  Despite being beaten on one or two occasions, the Brazilian left-back stood up reasonably well to the threat of Chilean Alexis Sanchez and never really let him get in behind to hurt his side.

  Veteran defender was anonymous, largely because Barcelona rarely threatened in an attacking sense in the first half. Made one sterling tackle to dispossess Messi in second half while sending Ozil away down the left with a visionary pass.

  Was rather unfortunate in that his slip allowed Messi to ghost in and slot home to put his side ahead seconds before the half-time whistle. Grew increasingly wreckless as the game went on and was perhaps lucky not to be receive further punishment for some of his tackles or be exposed on some of his forways forward. Did, however, lay on Xabi Alonso's goal.

  On the one occasion that David Villa managed to escape his clutches, the Barcelona No. 7 curled a sublime shot into the top corner to restore parity. Had been a rock at right-back prior to this.

  Kept things moving quickly in the first half, proving to be something of a catalyst for his side's high tempo style and scored to make it 2-2 with a well placed finish. Also helped Khedira break up play, which on the occasion required him to be a little cute with some of his fouls.

  Got through a power of work in front of the Real Madrid defence. It was his boundless energy and intense pressing that ensured the Barcelona midfield could not settle into their usual passing rhythm.

  Opened the scoring with a cute finish in 13 minutes following great work by Benzema and put a fantastic cross right on Benzema's head in the second half from which he should have scored. Always a threat and at the heart of most of his side's best work.

  Frenchman has lost weight but has rediscovered his apetite for the game. Created the first goal with direct running style and caused Abidal all sorts of problems throughout. Will be disappointed not to have scored though.

  Continued in central defence, where he filled in towards the end of last season - most notably in the Champions League final. Made one fantastic sliding tackle to block from Benzema in the 43rd minute and was reasonably solid for a player playing out of position.
