An early goal from Fabio Quagliarella handed Juventus a 1-0 win over Chivas de Guadalajara on Thursday night in the World Football Challenge at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Mexican international Jonny Magallon appeared to have dealt with a long ball over the top in the 12th minute, but he slipped when attempting to prevent a chance for Juve, and could only look on as Quagliarella capitalised to open the scoring.

A similarly flat ball over the top a few of minutes later also caused difficulty for Chivas' Luis Ernesto Michel, who had to rush off his line, and blocked Pepe's shot from close range.

Chivas' best chance came just before half-time, when Miguel Angel Ponce unleashed a strike from outside the area after a corner had been worked to him, but Marco Storari deflected the ball up and over the crossbar.

In the second half, long-distance shots provided most of the opportunities for Chivas, with the best coming from a free kick which Jorge Mora fired off the upright, but Juve managed to hold on and see out the victory.
