Antonio Mirante Flop of the Match

The 28-year-old goalkeeper's blushes were spared when his poor attempt to save Totti's long-range effort flicked up onto the post, but he did well to quickly recover and block from Osvaldo. Could not get across to stop Osvaldo's headed goal.

  • Alessandro Lucarelli

    Alessandro Lucarelli

The imposing No.6 headed narrowly over the crossbar in the 11th minute and was a steadying presence at the back over the course of the 90 minutes.

  • Gabriel Paletta

    Gabriel Paletta

The Argentine central defender allowed Osvaldo to find space between himself and Zaccardo to head home what turned out to be the winning goal. Was otherwise competent.

  • Massimo Gobbi

    Massimo Gobbi

The left-back is equally adept in either defence or midfield, so it was rather disappointing to see him curb his attacking exploits, particularly when he demonstrated how effective he could have been with some late forays forward.

  • Cristian Zaccardo

    Cristian Zaccardo

Although a right full-back, he tucked in so tight that he almost looked like a third centre-back. However, he did not utilise his position to great effect, giving Osvaldo plenty of space from which to head home. Was also booked in what was an unconvincing display.

  • Francesco Modesto

    Francesco Modesto

Played on the left of the Parma midfield four and offered very little in an attacking sense. Whipped over only one telling cross which Biabiany headed weakly into the ground and then Lobont's arms.

  • Daniele Galloppa

    2.50

    Daniele Galloppa

Made a very bright start, picking holes in the Roma defence with some visionary passes, but faded and was eventually replaced on the hour, much to his dissatisfaction.

  • Stefano Morrone

    Stefano Morrone

The Parma captain looked as if he would have a big say in proceedings after a powerful opening 20 minutes or so, but like Galloppa beside him his influence waned.

  • Jonathan Biabiany

    Jonathan Biabiany

The Sampdoria loanee had a poor evening. He caused problems with his pace, but time and again failed to find the quality needed with his final ball. Toe-poked a glorious chance to equalise wide in the 72nd minute.

  • Sergio Floccari

    Sergio Floccari

Played as a lone striker. Offered his usual 100 per cent but saw little of the ball and offered minimal attacking threat.

  • Sebastian Giovinco

    3.00

    Sebastian Giovinco

Has earned praise from Juventus coach Antonio Conte after his early-season performances, and showed flashes of ability over the course of the 90 minutes. Caused problems with his set-pieces and tested Lobont with a curling effort.

Replaced Galloppa on the hour mark and tested Lobont with a fierce drive.

    Zé Eduardo

He was the man to take Crespo's place, but offered little besides one poor pass in the closing stages, thereby ending a promising attack.

  • Hernán Crespo

    Hernán Crespo

One of those rare occasions on which a substitute was substituted. He spent just 17 minutes on the field, in which time he caused a little trouble with a flick on from a corner.

  • Bogdan Lobonţ

    Bogdan Lobonţ

The Romanian goalkeeper continued between the sticks in Maarten Stekelenburg's injury-enforced absence. He was rarely tested making two straightforward saves to deny Giovinco and Jadid.

  • Gabriel Heinze

Gabriel Heinze Top of the Match

The versatile former Manchester United and Marseille defender partnered Kjaer in the centre of defence, and despite being outpaced by Biabiany at one point made at least three crucial interventions in a nervy final few minutes for his side.

  • José Ángel

    José Ángel

The left full-back tried to get forward down his side, but offered little in terms of an attacking threat, particularly in comparison with recent performances.

  • Simon Kjaer

    Simon Kjaer

After a mixed performance against Siena in midweek, the Dane was withdrawn at half-time for his own good. Following a 35th minute booking for a foul on Modesto, he was lucky not to see a red for a tackle on Biabiany shortly afterwards.

  • Aleandro Rosi

    Aleandro Rosi

Restored to the starting line-up, where he played at right-back, after finding himself on the bench in midweek. Suffering what looked like a match-ending injury, he then returned to the pitch and immediately sent over the cross from which Osvaldo scored.

  • Daniele De Rossi

    Daniele De Rossi

The long-serving midfielder continued in the position right in front of the central defenders, from where he looked to dictate play. He also made two important covering tackles and showed incredible vision with some of his long-range passing.

  • Miralem Pjanic

    Miralem Pjanic

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international was tidy in everything he did, but floated on the periphery of the match somewhat.

  • Simone Perrotta

    Simone Perrotta

After a less than impressive outing at right-back against Siena, the England-born Italy international was moved back into a midfield role, where he added his trademark energy and drive.

  • Pablo Daniel Osvaldo

    Pablo Daniel Osvaldo

Scored his side's only goal against Siena in midweek with a tap in, and made it two in two when he netted with a superbly executed header in the 50th minute. A crucial contribution. He also went close with an angled drive which slipped narrowly wide.

  • Francesco Totti

    Francesco Totti

'Er Purpone' grew in influence as the game went on, and particularly in the moments following his side taking the lead. Went close with a long-range effort which Mirante tipped onto the post and another drive which flashed wide.

  • Fabio Borini

    Fabio Borini

Won a place in the starting XI after making an impact from the bench against Siena. His determination eventually lead to his side's winning goal, and while he wasn't a potent attacking threat he did cause problems with his constant running.

Substitutions

    Nicolas Burdisso

The Argentine defender took to the field for the second half, replacing Kjaer, who was walking a tightrope after picking up a booking, and was resolute in the face of late pressure.

  • Fabio Henrique Simplicio

    Fabio Henrique Simplicio

Kept things simple in his 17 minutes on the pitch, making one absolutely crucial block in the 93rd minute.

    Bojan Krkic

The expensive summer signing from Barcelona was a lively presence after taking Borini's place.
