Norwich City could only manage a goalless friendly draw against League Two side Southend United at Roots Hall, despite debutant Kyle Naughton catching the eye.

Naughton, on loan from Tottenham, was called into action on 11 minutes, blocking midfielder Anthony Grant's low shot - which resulted in a corner.

The full-back got involved more in the attacking side of things once the newly promoted Premier League side had grasped control of the game and his pass set away Elliott Bennett, whose cross was well held by Glenn Morris.

Canaries midfielder Wes Hoolahan went close three times in the first half, capitalising on a defensive error which Morris did well to get a touch on, he then had a shot blocked whilst his last effort was pushed away by the goalkeeper for a corner.

In between those chances, Southend should have took the lead but defender Bilel Mohsni's turn and powerful shot whistled past the post.

Morris put in a brilliant performance and saved well from a Surman drive and Chris Martin free-kick in the second-half.

Just on the hour mark, Mohsni had another great chance to snatch victory but his header came crashing back off the post, as the final whistle was then blown.
