Australia have moved a step closer to the fourth round of 2014 World Cup qualifiers after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Paul Le Guen's Oman in Sydney on Tuesday.

Brett Holman struck early before second-half strikes from the in-form Joshua Kennedy and Mile Jedinak sealed the win which moves the Socceroos to nine points from three games, while Oman remain without a point.

Holman got Australia off to a flying start in the seventh minute when he tapped home from close range after Matt McKay's low cutback, following a Rhys Williams' diagonal ball which caused chaos in the Oman box.

The Socceroos were firmly in control for the entirety of the first-half dominating possession with Oman offering little the other, while Holman and McKay both had efforts go over the bar before the break.

AZ Alkmaar man Holman curled an effort wide on 61 minutes, before Kennedy doubled Australia's advantage on 65 minutes.

Holman swooped on a defensive error in the Oman back line before crossing for Luke Wilkshire who was denied by Ali Al Habsi with Kennedy pouncing on the loose ball to smash home from close range.

Ahmed Mubarak tested Socceroos keeper Adam Federici with a curling free-kick on 68 minutes, although that was all the Reading man was required to do.

Australia made it 3-0 on 85 minutes when Mile Jedinak poked home from Wilkshire's free-kick to seal an easy victory which was never in doubt.
