Bolton Wanderers continued with their preparations for the new season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Hereford United - who used the game as a testimonial match for manager Jamie Pitman.

Bolton dominated from start to finish as the lower league opposition failed to cope with Owen Coyle’s men, with Kevin Davies and new-boy Chris Eagles impressing.

Coyle named a very strong side with first-team regulars Gary Cahill, Fabrice Muamba and Kevin Davies all starting alongside new signings Eagles and Nigel Reo-Coker.

The Trotters started well and had an early penalty shout turned down as Mark Davies was bundled to the ground.

Minutes later they were in front, Mark Davies stood over a free-kick before rolling the ball to the side where ex-Burnley man Eagles ran up and smashed the ball from 30 yards past keeper Adam Bartlett.

Hereford managed to weather the early storm and could have been level as Joe Colbeck crossed for Stuart Fleetwood who headed right across the face of the goal and narrowly wide.

Another new face, Darren Pratley was introduced after half-time replacing the solid Reo-Coker. Martin Petrov almost added a second but defender Kenny Lunt brilliantly cleared off the line.

Bolton eventually scored a second as Pratley was played down the left by Paul Robinson and the midfielder curled the ball into the far corner of the net.

A minute later front man Davies flicked the ball over the onrushing keeper from just inside the box to make it 3-0 and wrap up the win for the Premier League side.

Hereford fans did, however, find something to cheer about as manager Pitman came on to play the final 15 minutes.
