
Looked a tricky customer and confident on the ball when he got a chance to run at defenders. Took the opportunity to shoot from long distance.
The Ukrainian worked hard to close down the City midfielders without having a major impact on the game.
Cumbersome and ineffective as the leader of Bayern's frontline and never threatened before being replaced by Usami in the 81st minute.
Bayern's standout player in the first half as he worked tirelessly on the left side, both in attack and defence. Forced Hart into a diving save with a powerful shot from the edge of the box in the first-half.
Looked physically weak after replacing Petersen in the 81st minute.
