Cesc Fabregas netted his first goal for Barcelona as the Spanish giants clinched the Joan Gamper trophy against competitions debutants Napoli at the Camp Nou in a 5-0 win on Monday evening.

A move typical of Barcelona ended with Fabregas directing the ball into an open goal, after Andres Iniesta’s ball found Adriano who slid the ball into the grateful Fabregas, who had missed a simple chance moments earlier, to tap home.

Barcelona doubled their lead in emphatic fashion when Iniesta chipped the ball over the Napoli defence for Seydou Kieta, who had started the move before bursting into the penalty area to double Barcelona’s lead.

Lionel Messi came close with a free-kick, which was expertly tipped onto the bar by Morgan de Sanctis only for the ‘keeper to helplessly watch as Pedro nodded in the rebound. Messi soon after extended Barca’s lead after one-touch football lead to Pedro finding the Argentine four yards out, and Messi had his second with a well-taken finish.

A stunning overhead kick from Edinson Cavani had the travelling Italian support in raptors before Barcelona opened the scoring, only for the Uruguayans effort to be ruled out for offside.

David Villa had two gilt-edged chances to further Barca’s lead before the half-time whistle but he was denied, first, by de Sanctis’ heroics before his goal bound effort was cleared off the line.

Barcelona rattled the woodwork three times within five minutes of the restart when Pedro reacted quickest to Thiago’s shot which had cannoned back off the post only to see his effort hit the crossbar, after Pedro had curled a beautiful shot  against the bar moments earlier.
